Feature Article Reflection

Have you ever made a feature article? Making a feature article was definitely harder than I thought it would. My topic is that being a MLB player is very hard. It was hard to make it because there was a lot of thought put into it and the countless hours of typing was really painful. In the end I think it was definitely worth it.

In the process of making a feature article there were lots of ups and downs. There were a couple parts that I enjoyed, like the time we had to start putting pictures in our feature article because it was really easy and fun to do. For instance, I put Derek Jeter as one of many pictures which I thought was amazing because I looked up to him as a baseball player every day.  Another part I enjoyed was the time we got to choose our topic. This is because I really love playing and watching pros play baseball. This inspires me to be even better at baseball than I used to be by watching them. A downside to the feature article is the amount of time typing just the same way I am typing this reflection. I had to spend days on end editing and elaborating to make it to the best it can possibly be. Another bad part about the feature article was structuring my writing. This was because I had to see multiple times if things fit or not fit. And despite that I had to make things a certain size which made it really annoying to fit my writing in the tiny boxes. As you can see there have been some ups and downs in my feature article.

In this feature article I also used techniques such as comparing and talking to my reader to get my point across. For example, I compared the speed of a baseball to a formula one car. This felt really nice adding this to my feature article because I know other books that use the same trick to compare things. Another good technique that I used in my feature article was talking to the reader like he was in a conversation. I can honestly relate this when I read Fiction books, it feels like I got sucked in the book but I’m actually just reading it. In the end these tricks really helped out my reading and I even encourage you to try them too.

Towards the end of my feature article there were some things that I was really proud of, such as finishing my feature article. The reason why I’m really proud of this is because after one month of straight painful typing the amount of relief I had I couldn’t even express it into words, how much joy I felt.  Another thing I was proud of was the amount of inspiration I took out of this project. For example, when I wrote about Jackie Robinson, he was the only black person in the MLB. And at one point a lot of people targeted him such as throwing the ball at his head or calling him names. Instead of retaliating he played it cool and inspired more black people to play baseball. Which one point changed the color barrier in MLB forever. This shows all of the stuff that I took out of my feature article and will probably keep with me for a long time.

In the end, I really enjoyed my feature article, even the ups and downs and this was one of my favorite pieces of writing this year. Although I wrote it still taught me something you should know too. If you put in the hours of hard work and discipline for baseball you will succeed like I did in my feature article. This shows however difficult the situation might be, you always have the chance to succeed. Now let me ask you this, are you going to put in the work?

Hope you enjoyed my reflection, here is my feature article!

Board of Legislators Reflection

It was September, 24th 2024, and it was the day we went to the Board of Legislators field trip. Personally, I was having low expectations for this trip. But then when I found out I was sitting in a real chamber room where our Legislature Ben Boykin has his meetings, my jaw dropped. “Wow.” I said in shock. I enjoyed many things on this trip such as having a debate and finding out the population of my county. I also learned many things about the Board of Legislator on this trip.

Some of my favorite activities of the Board of Legislators were having a debate in the chamber room, meeting Ben Boykin and going in the committee room. When I went into the committee room I felt like I was in a very important situation. It was like I was the main attention if I was on tv. Another thing that I very much enjoyed was having another debate in the committee room. I said “you should be able to wear whatever you want to school instead of a uniform.” This felt very cool to do. This room is where laws are brought up and decide whether or not they should be a law or not. I liked this room a lot because it had candy which was a great addition to the field trip. The last thing that I felt was one of my favorite things about the trip was meeting our Legislature Ben Boykin. It felt like I was meeting Super Man  knowing that he is a very important person to Westchester County. Knowing this I would like to learn some more things about the board of Legislators.

There were a lot of things that I learned on the field trip but one was how many people live in Scarsdale. We also learned about the different courthouses and what happens in the chamber room. For example, when I found out that 20,000 thousand people live in Scarsdale I said. “Holy Molly there’s less than I expected.” Another thing that I learned was the three different courts. When I found out there were three, I was very surprised. Another thing I learned was that there were three different court rooms: the federal, county, and the Supreme Court. The last thing I learned is where the board of Legislators have their meetings. When I went Inside the chamber room where the legislators debate whether or not a law should be one or not. This made my brain blown away. When I had to speak on the microphone, I said “I feel like there should be vending machines with snacks because it is a nice treat for kids to have.” I thought this was a really cool experience and hope this becomes a real thing in the future.

