Vote For Me

Vote for Clara!! Hi, I’m Clara. Imagine yourself as a leader someone people can rely on. Well that could be me as student body president. I’m a clean organized person that you can trust on. If you vote for me I would change when you have playground, blacktop, where you sit at lunch, and much more! Don’t forget vote for Clara for the best days at school!

I love Heathcote so much but if I was the student body president there are a couple things that I would change! The first thing I would change is for us to be able to go on blacktop field or playground any day. I would do this because we go on playground and field one day and the next day blacktop. For example I have seen lots of kids complaining about this which is important to take their opinions too but sometimes kids don’t like blacktop or playground and just want to play with the younger/older group. I would write an essay to Mrs. Stile and reasons why we should change this. So making anyone be able to go where they wanted on recess would not hurt anyone and would make people happy!

The second thing that I would do is where we are/aren’t able to sit at lunch. I would do this because being able to sit with your class is nice but sometimes we need a change. Even though fifth grade has that privilege but can lose it other grades should have that too. For instance imagen someone gets into a class that they have no friends in it, they could be very upset but what if they sat wherever they wanted to sit it could be a little chaotic but we should give each grade some chances for it because then everyone could be happy and no one would complain about having no friends in their class.

Once again you should vote for me for the best days at school, best lunch/recess, and for where you spend your days at recess. If you were ever to run for student body president what changes would you make and how would you make them?

Board of Legislators!

Could you imagine if someone said to you,I think we should have Starbucks everyday! That’s a terrible idea!! That’s how we debated at the board of legislature field trip! (we didn’t exactly debate about starbucks but that’s ok!)I’m gonna tell you all about my ideas, debates and what I learned about. And I really hope you like my opinions cause they were sure good! I had lots of fun and I learned so much!

I had so much fun on the field trip. My favorite parts were speaking into the microphone because it made me feel very professional because we all took turns saying our opinions which mine was VERY important.  Another thing that I liked was hitting the gavel. It was very cool and it made me feel important and that I had a lot of power! The last thing that I really enjoyed is that I got to shake the legislature’s hand which was very pleasing and exciting. It was very nice because when he shook my hand and he said “ you look like a nice smart little girl.” I was super cheerful!!! There were so many great parts and so many learning experiences!!

I learned lots and lots of fun things but my favorite one was learning how all the stuff there in the building worked and how for example when we were in the meeting room and we had to take turns talking discussing our opinions there was even a head of the table which made it even more realistic and much cooler! We also learned how to bang the gavel and what to say if you were on the top chair in the chamber of the legislature’s board room. The last thing that we learned that they do is the names to call people like the chair the clerk and you can also call each other legislature and then their name! I was even like woah this is so cool I feel soooo professional!

I had lots of fun and I learned so much! Do you know your legislature? Have you ever been to your board of legislature building? Well if you haven’t then you should definitely go because it’s worth it! You will learn so much and most importantly you will have lots of fun!

The First Weeks of School!

Do you remember the first week of fifth grade? Well I sure do! There were so many amazing, fun experiences and so many more in the future!

Some things I’ve liked in 5th grade this past week is my identity map project and getting to draw and write down stuff that I like to do and about my family and where I was born that was very cool. While I was working on my identity map I said to myself, “Why did I draw my dog like a cat?!” Last year I did something like an identity map and it was super fun but this year I made it a little different and with more details. I also loved music with the new teacher Ms. Accola. It was fun learning new songs, getting to know her and playing music with her. While I was at music I started thinking wow Ms. Accola is super nice! I also loved when we got to pick our seats because we were the only ones in the school who got that privilege to pick our own seats. Even though sitting wherever we wanted was very chaotic, it was very nice so we could sit with people who weren’t in our classes and get a chance to talk to them.

Something that I am looking forward to doing this year is the Fifth Grade Halloween Party. When I figured out that I was having one I said, “What is the 5th grade halloween party?” I don’t know much about it but I’m excited to dress up with my friends and have lots and lots of fun. I’m also very excited for curling with Mr. Borgia because we have curled before but it was in the gym and now it’s for a field trip and on real ice which sound like would be a lot more fun! My brother went curling on the ice two years ago with Mr. Borgia and I got super jealous but now I get to go and I’m super excited! The last thing is that I’m also excited for poetry because poetry is my favorite type of writing. I love writing poems and making stuff rhyme and writing crazy and funny stuff.

Overall, the first week of school was super amazing and fun. I’m looking forward to this year a lot too for my graduation cause we get to miss school and for the halloween party to eat too much candy! Did you have a good time your first week of 5th grade cause I know I did!

Reading the Weather Reflection

When I was doing research I thought that it was kind of easy. The tricky part was that every different site I went to had the same information as the last site so it was hard to find new information.  It was also confusing on some sentences because there were some words that I did not know and that were tricky to read.

When I was writing my notes there was a lot of hard words to spell and I was not sure where to paragraph on my paper. I had never really known a lot about blizzards so it was hard to understand lots of things and sometimes I was so confused with words I did not even know where to put them in a sentence.

Writing my narrative was pretty easy because I just copied off of my notes. For my narrative everything was going good.  When I noticed that I had way too much writing I knew that was a problem. It was hard deleting half of it because I did not know what parts to keep and what parts to delete.

My script was hard. It was hard because I had to delete a lot. I also had to add a bunch of paragraphs, spaces, and capitals. I could not find all the places that I needed to add paragraphs, spaces, and capitals so I had to keep re-reading it  over and over again.

