I just read the first chapter of Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman. I think that Kim was depressed because her father has passed away. In the book it was the anniversary of the father’s death. Her father died 8 months before Kim was born. They didn’t have any memories together. S0 they never got to meet each other once in their whole lifetime.
