Hi, I’m Noah, and being Heathcotes president is a big responsibility. However if I got the job, here are some changes I would make to the school’s schedule.

The first thing you should know about me is that since I’m a student here and have a brother and sister that went and are here, I know what kids want. What I wrote in this what I think is a fair share between what kids want and what adults and teachers want.

Now, with me being Heathcotes president, there would be a couple changes I would make to help the school. First, to me the most important change I would make is every afternoon, I would make time for another snack. I’m not saying we should go outside again like in the morning, but sometimes in the afternoon I can get hungry and that could affect my mood throughout the day and I think a quick snack would help make students happier which helps them get their school work done.

The second change I’d make is I would let kids use their Chromebook during indoor recess for games that the teachers tell us are ok and appropriate to play during the recess. Reason being kids always thought indoor recess was boring, with this no kid will ever think of indoor recess as boring again.

Last but not least, I would make every class have a movie period or a period of extra recess. Obviously I wouldn’t just give extra recess, I would make them work for it meaning when they work good and quietly, they will get closer to their special day.

As you can see these minor tweaks to how the school would run would make students way happier and wouldn’t really affect our learning that much. What would you do if you were Heathcotes president? How would your ideas be different from mine?

Board of Legislators Reflection

Did you know that the Board of Legislators was made around the year 1700! That’s over 300 years ago! The crazy thing is that’s only one reason I thought that this was awesome. I also didn’t realize how big and fancy the Board of Legislators was and how many cool rooms they have there! I loved it. After you read this, I’ll assure you, you will agree with me.

Recently I went to the Board of Legislators. What I loved the most is that we got to speak into the microphone. I loved it because when I talked into it, it sounded so loud and weird. Luckley that happened to everyone so I didn’t sound so awkward. But that was only one of the cool things that happened! The second cool thing that happened was the mock meeting in the committee room. It was cool because I felt like an important person when I sat in the thair that the legislatures sit in. Another reason is because after the mock meeting almost everyone (including me) asked to grab a mint and everyone that did, got one.

There were some really cool and surprising things that I learned about on the trip. One of the most interesting things that happened was during the trip I learned what it actually looked like to be in a (mock) meeting about school uniforms and if kids should wear them, I never in a million years thought it would be a (small) room where visitors could watch! Also, I never knew that there were 17 districts in scarsdale! I always thought there were two or three because four schools (including mine) only took up one district. Last but not least, I thought that since this place had been here since 1700 or somewhere around then, I definitely thought the first legislator was dead by now. Apparently the first ever legislator is turning 100 sometime this year! To me, that’s impressive.

As you can see, I recommend this place to anyone that wants to have fun and learn but to also see what it actually looks like to help them understand. Imagine what it would be like to actually be a legislator. How much different would it feel than going there as a visitor or guest?

New Year Here

When you were in fifth grade were you excited? Well I’m currently in the first week of fifth grade and I’ll tell you I’m having a blast! Today I’m going to tell you my favorite activities from week one all the way to what I’m looking forward to later this year.

In the first week of school I’ve had a fun time, to prove it to you, I’ll tell you my highlights of the week. First, what I loved the most was probably the index card challenge. The index card challenge is where your teacher gives you 100 index cards. You and your table build a tower of index cards. Your goal is to make your tower as tall as possible. I remember once when I was looking at table three, I almost fainted. It was so so so tall! At the end they measured it, it was two feet! Ours was three fourths of a foot! We didn’t even have much time to make it. Something else I found fun was where we build a rectangular prism out of 48 unit cubes. you would use an equation before you started. A funny story that happened while I was doing it was when I was making it on my first attempt, I looked at everyones structures and mine looked like their kids. I was so not confident, turns out I was right and theirs were wrong. As you can see, I hope to keep having a good time for the rest of the year to come.

This year lots of fun and exciting activities are coming up because I’m a fifth grader, here are some of my favorites. I’m going to say something that I like even though not everybody will agree with it. I’m excited for our stars and the solar system science unit. I think it will be really fun to learn everything in our solar system and I will be able to use this knowledge when I’m older. Another exciting event is hot dog field day, the reason being I can run around, play football, play basketball, and I get to eat a delicious hot dog with mustard, lets just hope I don’t get a cramp! Here’s something that I will never do again with any school. After school on Halloween, everyone in fifth grade will go back to the school and I heard it’s really fun! Now you can see why I’m excited for fifth grade.