In the end, this field trip wasn’t that bad and I learned many interesting facts and experienced many fun things. From the time I went into the chamber room, to the time we learned that 1.1 million people lived in Scarsdale. Experiencing these things blows my brain away and wants me to learn more. This is definitely one of my favorite school trips so far. What is your favorite school trip you’ve been on?

Blog Post #3 – AmRev

The feeling of being done feels amazing because now I don’t have to worry anymore about the project. The thing that I enjoyed the most was doing the presentation because then after it I’m done with the whole project. The most challenging thing was adding pictures. This was because It took a while to upload pictures from goggle to WeVideo. If I was going to give advice about this project to the up and coming fourth graders I would tell them to not worry about it. This is because you wont be worried when you present your presentation to your parents.

Passion Project Blog Post

I chose the history of the New York Yankees because when I was five I started watching the Yankees a lot. As my final project I chose Google Slides so I can present more information about my topic. I enjoyed very much working on the project because this was a team that I have been watching for awhile. If I was going to give advice on what to change about the project I wouldn’t say anything because I thought my teachers did a great job coming up with this project.

Blog Post #2 AmRev!

I selected a weVideo to present my presentation.  I chose weVideo because this way I don’t have to remember stuff when I can just read it off a piece of paper. Writing my narrative was a pretty easy process because all I had to do was organize my Information and put it in order. The script was a little hard because I had to cut out certain things and time myself and add pictures that have an idea of what to put in WeVide. Creating the Project was hard because for the WeVideo I had to record which took me days to make it perfect and adding pictures took a long time too.

When Researching about the Declaration of Independence I used Ducksters, Fact Cite, and True Flix. There wasn’t that hard to find Information because there was a lot of Information to write about the Declaration of Independence. If I went back to research again to do something different I would do the same thing because I got my Information relatively fast.

As I move on to the next phase of the project, I am feeling good because I already finished my narrative and only need to record myself and add pictures to my presentation.

Middle Colonies Reflection

The process of researching the Middle colonies took a lot of websites such as Fact Site, Ducksters, and Pebble Go. Then once I gathered all of my information I took my notes in a packet. Then choose an infographic because I can make my infographic look cool when I can just look something up.

Then after choosing an infographic I had to decorate my infographic while putting my information into sections. I chose the Middle colonies because one of the middle colonies is New York and I am a fan of the New York Yankees. One thing that I thought was hard was putting all of my information into an infographic. This is because I had to think about what wasn’t that important and what was.

The thing that I enjoyed the most was finishing because then I can see the final project.

The most challenging thing was getting all of my information. If I were to go back and change something I would probably only get my information on Ducksters because they gave really good information.

Extreme Weather Ignite Reflection

The first part of the project was gathering information which I thought was pretty easy to do.

When I started writing my narrative I noticed that I had a lot of the same information so I got rid of it.

Then I had to memorize it which I thought was one of the hardest things to do in the project.

Then finally I had to make the slides which was ok because our group had a hard time centering the pictures but overall it was pretty straightforward.

The most challenging thing was presenting our presentation in front of our parents because it brought  a lot of stress.

The thing that I enjoyed the most was finishing the project because I felt relieved when I was done with the presentation.

I felt working together was good because they helped me get information and overall I felt it wasn’t that bad.

My Expert Book: All About Skiing

I really enjoyed writing my Expert Book, but it was tiring! I came up with my idea of skiing because that is a sport that I play a lot and that I enjoy. But to even write this book on a computer I had to write down everything I know and one of them was skiing. After I came up with my idea, I had to dump all the information onto a page. Then we came up with a table of contents and a glossary and an introduction. Then I had to figure out how many slides I needed for my expert book. After that, I had to type the whole story again. We had to edit our work then we had to add some pictures on the pages. Also one of the hardest parts was adding a diagram and linking it to my book. One of my favorite parts about my expert book was adding the pictures on the pages because I love seeing people doing crazy stunts. One of the things I needed help with was organizing my chapters and pictures. I learned that I can write so much more than I thought I could. I feel really excited about my final project because now in my expert book author, you can see if you scan a QR code!

This is my expert book.

Thank you for reading.
