The Sight Visit #4

The site visit was my second favorite part of capstone so far. As for my interview, it was at the same place, 107.1 the peak and my tour guide was the same Scarsdale’s number one DJ, Jimmy Fink. I did not learn as much as the interview but it was all a success.

107.1 The Peak

I went there for the info I always wanted to go somewhere for school I like field trips and this was like one but I was in charge of it.I loved it tough and I hope there’s more.

I saw the transmitter. Which is when they are done editing the file of their voice and ready to put on the air they put that file into the transmitter and plays on 107.1 The Peak, that radio station pacifically also shares the tower with the police, but radio towers are shared though. I also saw the CD room when they used to use CD’s it was pretty amazing it was probably an 11-foot wide room and on the wall was covered in shelves full of CDs and another that took up half of the room also covered in CD’s it was the most CD’s I ever saw.

I also saw the cubicles for salesman to sit and I thought they were cool , I wondered what do the salesman do and what do they sell if they work for a radio station but I never asked, so I never got an answer but that’s one of my least concerns because it was not related to my topic though. My site visit was amazing and I really really hope to have more experiences like that.

The Interview #3

The interview so far is my favorite part of capstone. For my interview I chose Scarsdale’s number one DJ Jimmy Fink. It was a fun interview and sight visit, I asked him mostly personal questions, but I got a lot of information.  I learned about the studio itself and  about him as a DJ. I learned how in college he got a job as a DJ and how that started his career, he said tech changed a lot in the studio and made his job easier.

Jimmy says he likes his job a lot and it is not that hard, but he said he would not recommend the job though. He did tell me he is never live he records in advance so he can edit his recording and make it the best it can be like I heard him record him for the radio and it will stream in June.

It was so fun and he had amazing stories about his life, he said what’s good about the studio is theres only 12 people that work there unlike others, others have up to 50.

He also said how they play a lot new songs and do no repeat, but the CD’s are now on computers due to the technology and they have on CD play but thats to upload them to the computer. Jimmy also told me about segways and sweeper, which are 5 second pauses between songs.  They use them when people hear their radio they would always know what station they were listening to. Segways are just the song comes right after the other with no sweeper. He said that interviews are not at the studio. They are on the phone or they go to the person. Other than that my interview was the best I could imagine. I loved it and I hope to have more memories like this.
