Grade 7 Technology #1 – Timber Harvest

Hello there!

This is Technology for 7th Grade.

Today I saw three videos about how wood is cut and is made into lumber. I will compare each of them. The first video was an old one that was about cutting redwood trees, which are really tall and take a lot of effort to cut. Things that I noticed was that there was less machinery and a lot more people cutting the tree compared to the other two videos, mainly because this video is a lot older than the other two, which were more recent. However, there were many similarities in the three videos as well. They all had common main steps, which are cutting the tree down, shipping them to the sawmill, and cutting it into lumber. These were the very basic steps, and for each video they were a little different. For example, cutting redwood trees is a lot harder than normal wood so the workers took longer, and with more machinery like in the more recent videos, cutting wood is much faster and takes less people. The only questions I have is that I do not know just how long it takes to cut down a redwood tree, because I have never seen one before, and I also want to know how much does redwood cost.

My next post will be in about a week or so.
