Feature Article Reflection

Have you ever made a feature article? Making a feature article was definitely harder than I thought it would. My topic is that being a MLB player is very hard. It was hard to make it because there was a lot of thought put into it and the countless hours of typing was really painful. In the end I think it was definitely worth it. 

In the process of making a feature article there were lots of ups and downs. There were a couple parts that I enjoyed, like the time we had to start putting pictures in our feature article because it was really easy and fun to do. For instance, I put Derek Jeter as one of many pictures which I thought was amazing because I looked up to him as a baseball player every day.  Another part I enjoyed was the time we got to choose our topic. This is because I really love playing and watching pros play baseball. This inspires me to be even better at baseball than I used to be by watching them. A downside to the feature article is the amount of time typing just the same way I am typing this reflection. I had to spend days on end editing and elaborating to make it to the best it can possibly be. Another bad part about the feature article was structuring my writing. This was because I had to see multiple times if things fit or not fit. And despite that I had to make things a certain size which made it really annoying to fit my writing in the tiny boxes. As you can see there have been some ups and downs in my feature article.

In this feature article I also used techniques such as comparing and talking to my reader to get my point across. For example, I compared the speed of a baseball to a formula one car. This felt really nice adding this to my feature article because I know other books that use the same trick to compare things. Another good technique that I used in my feature article was talking to the reader like he was in a conversation. I can honestly relate this when I read Fiction books, it feels like I got sucked in the book but I’m actually just reading it. In the end these tricks really helped out my reading and I even encourage you to try them too.

Towards the end of my feature article there were some things that I was really proud of, such as finishing my feature article. The reason why I’m really proud of this is because after one month of straight painful typing the amount of relief I had I couldn’t even express it into words, how much joy I felt.  Another thing I was proud of was the amount of inspiration I took out of this project. For example, when I wrote about Jackie Robinson, he was the only black person in the MLB. And at one point a lot of people targeted him such as throwing the ball at his head or calling him names. Instead of retaliating he played it cool and inspired more black people to play baseball. Which one point changed the color barrier in MLB forever. This shows all of the stuff that I took out of my feature article and will probably keep with me for a long time.

In the end, I really enjoyed my feature article, even the ups and downs and this was one of my favorite pieces of writing this year. Although I wrote it still taught me something you should know too. If you put in the hours of hard work and discipline for baseball you will succeed like I did in my feature article. This shows however difficult the situation might be, you always have the chance to succeed. Now let me ask you this, are you going to put in the work?

Last Year Here

I never thought I would get to fifth grade in my life. But the time came and it’s been the first week. It feels a little weird knowing that you’re the leader of your school and soon enough you will be in a new school. But besides that I hope you had a great first week of fifth grade. And I will show you what mine was.

This past week I have done many new things as a fifth grader and look forward to the things to come. One of the things I did this past week was complete my Identity Map. This was fun because In school you learn about subjects and this was about my life. For example, in fourth Grade we made a self portrait based on the book We are all Wonder’s. “I looked at other people’s Identity maps and thought mine was a piece of garbage.” This made me focus more and made mine very good. “This improved my drawing skills and that’s why I did well in the Identity map.” I said. Another thing that I enjoyed was making the We Make a Difference Project. But there was one problem. “It looked like my hairline was pushed back to the 1982 Ninja Turtle series.” Then later I succeeded and thought this project was really fun. This was because you get to make a self portrait of yourself and then find a quote on the Internet. I chose one by Michael Jordan which I thought was cool. One last thing is playing Wall Ball in PE. I liked playing this game because it involved the whole class, and it involved throwing a ball which I’m good at because I play baseball. For example, When Josh threw the ball at the wall It rolled all the way to the end of the black top. I ran after the ball even though It was going to be a hard throw but I knew I could make the throw because I play baseball. I picked up the ball and I threw It as far as I could and It barely touched the wall. These are just a couple experiences that have happened to me so far and more to come. 

There are a few things that I am most excited this year as a fifth grader

One thing that I look forward to is having a Field Day. This is because it is a privilege as a fifth grader and the whole day you’re playing games instead of doing work. Another thing that I look forward to is the Halloween party. I look forward to the Halloween party because I’ve been to Halloween parties before and they were really fun. This is because you go to the school late at night and you get candy. The last thing that I look forward to this year is the Solar System and stars project. I chose this because It’s cool learning things that are beyond our planet. I look forward to this because one time I learned about the lunar and solar new year. This inspired me to have more interest In our Solar System.

In conclusion, the first week of fifth grade wasn’t that bad and there are a lot of things to look forward to. For example the time we have our halloween party to the day we graduate. What do you look forward to in fifth grade?

 

Sports Aren’t Easy

Many people think being on a team is easy because they think all you need to do is be the best player on the team. But actually you need to cooperate with your teammates and most importantly, you need certain types of skills to even play. I think this because when you are on a team you have to cooperate and work together. This is very important because if you don’t cooperate or don’t know what you’re doing in the game your team will keep falling and falling apart. This is why being cooperative and knowing what to do in a game is so important.

Being on a team is challenging because you need to work together. For example when you are on a team you can’t just have things your own way. It is a team decision. Another example of being on a team is challenging because when your teammate is down you should cheer your teammate up. For instance, when it was the game before the championship my baseball team was down by 2 runs in the last inning when a kid on my team was at bat. Two strikes were against him until the third ball came and it was called a strike. The game was over but our team still cheered him up despite the fact the game was over.

Being on a team is challenging because you need certain types of skills to play. For example, when you are on a team you can’t just wait to think what to do, you have to make quick decisions at certain times. Another example of being on a team can be challenging because you need certain types of knowledge. For instance, if you are playing soccer you need to know what to do with the soccer ball at certain times when playing. Finally, why being on a team is challenging is because you need to be flexible. This is because if you plan on doing something in your game, but your coach says to do something else you should just agree with it and move on. 

Too often people think being on a team is easy. This is not true because you need to work together and even have certain types of skills to even play. This is important because kids should learn that it takes a lot of courage and perseverance and knowledge to know what to do at certain times of the game. 

My Expert Book: All About Skiing

I really enjoyed writing my Expert Book, but it was tiring! I came up with my idea of skiing because that is a sport that I play a lot and that I enjoy. But to even write this book on a computer I had to write down everything I know and one of them was skiing. After I came up with my idea, I had to dump all the information onto a page. Then we came up with a table of contents and a glossary and an introduction. Then I had to figure out how many slides I needed for my expert book. After that, I had to type the whole story again. We had to edit our work then we had to add some pictures on the pages. Also one of the hardest parts was adding a diagram and linking it to my book. One of my favorite parts about my expert book was adding the pictures on the pages because I love seeing people doing crazy stunts. One of the things I needed help with was organizing my chapters and pictures. I learned that I can write so much more than I thought I could. I feel really excited about my final project because now in my expert book author, you can see if you scan a QR code!
