Class Trip to The Board of Legislators

Imagine you’re in a big room and you are debating with your friends about banning vending machines in the school cafeteria.Chair Dean, will call on you and you will talk in a really cool microphone about your opinion. That is what happened on our trip to The Board of Legislators. This is what I am going to tell you about. You are going to learn about what I enjoyed and what I learned.

Two things I learned about The Legislative Branch of County Government are how to be a real legislator and I learned all about Legislator Benjamin Boykin. The chairman would go around and ask our opinion. Then the chairman will go around again and we will state our final vote. I learned that there are about 765,000 people in district 16.

I enjoyed talking in the really cool microphone that connected to speakers all around the room. Another thing that I enjoyed was debating with friends. Some people said nay and some people said yay. Nay means no, and yay means yes.

First Week of 5th Grade

We put our head down and the teacher walks around the room and puts a binder clip on someone’s clothes. Then we stand up and we walk around the room and we try to find the binder clip. But if we find it then we sit down. That is just one thing that I am going to talk about. In this blog post I will be telling you about what I am looking forward to, like Hot Dog Field Day and teacher vs students volleyball game! I am also going to tell you about what has been fun this past week, the energisers and the index card challenge.

Two things that I enjoyed this past week were the index card challenge and the energisers we have been doing. The index card challenge was to build the tallest building out of index cards only using 100 index cards. It was so fun because we had to be creative with it. The other one that I loved is the energisers that we did. My favorite was clandestine paper clip. How it works is that the teacher puts a paperclip on a student’s clothes. Then you walk around the room and try to find it. Why it was my favorite is because it is a secret.   

I am looking forward to field day and the volleyball game. I am looking forward to it because all the sports  and we play against all the other classes. I am also looking forward to the teacher vs students because I love volleyball. In pe we play against the teachers in a volleyball game. It is a really fun day that only the 5th graders have. Also we try to beat the teachers.

My topic is the Boston Massacre. I picked this topic because it seemed interesting. I am presenting my topic in a Ted Talk. The most support I needed  was when researching for information because I just either put it into a narrative right away or I just copy and paste it. This project helped me search for information  in multiple places and present this information in my own words.My favorite part was presenting because I thought I would not be able to do it. I am presenting through a Ted Talk. I am excited to present. Practicing each day has helped me memorize my script to prepare for my presentation.

Extreme Weather

I am happy that I did it. I was soooooooooo scared and I did it. I did not mess up once it was so amazing. Deciding my group was very easy. I loved my group so much. Doing my research was very easy then by the end it was so hard because I thought that I had it all. I think it was easier to use the internet because it had more information and it was up to date. I was so sad to write it into my script and make it small. Finding my photo was hard because I felt that sometimes I couldn’t find the right photo. Memorizing was really hard for me because I would trip over some words in my script. I was very proud to work with a group I had. We all helped each other. The hardest part about being in a group was the timing. We only had 30 seconds to complete. The best feeling about this project was memorizing my lines and completing the project. 

Expert Book: Cristiano Ronaldo

I came up with this idea because Senor Johnson does not like Ronaldo. I wanted to write this book to make him laugh. First I had to write the chapters. Then I had to write the sub headings. My challenge was to write it. The thing that I needed help brainstorm the chapters. My favorite part was typing because I liked typing. I felt amazing about the end project.

Skateboard

It was dark and warm outside. My cousin and I were at the top of the hill in our yard. I went down first on my skateboard and it was exciting.

Soon after my sister and other cousin arrived, I felt nervous at the top of the hill. I saw my parents and the rest of my family eating dinner. I was about to go down on the skateboard, but my sister said, ”Stop good luck.” I kicked my stand and went down the hill. I was trying to keep my balance, but I was getting a lot of momentum. My legs were getting shaky and wind was blowing in my face. “Oh my god,” I said . It was crazy! It was finally done. There was a bump. 

“Dinner time,” The parents yelled. But the boys had the skateboard. We beat them. After eating I was thrilled to go back out. We went playing down the steep hill on my four wheels back and went down. Oh my god that was so fun we were so hot.

I said to my cousin, “That was so crazy.” 

“I know,” my cousin responded. Danny and I were running back in the house. We both were so tired.
