Capstone blog post #4

Working on my script was really hard for me because I kept having to redo it until I felt that I liked it

Getting feedback was really nice because my classmates would give me feedback which would help me a lot make it better. Each time my classmates gave me feedback it would make my presentation better. I listened to what they said and whatever they said I should fix, I did. it made my presentation so much better because of my classmates giving e feedback.

Presenting in front of my class was really scary because I was pretty nervous but each time I presented I got more comfortable as I went on. I really like presenting now because I have started to make my presentation better and I have been getting more confident while presenting to my class because nobody is going to judge anyone they will just give feedback and help make it better so now I love presenting!

Photos are really hard to find because they have to match what I am saying because I really want my Capstone to be really good because this is my last project so I am trying to make it my best. The photos also have to be high quality and in creative commons license because you can’t steal photos from other people.

Timing is going really well for me because my presentation is around four minutes and thirty seconds which is a perfect timing for me. I am really happy with my timing because when I timed it myself it was only three minutes and twenty two seconds. I was really happy when I found out it was over four minutes.

Rehearsing is going well too because I rehearse at school, at home and even at mask break. I have almost memorized my whole presentation which I am really glad about. I rehearse in front of many of my friends while they read my flash cards or just read my speaker notes in my presentation.

Memorizing is going pretty well. I have memorized almost my whole script. I am so happy because I memorized most of it by just reading it a lot but I have also rehearsed a lot. All my hard work is really paying off now and i am so happy that I finally get to do Capstone because I always have wanted to do Capstone and have been thinking about it ever since I knew it was a thing from my sister and my brother because they would always talk about it and I am so exited to finally finish it and record for Mr. Casal to put up on Heathcote Gateway.

I am so excited to finally finish and finally record! I hope when Mr. Casal posts my Capstone everyone will like it!

Here is my presentation.

Capstone Blog Post #3

I have worked on my essay to answer my main inquiry question. My essay helped me rite my script because I was able to summarize all my information into it. It took a while but it’s finally done, here it is!

According to a May 2017 survey of American consumers, 41 percent of Americans between the ages of 30 and 59 years wear makeup on a daily basis, and 25 percent wear makeup several times per week. It is not surprising that a large number of people wear makeup. Physical benefits include being able to minimize skin imperfections and enhance facial features. Psychological benefits include that makeup makes the wearer feel more attractive and it can also be a fun outlet for self expression.

Physical benefits of wearing makeup include hiding imperfections and accentuating other features. Certain makeup productions such as concealer and foundation help minimize skin imperfections. Concealer is used to lighten and minimize smaller sections that a person wants to minimize. For example, concealer can be used under a person’s eyes to make dark circles less visible. It could be used on scars and blemishes to lighten them, too. Foundation is made in many different skin colors so a person is usually able to find one that matches their skin color. The foundation is usually applied after the concealer to create a smooth base that evens out a person’s complexion before adding on makeup with color. Other types of makeup accentuate a person’s features. For example, eye liner and mascara are used to make a person’s eyes stand out. Adding lipstick to a person’s lips or blush to their cheeks creates a more youthful look.

Wearing makeup also has psychological benefits for the wearer who can be more confident, act smarter, and use makeup as a form of self expression. People who wear makeup report feeling more confident.  For example, in an article called, “Can Wearing Makeup Boost Cognition as Well As Confidence,” scientific studies conducted by Harvard and the University of Chieti, Italy showed that makeup “can give wearers a confidence boost by making them feel more physically attractive, increasing feelings of self-esteem, attitude, and personality.” In addition to feeling more attractive and better about themselves, the article goes on to explain that wearers can also experience boosts in their cognitive abilities, or skills that require the use of your brain. People can also use makeup as a creative outlet and way of self-expression. For example, in the Business Insider article, “6 Ways Makeup Can Actually Improve Your Mental Health,” a eating disorder therapist and body image expert describes how some of her clients use makeup as a form of self expression that also makes the wearer feel good, “By cultivating different looks, blending, mixing, and experimenting, you can practice creativity and art, which are often much-needed and encouraged past-times for those struggling with mental health.”

In conclusion, wearing makeup has physical and psychological benefits. It even, surprisingly, has benefits to a person’s cognitive abilities. What’s your opinion about makeup?

That is my essay!

Interview Reflection

The key to have a great interview is to be confident and calm. I had a great time during my interview. I learned a lot of information that I couldn’t find online. Here are my favorite questions and answers.

My favorite question and answer was, what was the most unusual makeup look you have ever done. She told me that one time for a TV show she had to make twins look different. This was very unusual in my opinion. Another favorite answer and question of mine was when I asked her how does she feel about the online makeup tutorials, she said that only sometimes she likes them because they usually have a lot of steps and she thinks that it’s very hard to do a lot of steps every day. She told me that a lot of people have came into her salon before and asked for a very long makeup look that was online.

