Treasure hunt

Today I went around my house and gathered a bunch of items such as pencils, books, paper, cardboard and plastic. After I found all these item I used the book as a base because they are the strongest of all the materials. I folded the paper to make it more stable so it wouldn’t crumple. I took the rest of the materials and stacked them up against each other and I made a tower out of all of the different materials.

1st week of quarantine

The 1st week of quarantine was interesting and confusing. When we all got the email saying school was canceled and we should be social distancing, no one really knew what that meant. After everyone realized no one should be with other people, other than your family. To stay busy I have been playing basketball in my driveway and going on bike rides. It feels weird to be away from school for this amount of time but I’m sure we will get used to it.

This week in tech we started to design a box and at first I was just going to do a normal box with hinges. But then after I thought i decided to make a surprise box. A surprise box is when you make a box that has 2 channels on the side and you have a slide that goes in between them and than you attach a spider or something scary so when they open it it jumps at them. After we designed it we shaved wood with a hand plane.

Tech 7- screws

Yesterday in tech we screwed nails into pieces of wood. In order to do this we had to find a screwdriver that matched the nail. Their were multiple nails and screw drivers. When I found the right one it was easy to get the nail into the wood, all I had to was line up the screwdriver and turn it to the right. But first I had to use an awl to get an initial hole in the wood because if I didn’t the screw would just fall over and not stay in balance. When I was able to screw in multiple screw it made me feel good about myself.

thank you.

Tech post #6 – Diagrams

In tech we are making flashlights out of pipes and wires but first before we can actually start to make it we have to make diagrams. The diagrams are very important in making the flashlights because everything has to be exactly right. First you measure the pipes you are going to use and draw them to scale on your diagram, then comes the hard part. You have to measure what size the wires need to be in order to fit in the pipe so you have to measure that to scale and draw it, then you have to put a switch, battery and LED light bulb which is your circuit that will light up the light bulb.

Ryan,

An Introduction to Life for Children living on Alcatraz

Hi,

Recently I have been studying what life was like for children living on Alcatraz and there is a lot of interesting facts that I did not know. I didn’t even know that children lived on Alcatraz until I read the Al Capone Does My……. series by Gennifer Choldenko. If you want to know more about this series than click here.

If you do not know what Alcatraz is then I will tell you. Alcatraz was a prison just off the coast of San Francisco Bay and the prison hosted some of the worst prisoners in the world, such as Al Capone, Machine Gun Kelly and Robert Stroud. The island was once a army base from 1907-1933 and then was turned into a prison in 1934 and lasted until 1963.

I look forward to blogging more about this topic.

Buddy Artwork

This is a picture of my buddies art work. I really like what he made because it is unique and creative, I know that his pieces are always very colorful as well which made it better. I know that my buddy worked hard and stayed positive while making this piece. Even though he received help it is still a very good piece. I am looking forward to seeing what he makes and how he improves in the future.

Henry and Molly spent a total of five days making this, I think that spending that amount of time on a piece of art is automatically a good piece no matter what.

My Buddy

In all of our years at my elementary school we have Buddies. Now we have Kindergarten buddies. My buddies name is Henry. In our first buddy session when I met Henry, he found America on the globe and kissed it, I knew that we were going to have a good time, and I knew he was very cute. One of the things I like about him is that he is always smiling no matter what. An inspiring thing about Henry is that he doesn’t give up and he works very hard. I know that our friendship will grow over this year. I am excited to see how he changes and grows as a student because he is already a good student.

Emigration- Puerto Rico

Here are some of the reasons that people leave Puerto Rico

Most of the people today are leaving Puerto Rico because of the hurricanes that have hit and caused a lot of damage to the land and the people. The hurricanes have injured and killed citizens. Another reason that Puerto Ricans left their country is because they wanted to get a better life, they wanted money, opportunity homes and a better future for their kids.
