Feature Article Reflection

Have you ever done a feature article well I have and I am writing a reflection on my feature article if keep reading I will tell you all about it. I enjoyed writing my introduction the best and the hardest part of writing it was my section called big events. I enjoyed pictures the most on the formatting part and my least favorite part was putting the pictures in the right place so it would fit. Do you want to write a feature article?

My two Favorite Specials

Did you know that 450 million people in the world play basketball? And did you know that art was an Olympic event? I mentioned basketball because it is my favorite part of PE. In this blog, I talk about my 2 favorite specials Art and PE. Also what I did in those specials.  I think art is the best special. Here is what I enjoyed in art and what I learned in art . I think art is the best because you are allowed to draw whatever you want and Mr. Bentley is really nice and never yells. I also like art because their projects are fun and if they are hard Mr. Bently will help. A project that was fun was the project where I made a super bowl poster and I had the chiefs and the 49ers . In art I learned how to draw and make a blank piece of l into colorful paper. My favorite project is the one where you draw a logo. I like drawing logos. I drew the Michigan college football team logo and the Ohio college football team logo and then I colored it and I liked it.  Another special that I like is PE. Here is some stuff that I enjoyed in PE and what I learned in PE. PE is fun but there are some units they I don’t like and good units like football and basketball but bad ones are jump roping and yoga. If it is a good unit then I like PE but if it is a bad unit I don’t like it because the other things I do in PE are stuff that I don’t like and I don’t want to do them.    learn in PE to keep stamina because every time in the beginning of PE we jog for 3 minutes so it teaches us to keep stamina. I enjoy the Basketball and football unit because they are 2 of my favorite sports and you do a contest at the end of each unit for the basketball and football unit and the games are really fun.  In conclusion I talked about my 2 favorite specials and what I learned and what I enjoyed. Have you ever done PE or art?

First Week of 5th Grade

The tower is getting taller and taller then it falls and we have to restart..  1 minute you have to keep going, 30 seconds. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz it was over. I just described the Index Card Challenge that we did the first week of school. Read my blog post to see what I enjoyed doing so far the first week of school and the things I’m looking forward to doing in fifth grade.

Two things I enjoyed doing the first week are the index card challenge and the identity map. The index challenge had a couple rules.  The rules are you have 100 index cards, you have no materials, just index cards. You work in a group of four and you try to make the tallest tower of index cards and you have 15 minutes to do that. I liked the index card challenge because you had to think how to fold it and how to not make the structure fall over. I also liked it because you couldn’t make it too heavy or else it would fall over. My group used a strategy where you fold it then put layers on top but it wasn’t working so we tried a new strategy where you do even more layers and make it thicker and it worked 5 minutes left the teacher shouts 2 minutes  10 seconds 5,4,3,2,1 Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz it was over they go to the first grope they say 10 inches they go to the next group 12 inches then they go to my group 13 inches we won! . Another thing I enjoyed the first week is the identity map. I liked the identity map because you could put anything you wanted on it. I put my favorite sports teams, for example, the Eagles, Knicks and the Rangers. Another reason I liked it is you are allowed to put any drawing you want on it. I drew those teams because they are my favorite teams in sports.

Two things I am looking forward to are the hot dog field day and challenge course trip. Field day is a day at the end of the year where you do fun games outside like capture the flag tug-of-war and more. Classes compete against each other to see who is the winner. It is called hot dog field day because for lunch we get hot dogs. I like sports so I am excited. The challenge course trip is a field trip that has challenge courses. The challenge courses are courses that you have to get over obstacles. I’m excited because I’m getting over obstacles and figuring them out.

In summary there are many fun things we did this year and are going to do this year.

Do you think fifth grade is fun

Pressure!

Everyone has felt pressure in their life but the worst type of pressure is when you put it on yourself. What I find most challenging is sports and academics.

For example, when you play a sport like I do you get pressure on yourself. An example is once I was playing flag football and I was the QB (QuarterBack) of my team and all the players rely on you. In the first playoff game I was the starter and the first drive was so pressuring because I didn’t want to throw a pick because I didn’t want to let my team down. So I took some breaths and I got on the field. I feel a lot of pressure when throwing a touchdown because I have to go the whole field without throwing bad passes or picks. Another rule is you get sacked in 4 seconds so you have to throw the ball in 4 seconds or it is a loss of down. That’s not a lot of time! I threw a touchdown!

Another example is once I had a math test and I put so much pressure on myself and I was sweating. I thought I was going to mess up and get a question wrong. And it was really bad because I thought I had to get every single question right, but I should’ve thought that there is no pressure and just do it. However, I got pressured and I got some things wrong.

I realize that people should try to not feel pressure because it could affect how you play a sport or in academics. That’s why pressure is challenging.

Persuasive Writing

Essay

You might be thinking kids need homework! But the truth is it is unhealthy for kids to work more after school when they already worked a full day. Most adults don’t even do that! Let’s get rid of homework for good!

