Vote For Me

Have you ever wondered what being a president was like? Well, I think that it is a big responsibility. Hi my name is Harper and I am a gymnast and over those years of gymnastics I came to the point where I know how to keep my schedule going with all my gymnastics. I take many responsibilities seriously. If you want a president that would be able to take those responsibilities fairly and kindly, then vote for me! There are many responsibilities and I am going to tell you how I will take those responsibilities seriously.

Something that I am going to try and change about Heathcote is how much homework we get and what we need. I think that I should change this because kids have six hours of learning in school and with homework is just like doing seven or eight hours of school. Plus some people have sports that go to three hours. I think that we should still get homework but lower the amount of time that we have to read. So if that were to happen people would have more time to relax after school.

Another thing that I would like to change is about how much time we have outside. I would change this because if we don’t go out for a while we might get bored and that might be the reason that some people talk during lessons. So maybe we should still have recess and morning break, but maybe during the day we should earn recess time for the end of the day.

Being a president is hard, so that is why you should vote for me because some people might not have as much responsibility as I do. Changing how much homework we have to how much time we have outside might change the students’ perspectives about school. So if you were elected to be president what would you do for your school?

Board of Legislators Reflection

Did you know that there had to be an uneven number with Legislators? There are 17 legislators for a reason, an uneven number so that there isn’t a tie. We learned this in the room with the mics. While on the Board of Legislators Trip we got to do so many fun things. Like meeting the Legislator and got to be in a cool meeting!

My three favorite parts of the trip were when we got to have mints, when we got to speak in the mic, and when we got to hit the gavel at the end. These were my favorite parts because, when we ate the mints I was so hungry because I didn’t have a big breakfast and also we didn’t have snack. I also liked the mics because we got to speak in big mics and we got to share our opinions. I liked the gavel because when we hit it I felt like a boss. One time when I was watching TV, I saw the news and someone was at court and they hit the gavel to end the conversation. I thought wow! You must need to work hard to hit the gavel! Well turns out, I got to hit it on the trip! Those parts were really fun.

There were so many things that I learned! But something really interesting I learned was how they did the meetings about the laws. I thought it was interesting because we got to sit in the spinning meeting chairs and got to be serious. It was fun because we got to talk about whether private and public schools should wear uniforms. I learned about the chair men/women was the lead of each meeting that they had. We also got to know cool facts. Like, how many people live in Scarsdale. I found out that there are about 20 thousand people that live in Scarsdale! Way more than I thought! The chair men/women had their meetings in the meeting room, where we got the mints and had a fake fun meeting!

I was so happy that I went on this trip, we learned so many new things. We also did so many fun things. I told you all of my favorite parts and how I learned so much on this trip to the Board of Legislators. I think this trip is going to be one of my favorite trips yet.

That First Day Feeling

I thought that 5th grade was going to be hard and boring, turns out I was wrong, 5th grade is so much fun! I will tell you what activities I am excited for and what I have done so far.

The past week of 5th grade has been really fun! I really liked when we did our identity maps, I liked doing this because I liked to color in and draw all the details of my life. For instance, I put my favorite hobbies, gymnastics, dancing, and acting. Once during gymnastics, me and my team all got to state competition because our team won first place in an earlier competition. The judges were hard and easy on events, states is hard to place at, that’s why I was surprised when I got a 9.900 out of 10 on bars and placed first! Some people on my team didn’t even place and I still got 1st. I was so happy and relieved that I actually got the gold. At the end of the competition my dad bought me a cool tie-dye sweatshirt that said, STATES COMPETITION on it. I was so happy and proud of myself. I can’t wait for next year’s states if we make it!

Something that I am looking forward to now is definitely the halloween party, and field day. I am excited for these things because I am excited to show everyone in school my costume on halloween, and for field day I am excited to play a lot of games on the field. One time on Halloween last year I was Taylor Swift with my other friends and other people loved our costumes so much, that we got so many compliments. During that time I thought that we looked like the newest band in town with our Taylor costumes. So I barely believed them.

Overall, so far the first week of school has been very fun and enjoyable. I love 5th grade so far and I can’t wait for the rest of the year. How was your first week of school? What did you do? I hope you have fun in school!

Passion Project

I did my Passion Project on Gymnastics because I am a gymnast and I train really hard to be better, I am on Bronze in gymnastics and my best event is bars because I won first on bars at States with a 9.900. I did a slideshow because I thought that the slideshow would be easier by having more room to put the pictures. I was really interested in learning about my topic because I didn’t really need to research my topic because I already knew a lot about how to do these tricks. Some advice for the future students in 4th graders is to do something that you already know a lot about.

AmRev Post 3

I feel happy that the project is done and I am proud of what I did. I researched hard and I was happy to share what I researched. I enjoyed recording myself even though I had difficulty with the timing, I thought that it was just fun to read lines. The most challenging thing was having to listen to my voice when presenting because I didn’t like how I was listening to my voice. Some advice to the future 4th graders is to try to get help with the recording if you can’t get the timing right or if any other difficulty with the recording.