The rehearsals were not too difficult because I did not take too long to memorize my script but once in a while I would mess up a little or forget a word or two. sometimes when I messed up I started to get nervous that in the presentation I would mess up but after a while I started to get less nervous because I was not messing up as much because I had fully memorized it by then.

At first I was really scared for the presentation because I did not want to mess up and forget everything and then when I walked up everyone stared at me and that made me a little nervous. Later I started talking without messing up and started to feel a little better and a lot less nervous.

Before I felt like our group that we would not get a lot done and that we would laugh during the whole presentation and then we would forget everything and maybe even get in trouble for laughing so much. After I noticed that my group could work hard be serious and try hard when we want to do something we can do it if we try!

Persuasive Writing

Essay

Everyone has a best friend. Best friends are special to our lives because they are the people we can share secrets with, enjoy spending time with and will always be there when you need them. You might be thinking, “are best friends really that important? What about family?” Family is just as special but the difference is you get to pick your best friend! You select the person or people that you want in your life, you can’t do that with family.

One reason that everyone should appreciate their best friend is because they are the one person you can truly share secrets with. I have a best friend named Eva, I tell her everything! One time I told her something that I didn’t want anyone to know. When someone else asked her about it she responded with, “that’s none of your business.” That is a true friend that you can trust. People like Eva should be appreciated all the time for keeping our secrets safe.

Another reason everyone should appreciate their best friend is because they are fun to be around and people we want to have in our life. For example, whenever I am with Eva we always have a great time! We laugh, we play and we have inside jokes together. Best friends are there to have fun with us and they are people that we chose to have in our life.

The last reason is that best friends will always be there for you when you most need them. They keep us company when we are sad and celebrate us when we are happy. You might be wondering, “well my mom can keep me company when I’m sad? Why does my best friend have to?” The truth is, we might not always want to share things with our parents. For example, your mom says, “Go do your chores!” I would not go to my mom and talk about it with her. I would need to vent to someone else. I would go and talk about it to my best friend and tell her how my mom is being so annoying and how I don’t want to do my chores. Best friends will always be there when you need them most.

Do you have a best friend? Well if you do, hold on tight and don’t lose them because best friends will always be an important and special part of your life. And if you’re lucky like me, you’ll get a friend like Eva!

Reflection

I choose the topic everyone should appreciate their best friends because best friends don’t get appreciated often when they do a lot for you every day. One thing I enjoyed was getting to express what my best friend (Eva) does everyday for me and how good I feel inside when she does it. Lastly one thing that was difficult to write was my introduction because all I could think about was what to write for my reasons so I had to keep thinking how i would or could start of my story with an introduction but what was hard about that was their were so many ways or options that I could start off my story.

My Expert Book: Babysitting

I came up with this idea because I have been babysat my whole life and I thought that from the experience that I see my nanny doing every single day I had already learned from that until I started babysitting for a family and got even more experience. The process was a little bit hard for me because I had to come up with a lot of ideas and I was starting to run out. I think with the chapters after I knew what they were about I got a hang of it and was able to do it easily. The organizing got a little challenging because I did not really know what to put where and started getting a little bit confused. I think my favorite part was the third chapter because, it was really good and I thought a lot of people got inspired by it even though it was the shortest. I feel really good with the final product of my story, I think it was my longest and best story I have wrote in my whole entire life.

This is my expert book.

Thanks you for reading.

Personal Narrative-The Zoo

“OMG is that an elephant? It’s so cute!” I squealed as we walked into the Bronx Zoo. “ Can I feed it? Please, please?!” I begged my mom.

“Honey, sorry t we are not allowed to feed elephants here,” mom said back.

“Awwww, but I wanted to feed them!” I said.

We then continued on to the other exhibits. As we walked through the zoo, I heard the loud roar of the lions up ahead. “I wonder what they’re so angry about,” I thought to myself as we approached their home.

“Why don’t we move on?” I said to mom, scared of the lion staring back at me. So we did.

“Are those flamingos!” My mouth flung open. “Wow, they’re so balanced.” I said, not looking away. “I love flamingos!“ I said with all of my excitement.

Then we moved on.

“Monkeys!” I yelled.

“Sweetheart, are you gonna be excited for every single thing we see?” Mom asked.

“Well?” I thought to myself. “Yeah pretty much,” I said with a giggle. “Now mom, did we bring the bananas?”

“Yes, but I told you earlier that we can’t feed them.” mom replied.

“Ugh, why not?” I said, dropping my shoulders.

“You’ll get us kicked out,” mom whispered.

Next we headed to the giraffes. That’s when everything changed!

“Can I keep one please, please, please?!” I begged.

“No, of course not!” said mom as she walked away.

“Ugh,” I groaned.

“Hmmmm…….” I thought to myself. “Aha! I know. I could pick the lock, budge one out and give it the GPS for the way home!” My plan will definitely work. I quickly and quietly got my hair clip and started to pick the lock, until………

“Ahh, what was that! Oh no!” I said as I slowly turned around and saw the guard and my mom.

“What were you doing there, miss?” asked the guard.

“Ummm,” I chuckled. “Nothing.”

“You must leave now!” screamed the guard.

“She’s just a ki-.” Mom said.

“NOW!” the guard interrupted.

We bursted out laughing while running through the door. “Now,” said mom. “Don’t pick the lock of the car door.” I laughed even harder.

“Until next time,” I yelled.