One reason that kids should not have homework is because it stresses kids out. For example if it is late at night and you want to go to sleep but you have to do your homework and then you will get stressed out. Stress is not good for your body and can make you sick. Another example is if you didn’t do it at night you have to do it in the morning and in the morning you are probably sleepy and don’t want to do the work you might be thinking it doesn’t matter kids can do it in the morning but they don’t have time because they wake up 7:45 it takes 5 minutes to get dressed then 5 minutes to brush your teeth and wash your face and then breakfast takes 10 minutes to make and then eating breakfast takes 10 minutes then 5 minutes to put on your shoes then it is 8:20 then you have to go and you have no time for homework! Also in the morning people seem to get stressed out and frustrated more because they are rushing around.

Kids should not have homework because kids have sports and activities. For example, if you come back from sport and you just want to chill because you’re tired you have to do your homework. Another example is if you want to play outside you can’t because you have to do your homework so you have to stay in inside do your homework then when your done you only have like 10 minutes outside you can’t do it outside because you can drop it then it will get dirty and then you can’t do it and you should be able to enjoy nature and the outdoors. Another example is if you have a sport right after school you can’t do your homework till a sport or activity is done but when a sport and activity is done you probably want to hang out with your friends but you have to go back to your house do your homework then when your done it is probably to late or your not with your friend anymore so you can’t hang out.

Kids should not have homework because you can’t spend time with your family. For example if your grandparents come to your house and they want to hang out with you but you have to do your homework which takes like 45 minutes then you only have a few hours with them and that is not a lot and you could of had an extra 45 minutes and then you could spend more time with your grandparents. Another example is sleeping is 10 hours school is 6 hours homework is 1 hour then sports or activities which is 3 hours then you have to go to sleep and you have no time with your family and if there was no homework you would have an extra hour each day with your family and a hour each day is better than nothing and that is why there should be no homework.

You might be wondering, “my kid can complete homework and still have time for sports and spending time with family.” You might be right but that doesn’t reduce the stress that kids feel and how kids should really just spend time being kids! They’re only young once! Homework needs to be eliminated!

Reflection

I learned to use a persuasive voice when I say you should appreciate him or there should be no that. I enjoyed typing it and I enjoyed recording. I picked my topic because I think kids do so much work at school they don’t need to give homework.

My Expert Book: Basketball

I came up with the idea to make a book about basketball because basketball was the first sport I ever played and because it is my favorite sport. The part that was most difficult for me was thinking of ideas and chapter names and subtitles names because it was hard to predict what the chapter would really be about. I needed the most help with the glossary because I only had 2 days and I needed to work on other stuff. I learned that maybe I need to manage my time a little better. My favorite part was linking the chapters to the page and the words to the glossary. I also enjoyed creating the cover page.

This is my expert book.

Thank you for reading.

Personal Narrative – Splash

“Do you want to go to surf camp?” Mom asked.

“YES!” Charlotte and I screamed at the same time. We were so excited to go to surf camp.

It was a hot and windy day when we finally arrived at the beach in New Jersey. I smelled the salty ocean water and I couldn’t wait to get out there. As we walked closer we saw two instructors, one for me and one for Charlotte.

“Hi,” one of the instructors said.

“Hi,” Charlotte replied. I was too busy looking at the ocean to notice the instructor was talking to me.

“Today I’m going to teach you how to catch a wave,” the instructor said.

We started on the beach learning how to get on board. “Put your knees on the board, then put your left hand on the board and then pull yourself up and then stand and keep your balance.”

After we practiced on the beach, the instructor asked, “do you want to try it in the ocean?”

“YES!” we screamed, we were so excited as we ran to the ocean.

We started catching waves and we weren’t slipping all over when suddenly, I looked over and saw Charlotte caught a huge wave. It was like 10 feet tall. She got up on the board and I thought she would stay up but then, I saw her slipping. She went nose first, right into the water.

“Oh no, Charlotte!” I said to myself. I wondered if she was ok. Just then, she poped out of the ocean and she was bursting with tears. I ran over to her as fast as I could.

“Are you ok?” I asked nervously.
“I think I’m bleeding on my nose,” she said as she grabbed her face. “My nose she groaned.”

The blood was gushing out of her nose. “That’s disgusting,” I thought to myself. I couldn’t say it out loud because it would have worried my sister.

“Do you need a tissue?” I asked my sister.

“Ok,” she moaned quietly. “Let’s go see mom.” We ran to our mom.

Mom said, “what happened to you guys?”

“I fell off the surfboard and I got a bloody nose,” Charlotte replied.

“Are you ok?” mom asked.

“Yeah, we’re ok mom,” we said. Mom was so relieved that know one got hurt that bad.

“Do you still want to surf?” she asked.

“Ok, I’ll try again,” Charlotte said as she grabbed her surfboard and she ran to the ocean. Charlotte caught another wave and she didn’t slip this time. She stood up and was amazing. I was so proud of her.

That night when we got back to the beach house, I went right to my bed, so tired from surfing that day. I thought about the day that we had and how amazing it was. I couldn’t wait to do it again!
