“Do you want to go to surf camp?” Mom asked.
“YES!” Charlotte and I screamed at the same time. We were so excited to go to surf camp.
It was a hot and windy day when we finally arrived at the beach in New Jersey. I smelled the salty ocean water and I couldn’t wait to get out there. As we walked closer we saw two instructors, one for me and one for Charlotte.
“Hi,” one of the instructors said.
“Hi,” Charlotte replied. I was too busy looking at the ocean to notice the instructor was talking to me.
“Today I’m going to teach you how to catch a wave,” the instructor said.
We started on the beach learning how to get on board. “Put your knees on the board, then put your left hand on the board and then pull yourself up and then stand and keep your balance.”
After we practiced on the beach, the instructor asked, “do you want to try it in the ocean?”
“YES!” we screamed, we were so excited as we ran to the ocean.
We started catching waves and we weren’t slipping all over when suddenly, I looked over and saw Charlotte caught a huge wave. It was like 10 feet tall. She got up on the board and I thought she would stay up but then, I saw her slipping. She went nose first, right into the water.
“Oh no, Charlotte!” I said to myself. I wondered if she was ok. Just then, she poped out of the ocean and she was bursting with tears. I ran over to her as fast as I could.
“Are you ok?” I asked nervously.
“I think I’m bleeding on my nose,” she said as she grabbed her face. “My nose she groaned.”
The blood was gushing out of her nose. “That’s disgusting,” I thought to myself. I couldn’t say it out loud because it would have worried my sister.
“Do you need a tissue?” I asked my sister.
“Ok,” she moaned quietly. “Let’s go see mom.” We ran to our mom.
Mom said, “what happened to you guys?”
“I fell off the surfboard and I got a bloody nose,” Charlotte replied.
“Are you ok?” mom asked.
“Yeah, we’re ok mom,” we said. Mom was so relieved that know one got hurt that bad.
“Do you still want to surf?” she asked.
“Ok, I’ll try again,” Charlotte said as she grabbed her surfboard and she ran to the ocean. Charlotte caught another wave and she didn’t slip this time. She stood up and was amazing. I was so proud of her.
That night when we got back to the beach house, I went right to my bed, so tired from surfing that day. I thought about the day that we had and how amazing it was. I couldn’t wait to do it again!