As you can see I’ve had a great time with all the activities and I look forward to the year to come. When you were in fifth grade what did you enjoy? What were your favorite activities?

Coach Marvin is the best coach

My persuasive essay is about my basketball coach marvin. During this project I learned that it is harder to record than I thought. Also my favorite part of this project was writing my essay. My least favorite part was when we copied and pasted for our different slides. I think this project was hard and easy, it was hard because there were no pictures of my topic. It was easy because for writing it all I had to do was think about my topic and write it. I would like to thank Adobe express for letting me use their resources.

 

Literary Essay – Those Shoes

In the book Those Shoes by Maribeth Boelts, Jeramy is determined to get the black  hightops with white stripes.  One example is that in the beginning of the story Jeremy goes home and hotels his grandmother about the shoes. His grandmother tells him that he needs winter boots. 

 

But Jeremy is so determined, and he goes to three different thrift shops to look for those shoes. For example in the text it says “We ride the bus to the first thrift shop” and we ride the bus to the second thrift shop. This shows that Jeremy is determined because he goes all over town looking for those shoes.

 

Finally at the last thrift shop Jeremy finds those shoes. Jeremy tries the shoes and finds out that they don’t fit and he wishes that his toes will fall off. Another reason that shows that Jeremy is determined is that he tells his grandmother “they’re okay.” This all tells me that Jeremy is determined to get the shoes even if they don’t fit.

 

All this show that Jeremy is determined to get the shoes because he he is willing to go all over town

My Expert Book – NBA Teams

Six weeks ago we started to learn about nonfiction.  Then my teachers told me we will write an expert book. I thought, “What shall this book topic be about?”  I started to think about sports. I thought basketball is my favorite sport, why don’t I write something about that. I started with NBA Players for the table of contents, but my writing partner was doing that.  So I had a back up plan for the specific NBA Teams. I organized it by best team to least, Chicago Bulls, to the Golden State Warriors, to the New York Knicks.  I realized I needed more information on my expert book. I learned to research my topic by reading books on Epic. My favorite part doing this project was writing about Michael Jordan because I had a lot to talk about. I also learned how to link and how to line the texts up and photos.  During the process, I learned that nonfiction texts have true facts, headings, chapters, dedication page, how to insert a photo, and how to add captions. Also, I learned that I’m a lot better at typing on a computer than I thought. I feel good that I finally published the book because I was nervous that it wouldn’t be good, but it turned out okay.

Bird Crash

One sunny afternoon I asked my papa, “Can I go on a bike ride?” I’ve been wanting to go on a bike ride in Florida for so long. When ever I come to his apartment I never get to go on a bike ride, so I was hoping he would say yes.

A little bit later I told him, “I really want to go.”

Then a little later he said,  “I think we can bike ride.”

I was dazzled. I wonder where we will go?

I didn’t know many places to go.

A little bit later he ran down stairs and excitedly screamed, “Time to bike ride!” he exclaimed. A huge smile went across my face.

I ran up the stairs, got on my shoes, then I leaped on my bike.I rode on my papa’s driveway because it was a new bike that I never rode.(Also because it is good practice.)

For some reason my papa took forever to come outside.

When he came outside he got on his bike and then we started our bike ride.

About eight miles in while I am on my bike, I notice that there are signs on the sidewalk that have arrows and pictures of bikes. I was looking around in all different directions when all of a sudden a bird landed in front of me! I pressed my break so hard my bike flipped!

“Ahh!” I screamed in mid air. In a blink of an eye I hit the ground. I felt like I had scratches everywhere. I thought to myself, will I be able to ride my bike again?

My papa stopped. He was in front of me, so he turned around. He rode as fast as he could to me.

I was on the ground trying to get up.

My papa stood tall over me. He helped me up and said, “are you okay?”

“I think so,” I moaned.

“Can you ride home?” he asked.

“Let me try,” I said. It was hard but I managed to do it.

When I got home I thought, When will my next bike ride be?
