Capstone Blog Post #2

This interview aimed to find an expert on your capstone topic and get loads of information for it. I felt very relaxed in terms of the research project.

I had to determine who to interview by thinking about who would be an expert on my topic. I thought of interviewing either an MTA worker or an NYC transit museum worker. I made the decision by thinking about how to contact them. For an MTA worker, I don’t even know how to contact them but with a transit museum worker, I could walk right up to him and say “excuse me” I need to ask you some questions. The process of writing my questions was a little challenging.

I conducted the interview in person. It was a new experience because I never conducted an interview before with a person I did not know. It did go as expected because he answered all my questions clearly and constantly. My new learnings are that there are not every single line in the subway due to similarities with other characters.

I think my interview and interview progress went great!

Capstone Blog Post #1

Capstone is a HUGE project where the Scarsdale 5th Graders have to pick a topic they are interested in and research and interview an expert on that topic. Then once they are done researching and completed their interview, they have to either take all the information they learned they can or make one WeVideo, one Adobe Creative Cloud, One Ignite, or one TedTalk. I feel that the project takes a lot of hard work and effort but it will be good in the end.

I came up with my topic by choosing a topic that I was interested in and I choose the NYC Subway System. I choose this topic because I am interested in it and it is a famous system so it should have a lot of information in it.

I came up with my main inquiry question by taking what I know about the NYC Subway and I wondered what I did not know as well. Then I came up with my main inquiry question which is “How Has Technology affected the safety of the NYC Subway System and how could it be improved?”

Came up with my subquestions was challenging because I had to think and push my brain out of the limits very hard. I had lots of trouble in the first place because my subquestions are like one-word answers. But Mrs.Robert revised my questions and they looked good. Some of my subquestions areWhat was the NYC Subway like before the use of advanced technology?” and What are the basic statistics of the NYC Subway?

Overall, Capstone has been a great project. I’m excited to see what’s next and my final project!
