Feature Article

Imagine this: Your teacher tells you to write a feature article on something you know all about. “Ummmm” You think, “ What should I write?… OH! Japan!”. This probably didn’t happen to you but it did happen to me! In this blog post your going to learn about what I enjoyed the most about writing my feature article, what I found challenging about writing my article, What I enjoyed the most about formatting my article, and what I found challenging about formatting my article.

Something I enjoyed the most is when writing my feature article is writing the section about food and something I thought was challenging was picking out what food I should write about. I enjoyed writing about food because it reminded me of all of the yummy treats in Japan that I tried. I thought picking out wha food I was going to write about was tricky because I really wanted to write about all of the foods I had in mind but I couldn’t choose all of them. If I did It would be wayyyyyyyy too long. So the foods I wrote about were the foods I enjoyed the most while I was in Japan.

I enjoyed picking pictures out while formatting and what I found challenging was editing the text. I enjoyed picking out pictures because all of them made me just want to grab it out of the screen. They looked very appealing to me. I thought the editing was hard because when I thought all of the text fit we did something else to help it and then I realized there wasn’t enough room.

I hope you enjoyed learning about what I enjoyed the most about writing my feature article, what I found challenging about writing my article, What I enjoyed the most about formatting my article, and what I found challenging about formatting my article. And one question before you go… If you had the chance what would you do?

Inquiry blog post

Imagine you had to do an inquiry project on space or the government. You pick space. Well that’s exactly what happened to me. In the blog you’re going to read two things I learned about my topic, and two things I learned about the research/presentation process.

Two things I learned was that Mars has a very thin layer of carbon dioxide and another thing is that Mars also has four seasons. For my inquiry project I learned that in order for a planet to have life it needs Carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a gas that is made of one atom of Carbon (C) and two atoms of oxygen(O). A shorter name is CO2. When I found out that mars also has 4 seasons i was really surprised because that just makes it one thing more like earth.

Two things I learned were cutting down my information and picking out the most important stuff. Cutting my information was necessary because I had a lot of information and it wouldn’t fit on a tiny piece of paper because I was doing a Zine. Picking out the most important stuff was also hard because I didn’t know what was good and what I didn’t need! But after I picked out what I thought were the most interesting and important pieces of information I had.

I hope you enjoyed learning about two things I learned about my topic, and two things I learned about the research/presentation process. Would you ever do this project if you had the chance? If you could, would you pick space or the government?

Field trip to the County Board of Legislators

Imagine this “ Your sitting in a courtroom as a legislator and suddenly the clerk says Legislator y/n, yay or nay? You say Yay… The bill passes on to the next step on becoming a bill!” Well this is exactly what happened to me. But I was the clerk! In this blog post you’re going to hear about two things I learned on my field trip to the Westchester County Board of Legislators and two things I enjoyed the most!

Two things I learned about the legislative branch of county government is that there are hundreds, even thousands of bills coming but about only five or something actually get approved. The reason is because the bills need the majority of the legislatures to say yay but usually that doesn’t happen. Another thing I learned is that there have been 8 chairs that have been female! I personally thought that there were going to be fewer! How many did you think there were? The names of the chairwoman were Erika L. Pierce, Margaret A. Cunzio, Nancy E. Barr, Catherine F. Parker, Jewel Williams. Johnson, Emiljana Ulaj, Terry Clements, and Shanae Williams.

I wasn’t a legislator, I was a clerk but, two things I enjoyed about being a clerk was taking attendance and sitting in the front of the room. I enjoyed taking attendance because it was fun going down the list of names saying “Legislator____ “and they’ll say “present!” or something like that. The reason I enjoyed just sitting there is because my desk was at the front of the room and it felt like I was really important when sitting there. I never get picked for this stuff so I was REALLY excited. I also saw the WHOLE courtroom and I could see all the legislators ( my classmates ) really clearly so taking attendance was a bit easier.

Overall I loved writing this blog post! I hope you enjoyed this blog post just as much as I liked writing this post! I also hope you enjoyed learning two things I learned on my field trip to the Westchester County Board of Legislators and two things I enjoyed the most! If you went on this field trip would you like it? Would you want to be a clerk or a legislator? What would you enjoy the most? And would you want to go on this field trip?

First Week of School

It’s the end of the first week of school. You have done so many fun activities! When you get home your mom asks you “What did you do at school this week?” You tell her all the fun things you’ve done. In this blog post I’m going to tell you two fun activities I’ve done in the first week of school. I’m also going to tell you two things I’ve been looking forward to.

Two things that I enjoyed doing the first week of school are the Index Card Challenge and Identity Maps. For the Index Card Challenge we had to use 100 hundred index cards to build the tallest self standing tower or structure in 15 minutes. We also had to keep rebuilding it if it fell down. I really enjoyed this challenge because I think that it was really fun but frustrating when our tower fell and then we found out better ways to build the tower. Identity Maps is when you make sections on a piece of paper and then inside those sections you write something about you. For example what your favorite food is, or what your favorite sports team is, etc… I liked Identity Maps because I think it was a really good and fun way to show people who you are and what you like. I also liked Identity Maps because drawing and coloring in the spaces were really fun but tiring.

Two things I am looking forward to the volleyball game and capstone this year. The volleyball game is when 5th graders go up against teachers in a match. I’m excited because I love volleyball and if I ever do it professionally I would want to be a libero. A libero is usually a shorter player but taller players can also play this position. They also usually switch on and off the court and they wear a different color jersey then the other players. They mostly receive but sometimes can do other stuff like setting. But most times they don’t because most liberos don’t practice these types of stuff. Capstone is basically a big presentation and you get to pick the topic you want to do. I’m excited for this because I have always wanted to do a presentation about some type of disease but never got the chance because my teacher always picked my topic but now I can since I can pick my own topic.

Overall I loved writing this blog post and I wish I could’ve written more! I hope you have enjoyed reading all about what two fun activities I’ve done in the first week of school and two things I’ve been looking forward to in my blog post. If you ever had the chance to do this, what would you write? What did you do or what are you looking forward to this school year? If you already finished school what did you look forward to?