Middle Colonies Reflection

The process of the project took a while to complete and it was hard but entertaining. I chose to pick the Middle Colonies because I thought that it would be most interesting and fun to learn about, and it was! I took down notes by using my notebook because I thought it would be the most easiest. I chose to do the project on Canva because I felt like it was going to be interesting being able to use the Canva effects.
The research process of the project was difficult finding the information and resources but it was fun and I really liked it. The resources I used were Epic and books because I found a lot of information from these resources. It was really challenging to find the information because I needed to look at a lot of books to find the right information.
The final project turned out to be an interesting infographic with a lot of Colonial facts. I picked an infographic because I knew that I was able to add a lot of information and use Colonial photos. I faced a lot of challenges such as not using the right book for information or not being able to understand an important part.
The thing I enjoyed the most probably taking notes or typing it on Canva. The most challenging part of the project was searching in books or on Epic. If I could go back I would have done full sentences not information with bullet points, but I like how the project turned out anyway.

Gymnastics

What people need to know is that being on a gymnastics team is challenging because you have to really be confident in yourself, and most of all because you get stressed about your scores.

One reason that being on a gymnastics team is challenging is that when you make a mistake you get upset. For example, I messed up on my needle on beam, and I only have about 1-2 weeks until my first competition ever!!! I have experienced being scared for a certain reason because I was scared I was going to fall off of the beam. You would probably be pretty nervous too.

Another reason that being on a gymnastics team is challenging is that when I was having trouble with my cartwheel. For instance, I felt frustrated because I was trying so hard and I kept on getting hurt. I have experienced being upset for a certain reason because I thought that I wasn’t fit for gymnastics. I thought all my friends were though. Also, I felt sad because my coaches said to me” You will get it soon.” And soon I did get it!!! But I got my cartwheel one month after they said that to me.

One last reason that being on a gymnastics team is challenging is that, when you finally get on the beam or the floor or bars and vault you instantly get nervous and sometimes you feel excited or maybe you feel confident. Really you could feel nervous, excited, and confident.

I realized that being on a gymnastics team is going to be challenging, but when you get the skill, you realize that you did it. It was hard, but all it needed was a little practice. Maybe it took you days to get that skill, or maybe weeks or months or maybe even years!!! But, you got it and you tried. So that’s all that matters.

Extreme Weather Ignite Reflection

I felt stressed during the research part of the project because I had to find the perfect book. That told me the causes of earthquakes.

I felt ok because typing the narrative was fun but being able to decide how it’s going to go was the hard part of it.

I  felt good typing the script because it was fun writing the script and making it, but putting the narrative in the script was hard.

I felt nervous memorizing because I thought I wasn’t going to memorize the script all in time.

But,I did!!!

I felt excited doing the slides pictures because finding pictures that went with the text was really fun!

I felt fine working in a group because it made me feel more comfortable, but sometimes I want to be independent.

What I enjoyed the most was practicing with a group because it was fun and it was happy if we got the ignite at the perfect time.

The most challenging part was when we had to do it without looking at the screen because we didn’t know when it changed.

I felt happy when we did the final presentation because I didn’t make one mistake. So I was pretty happy. I also felt relieved because I didn’t know I would do such a good job and not make a mistake.

No, I would not have gone back on a part because I think nobody notices anything. I didn’t notice anything because I didn’t even make a mistake. So how could anyone have noticed a mistake I didn’t make. Because I remembered every single sentence and word.

My Expert Book: Baking

Image

I came up with my idea when I knew baking was my favorite that was on my list. For my book about baking I first started with my Table of Contents, next I did chapter 1, then I did chapter 2, last I did the Glossary and the About the Author, I also did start to link the hard words that people didn’t know to the Glossary. I also linked the chapters to the right page. My favorite thing I did was thinking about what I should put in the About the Author. I dedicated my book to my grandma Nona. I dedicated it to her because she encouraged me to bake because we both like baking.

This is my expert book.

Thank you for reading.

Personal Narrative – The Hoverboard Problem

THUMP! My hoverboard was beeping as loud as a traffic jam on a highway.

“MOM!” My sister screamed in fright. My mom came speeding like a race car into the living room. My mom sat on the swishy couch and it bounced as my mom sat on it. Tears came speeding out of my eyes.

“What happened?” asked my mom, frightened. I was now crying in my mom’s hands.

My sister explained the whole entire story. She explained how I fell off my hoverboard and how she was so worried. I saw my mom’s jaw open because she was in shock!

“Harper! How did that happen?” my mom asked, concerned.

“It’s a looooooooooooooong story mom!” Called my sister from the kitchen.

My sister came back into the living room. She came back in with a paper towel and an ice pack freezing her hand. Her hand and body were shaking so much that she was acting almost like she was an ice cube.

I felt like I would die and felt like I broke my back but my sister put the ice packs on my back. “Thank you Olivia.” I said.

”You’re welcome,” my sister replied politely.

“Mom, can we go to the shop?” I asked my mom.

“What shop?” My mom asked, really curious.

“SCOOP SHOP!” Me and my sister shouted

“Alright,” my mom mutterered.

“YAY!” my sister and I shouted.
