First Week of 5th Grade

Did you know that the tallest index card tower ever made by kids was over thirty-three in tall? Well, my fifth grade class did the same thing. It was just that the tallest tower in our class was only fourteen and a half inches tall. Read my blog post to find out about similar fun things we did during the first week of school. I will also tell you about what things I am looking forward to doing this year.

Two things I enjoyed during the first week of school are the Index Card Challenge and the Identity Map. The Index Card Challenge was where you were given a hundred index cards and you had to build the tallest tower possible in fifteen minutes. We worked by tables. I really enjoyed this challenge because it helped us think strategically and we had to control our frustration whenever our tower fell. For example, we had two towers going because if one fell, we could just continue with the other one. The Identity Map was where you were given a square piece of paper and you had to write what you think identifies you. I really liked it because it shows people who you are. For example, I play tennis so I put “tennis players” as one of my things.

Two things I’m really looking forward to this year are Field day and the Challenge Course Trip. Field day is a day at the end of the year where all the fifth grade classes go out on the field and we play different games. I’m looking forward to it because there’s going to be a tug-of-war at the end and everyone’s going to have to help with it. An example of another game is Capture the Flag. The Challenge Course Trip is where you have a team of people and you have to get from one side of the obstacle to the other. I’m really excited about this because I really want to work cooperatively with my teammates. An example is if someone has to climb a wall and if the previous person doesn’t help them, it will be really hard for that person to climb it.

In conclusion, the first week of school was really fun and I am confident that the rest of the year will be very busy, but also really fun. In this blog post I wrote about what I did the first week of school and what I’m looking forward to this year. Have you ever done anything I mentioned in this article? Did you think it was fun?
