Have you met an immigrant? Probably. Well my mom is an immigrant and I interviewed er. For my immigration project first I Interviewed her. Then I did my narrative and did my script. After all that I did my video with Pictures and a voice over of me talking about her experience to the U.S. It was a very long process but in the end it turned out amazing and was super fun!
To prepare for the interview first I had to pick my person. I picked my mom who immigrated from Brazil. The next thing I had to do was create a list of questions to ask her. When I was making my list of questions I had to consider questions that were not closed. If I had done only closed questions the only I would have in my interview would be yes and no. My experience conducting the interview was good. What I did was I asked my mom all these questions in ways I would get lots of info and long answers. The interview was conducted in person. The interview was amazing and went as expected. All that happened was me and my mom sat at a table and I asked her questions and she answered and I wrote her answers down. The most interesting thing I learned about my mom during this was her first job she ever had in California. This job was her working at the Dean’s office.
Making my video was also a very long process. The first step was to do voice over. I recorded myself telling my mom’s immigrant story. The next step was the hardest. We had to get a bunch of photos and each one could only last up to six seconds. Which was super hard because I had to get so many different ones and some were really hard to find. The easy part of the video was adding music to the background. Some stuff I learned in WeVideo that I hadn’t done before was, I learned how to upload photos, and how to zoom in on stuff. Lastly I am most proud of the perfect timing of the pictures and my voice lined up. That helped so everything was more clear.
In conclusion, my experience doing an immigrant interview was amazing. I interviewed my mom, did my script, my narrative, and lastly made my video with the pictures and the voice over. It was super fun learning these things about my mom. I had so much fun in this experience!
