Capstone Blog Post 3

Blog Post 3

I finished my research and had an on-site interview with a NY transit museum worker. My research experience was pretty amazing, I had COVID 19 mid-way so I had to catch up because I missed a week of school.  After that, I had to catch up and finish my research.

Then I finished all the learning and had to put everything into either an Ignite, Tedtalk, WeVideo, or Adobe Spark. I chose to do an Adobe Spark. I had to first have to write my script before I could even make the movie. I tried to write my script based on the requirements, but I did not succeed that well because it did not really share what I learned in the research. I wrote to make it sound like I learned something. But my script did not meet the 2 to 6-second requirement. So I had to rush through what I said to meet the requirements. However, when I rushed it sounded like nobody understood what I was saying. Then I had to trim down the script so I am able to say it clearly in 6 seconds.

Then I put everything into my movie. Making my movie was pretty hard because It had to be better.  Overall it was a great experience and I learned how to do a good capstone project.

Capstone Blog Post #2

This interview aimed to find an expert on your capstone topic and get loads of information for it. I felt very relaxed in terms of the research project.

I had to determine who to interview by thinking about who would be an expert on my topic. I thought of interviewing either an MTA worker or an NYC transit museum worker. I made the decision by thinking about how to contact them. For an MTA worker, I don’t even know how to contact them but with a transit museum worker, I could walk right up to him and say “excuse me” I need to ask you some questions. The process of writing my questions was a little challenging.

I conducted the interview in person. It was a new experience because I never conducted an interview before with a person I did not know. It did go as expected because he answered all my questions clearly and constantly. My new learnings are that there are not every single line in the subway due to similarities with other characters.

I think my interview and interview progress went great!

Overall this project was amazing! I had to choose between Adobe Creative Cloud Express (Formally Adobe Spark) or WeVideo. I chose Adobe Creative Cloud Express because I thought it would be cool to try a new video software platform. I had to find some photos of the immigrant I interviewed for this video. Fortunately, I had some photos but not all of the photos I needed. I created my video on Adobe Creative Cloud Express and I tried to make the video the best one I can. I tried to make this video sound like a story of my father coming to the USA for a better life and not like me reading a script. It would be nice if Adobe allowed me to use transitions in the video but they did not so it would make the video look good. Even with that, I managed to make a fun and interesting video. I would love to do this again.

Immigration,

I think this project was an interesting one. I had to interview an adult that was an immigrant and they had to share their immigration stories. I decided to interview my father, Yogesh Mishra because he is an immigrant and it would be easy to do the video of the interview. I had to prepare 15 questions for my immigrant to answer. The questions had to be good ones. A bad question would be, “Are you an Immigrant?”. A good question would be like, Describe how the traveling experience from your home country to the United States Of America. Then I had to interview him in person recording him as well. Overall this is was an amazing project

Rube Goldberg Reflection #2

Rube Goldberg,

My overall experience designing a Rube Goldberg machine was an interesting one. First, I had to reserch so I can get some ideas. After watching a couple YouTube videos, I was able to get an idea. I had to find the materials in my house for that idea. There were some challenges, but in the end, there were solutions to challenges. Then the big day came, I had built the machine and I was very surprised that after only 8 tries I got a successful run of the machine. For many people, it takes hours and hours for the machine to work. I barely even made a change. The only thing I changed was I swapped balls from step 1 to step 3. The ball in step 3 worked because the ball had a different weight. I learned that sometimes in life, a project may be easier than you think. If your sketch is good, you will get a good start. My experience making the video was a good one as well. I made everything look like my audience was looking at the machine and not the background items in my house.

My Reflection On Argument Debate

Argument debate,

I think this project was a very exciting one! I think I really did well on presenting the claim my teacher selected me to do. Since I was in the plastic bags group, the debate statement was “Should Plastic Bags Be Banned?” Personally, I think that plastic bags should be banned even though my teacher put me on the “we should not ban plastic bags side”. I was not that happy that I got put in that group but I just decided to live with it. I did all the research that I can on both sides, Side A, which was we should not ban side, and side B, which was we should ban side. After lots of research, I finally got my reasons. I was person A in the debate, on side A which was “We should not ban plastic bags”. I had to write the introduction and my second reason as well as counter person D from side B, which was “We should ban plastic bags”. After writing a good introduction and doing my best at countering and saying the second reason, I thought I could do it in the real debate. The day came and I did my best I can. I think that this was an interesting project even though I got picked on the side I never wanted.

Rube Goldberg Reflection #1

Rube Goldberg,

I think this project is very interesting and it took a lot of work. There was not that much research available so I have to be creative. I had to plan how this contraption would work and how it would work perfectly. The requirements for building this machine were 8 or more steps and at least 3 simple machines. The machine had to “do something simple” at the last step, like turn on a light or shoot a basketball in a hoop or something simple to do. The main resource I used was YouTube and some Rube Goldberg videos, the 19 yr old one called “Sprice – On Americas Got Talent” and the kid Noah’s example and the kid Matthew’s example. These helped me get an idea. My idea was to turn on a fan at the end. The process was a lever with a ball that hits Janga blocks, which will hit a tennis ball down an inclined plane, the ball will hit the pot, the pot will hit some Diary Of Wimpy Kid Books, Those books will hit Thomas The Train, That train will hit some Minecraft books and the Minecraft books will press the button on the surge protector and that will turn on the fan. I had to think about what I had in my home to do this. It was frustrating when I did not have a surge protector with a good button. Then I solved the issue by using one with a good button. I also had to find some inclined planes so I solved that issue by using some Pringles Chip cans. I was planning to use the Tennis ball at the first step but it had to be moved to step 3 and the softball on step 3 will move to step 1 for greater force. After many tries, it worked and that was that big “Aha” moment. It made shorter times than I thought it would take, which was 100 times.

My Personal Narrative

My experience was a pretty good one. I did good revisions and had lots of detail. I put a lot of effort into it. I think I edited really well. I also made good paragraphs for example, where a new person speaks. I think I could do better by putting less detail and adding more dialogue.

Diary Of A Wimpy Kid – Book Review

Diary Of The Wimpy Kid – Wrecking Ball by Jeff Kinney is the 14th book of the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid Series. The main character Greg, is the second born child of the Heffley family. So Greg’s Great Aunt Reba passes away and they get lots of Reba’s money. They used the money on a Bigger kitchen for the Heffley family’s house. But when they cut the wall that connects the addition to the house they found lots of mold that is toxic and other creatures. If you want to find out if they can stay in town or if they have to get out of town… You Must Read The Book!

I think the author is telling me that sometimes, you have to deal with the obstacles, such as the toxic mold in the walls and small rodents.

My favorite part about this book is when I found out that Greg was creative about thinking about this dream home, which looks small but all the cool and amazing stuff is underground.

I liked this story because it wasn’t just realistic. Some of the other books have a movie version of it, such as the original Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

I would recommend this book for all genders from 3rd to 6th Grade, because they have happy endings, a problem that’s big and a good solution that is happy.