I interviewed Devra who works at a makeup and spa salon. I was so nervous to do it and at first, I felt awkward and I thought that I was asking her too many questions. She turned out to be very nice and she seemed very comfortable which made me feel a lot better. She told me that she love doing people’s makeup and when she was done she loved seeing their smiles on their faces.

I had 12 questions that my mom and I looked over many times, she also suggested that we should do a role play where I would ask her my interview questions. This way of practicing was very good for me because I kept stuttering and my mom helped me got over that.

The person who I interviewed, Devra said that she would usually do wedding makeup or just normal everyday makeup, also party makeup that you would wear out to parties.

She said her least favorite part of her job was wearing her mask all day and having to stand all day. Since Corona Virus, she said that she isn’t able to see customers faces so it’s a bit hard to do makeup on them that will suit them without seeing there face.

When Devra and I were on Face Time for our interview she got to take off her mask because she went into a different room. She was in the salon when we were on Face Time, it seemed like she was so relieved when she took off her mask. It seemed like she had wore it for hours with no breaks.

I had 16 questions to ask her and it took me 32 minutes. I was screen recording on my I Pad and my mom was voice recording on hr phone in case it ended up not recording. I also had notes in my hand in case I wanted to jot something down.

The key to having a great interview is to engage in the conversation and be prepared to change things and record and, jot down things.

Rube Goldberg #2

My Rube Goldberg is finished! I am very happy with how my Machine came out. My video also came out well. I am very excited to present it in class tomorrow. My simple task was to feed my dog. And my machine took 32 tries.

We first used the idea from my sketch, it didn’t work out so we had to change it up a bit. It was really hard to not get upset or give up. My sister was a big help. I would want to give up a lot. She would always help me get back up and keep going.

I am happy that I have finished this project. It was a huge accomplishment for me and felt really good when this machine finally worked. I am excited to start the next project which is Capstone.

This project was definitely the most fun thought and I won’t forget it! Here is my video on YouTube.

Capstone blog post #1

I changed my topic for Capstone. I am really happy that I did because I am a lot more interested in my new question to my old one. My old question was how has special effects makeup changed over time and how can it get better, my new question is how is makeup a form of self expression and how has it impacted society? I have been interested in makeup for a while. I started to do makeup more this year and buying more products. I know a little about makeup and I would like to know more so that’s why I have chose this topic.

I am very excited to continue this project because I think that this project will be very fun. I am worried about the dates because I’m scared that I will fall behind. I have been thinking of doing makeup ever since my sister and brother did Capstone.

I think this topic will be very entertaining to me because I am very interested in makeup. My mom knows a person in the makeup industry so I might interview them and I’m going to start my research soon. I completed my sub questions yesterday from the help of my teacher.

I can’t wait to start getting all my research and putting this project together. I’m excited to start my journey.

Progress On Rube Goldberg

I have had lots of progress on my Rube Goldberg project. This is my favorite project this year by far. It is my favorite because I love the creativity. I am doing very well on the progress of my project. I am on my 7th step and I work on the machine every night. I have a lot of fun working on it. I am going to start my video soon and I am excited to start editing it. I have filmed my process of building the machine now I just need to edit the clips together. I am excited to see the result of my video. I am scared to not finish on time. I am excited to be relieved when I finish my project. My sister is being a big help, she is helping me figure out what steps should work and what steps would not. And what tools we have and what tools we don’t have. I am going to continue working on this project and to keep adding on to it.

Immigration Project

I really loved this project. Some things that were hard was finding photos, I could not find many photos that matched with what I was talking about. Another hard thing was the voice over. I had to record it many times because I kept messing up. This project made me learn many new things about my babysitter. It was very fun to see how she answered my questions and to see what her old country was like. Here is the link to her story. Keyla’s Immigration Story

My Experience

I loved this project! It was really fun to argue and see both sides. This was hard at some times because it was hard finding two best reasons. The easiest part of this was finding the evidence! my favorite part about this project was the actual debate.

Constitution Project

My topic is Voting Rights. I am doing this topic because I think everyone should having voting rights no matter skin color, religion, or gender. My sub topic is Women Voting Rights. My research question is what were the major events that led to the 19th Amendment which gave women the right to vote.  I chose this question because, I wanted to know what women did to get voting rights. I can’t wait to start this project!

Good and Bad Things of 2020.

2020 oh what a year. Here are some times where I wanted to cry. First to start it my grandma died. that was in march, a few days later Covid 19 started. schools were locked down, we were also locked down which meant no friends no shopping and we had to do online school. Let me tell you that online school was horrible. it was so stressful we had 50 assignments due the end of each day. And trump was not doing anything about Covid. By the time America had 500,000 cases New Zealand had 1. Everyone thought 2020 was going to be like a movie they were right it was a very scary movie. But now since 2020 is almost over hopefully Biden will do us better in 2021. Some good things about 2020 were after a while I could see my friends. And Biden became president. I also got to spend a lot of time with my family. Over all 2020 was a roller coaster.
