Feature Article Blog Post

Imagine you just finished your writing project that you’ve been working on for 2 months and then your tech teacher tells you you’ve formatted everything incorrectly. Now, you have to change  most things that you’ve done. How frustrating is that! Well, that’s how I felt when it came to formatting my feature article. Read to find out more about my chaotic troubles and what I enjoyed most.

One thing I I enjoyed most about writing my feature article was writing my topic sentences. What I found most challenging was writing my conclusion. I enjoyed writing my topic sentences the most because it was simple and it was enjoyable to create a hook. For example,  one of my hooks is “You might be wondering if you played softball, what position could you play? Well there are 3 sections and many positions in those sections. Those sections are called infield, outfield and pitcher/catcher.” There are two parts of a topic sentence. The first part of the hook is,  You might be wondering if you played softball, what position could you play? This part is the hook. The hook has to meet the requirements of entertaining your reader. While on the other hand the 2nd part has to meet the requirements of giving your reader a list of things you are going to talk about. The second part should sound something like this “ Well there are 3 sections and many positions in those sections. Those sections are called infield, outfield and pitcher/catcher.)

I found the conclusion most challenging because we had to recommend how to learn more about the topic we choose. This was challenging because there weren’t really any websites to recommend to the reader. Which made my conclusion not so strong but besides from that my conclusion turned out pretty good.Heres a sneak peak of what it sounds like. “Now you know everything about softball such as the positions of softball, what to pack and the difference between softball and baseball. Now that you learned all about softball I encourage you to play and take action in the fun sport. If you play, what position will you play?”

Know that you know all about chaotic troubles and what I enjoyed most. I encourage you to try to make a feature article about your favorite topic. If you make a future article what would you make yours about?

My class Trip to the Board of Legislators

“YAY,NAY!” Have you ever been able to be in a debating room? Well believe it or not I have! For our field trip we went to the Westchester county Board of Legislators and we got to vote and take a photo with Benjamin Boykin. We voted on should school uniforms be allowed and should schools be allowed.Read my blog post to find out about two things I learned on my and two things I enjoyed on my field trip to Westchester county Board of Legislators.

Two things I learned on my field trip to the Westchester County Board of Legislators were why legislators debate and that anybody could go to the  Westchester county Board of legislators. When we debated we learned first the bill goes to the debating room where you discuss it then you vote on it. For the debating room they discuss the topic so that people can hear different opinions and choose which they are going to vote for.I thought this was interesting because they didn’t just vote they waited to hear, in case they wanted to change their vote. For example someone may say ,I think junk food is good to keep in schools but some else could say, it shouldn’t be allowed but then , the first person could changes their mind because of what the second person said.Another thing I learned was that random people of the community could go to the debate room. This means if you wanted to listen to see if something becomes a law you can for free and you don’t have to be invited. For example you could just walk in and be part of the meeting but you can’t say anything unless you are a public speaker.

Two things I enjoyed on my field trip to Westchester county were debating and getting to take a photo with Benjamin Boykin. When we were debating we got to speak into a microphone and say “YAY OR NAY” then the chair man took a vote to see which thing won.For example there would be a chairman, public speaker and a clerk and legislators. The legislators would say their opinions then the chairman would take a vote to see which one won.I also enjoyed taking a photo with Benjamin Boykin because it was really cool to see someone who was the head of my town taking a photo with me and my class. When we did this we all lined up by the chairman’s desk and took a bunch of photo with him.

Overall I loved this field trip. I hope you get to go on a trip similar to this. In my blog post I talked about taking a photo with Benjamin Boykin and also voting on should school uniforms be allowed.I loved both of these things so much I felt like it was a good learning experience.Would you want to take a photo with Benjamin Boykin? Would you want to vote in a courtroom?Which role would you want to act out?

First Week of 5th Grade

Have you ever had to try and make a tower out of only index cards? Well, believe it or not, I have! Read my blog post to find out more about the favorite things I have done so far in fifth grade and things I am looking forward to doing this school year.

Two things I enjoyed doing my first week of school are the index Card challenge and the 20 by 9 challenge. For the Index card challenge we worked in groups to try and build the tallest sculpture in 15 minutes with 100 index cards. I enjoyed this because it was challenging but it was also fun rushing to build and not make it fall. For example our structure keeps falling down and we try to rebuild it in time before the time runs out and we did it we WON! Another thing I enjoyed was the 20 by 9 challenge. We tried to make the number 20 with only 6 numbers and they had to be the same.It was fun creating equations but sometimes there would be more than 6 digits so it made it challenging. For example, One equation is 5 + 5 + (5 + 5 =20).

Two things I’m looking forward to this year are the Heathcote volleyball game and the field trip to Boundless adventures. The volleyball game is were kids play a volleyball game against the teachers.I am excited for this because I think we have a chance of beating the teachers. For example there will be 1 5th grade class playing against about 8 teachers.Another thing I think I will like is the field trip boundless adventures. This is a ropes course where we will be challenged to do certain obstacles. I am excited for the obstacle course. We might even be able to do my favorite “ziplining”.For example, we will be in small groups trying to get across a rope together.

Overall the first week of school was amazing.I hope you get to do fun things like I did.I hope you have enjoyed reading blog posts and learning about what I am doing In fifth grade. I loved doing my project. If you got to do this what would you write about?
