Preparing for the Immigrant Interview – Interview #1

This week, I started to prepare for my Immigrant Interview. I had to figure out things like what questions to ask, who should I interview, and thinking of where I should interview the interviewee, or what should I tape the interview with.

First, I had to think of the questions. Most of them had to be open-ended questions, which are questions that you say many sentences to answer, so that I could get a lot of material to put in my slide. To think of really good questions was pretty hard, but I made some regular ones and revised them, so it turned out fine.

At first, Mrs. Edwards said we should do some older relatives like our grandparents, but I couldn’t do that because they can only speak Chinese, and they only immigrated to America because my parents did, so I decided to do my dad.

Lastly, I had to think about the smaller aspects of the interview like where should I take the interview, in which I chose to take it in the dining room, because the lighting there was good and there was a table. I also chose to take the interview on my parents’ phones, so I could tape 2 angles of the interview.

Overall, thinking of the good questions was the hardest, but the other parts were pretty simple.
