I have written a lot of pieces this year. At the beginning of the year I started writing poetry. This is an excerpt of my first personal narrative. I have worked hard to make this narrative and I hope you read this and tell me what you think of it.
I wished that I could let out all my anger on to my mom. I ran into my room while my face was all wet from my tears. Then my babysitter interrupted me. She said “Is something wrong?” Then I knew that she did not know that we were moving. I didn’t want her to go through a hard time, so I ran. I went to my room and the first thing I saw was the picture of my friends and I together next to my family picture. I took that picture and stared at it for a few minutes. I didn’t want to leave all my friends. I sat on my bed for hours thinking about if I should tell my mom that I didn’t like the idea of moving. I wondered what I would tell my friends. I wished this was all a nightmare. Then my brother came into the room, slammed the door behind him then jumped onto the bed crying. I wanted to hide my picture of my friends. I didn’t want him to talk to me about it.

I love pizza. I once ate 11 slices of pizza. When my mom cut my bangs they were tilted. I have seen a blue whale before. I love climbing trees. My brother got a segway for his birthday and I decided to ride it. So I rode it everyday until I was very good at it. I finally decided to ride around my dining table. At a sharp turn I fell backwards onto my elbow. That night we went to the hospital and the doctors said that I fractured my arm and had to wear a cast for a month. I hate raisins. I have stapled my finger. I am terrible at gymnastics.I was playing on field in London with my cousin while eating fruit strings. I accidentally dropped a piece of my fruit string, so I bent down and picked it up without looking but instead I picked up a bunch of grass and ate it. I think spiders are ugly. I love Italian food. When I was born my mom called me Anvi. Then after a few weeks she didn’t think that the name Anvi fit me so she called me Antara instead. I used to love playing dress up. In my old condo I was playing tag. Suddenly I tripped on a stone and fell. My chin cracked open, it didn’t really hurt, but it did when I got 27 stitches. When my friend and I were swinging on a tree thinking of what to do. It was not a very strong branch and it was a small tree. When my friend and I were both swinging on a tree then the tree `made a loud crack noise. We ran away before the tree could fall. We walked back and we saw a beautiful tree lying on the ground. No one knew we did it. I love yogurt, I eat it with almost everything. I hate cats.

This is Singapore
I am very excited to be in a new school this year. I have recently moved from Singapore. I am exited to meet new friends and experience a new life here. So far my life here has been great in New York. I have made many friends I loved tennis and I have joined a sports club and go there twice a week. I look forward to spending my time in a new town.
Before moving here I loved my time in Singapore. I had many friends and had a lot of fun with them. When my mom told me I was moving I was shocked. I couldn’t believe that I had to leave Singapore. I loved how everything was less than ten minutes away and I loved the view from my apartment.
This year in fifth grade I am excited about Capstone. I am exited about Capstone because I love creating things that I can share. For Capstone I think I will be talking about a charity because there is a lot to say about charities and I want to help out in one. I am also really excited about going to Ellis Island. I am excited about this because I have never been. Also I am excited about studying immigration because it sounds like an exciting topic.
I am excited to study and volunteer for a charity. Mr. B says that when you work in a charity you feel good. I have always wanted to work in one and I hope to do so this year. I think helping out in a charity will be fun.
My goals in school this year is to become a stronger reader because before fifth grade I was not a strong reader and used to read very slowly. I also want to be able to solve difficult word problems because I used to find word problems challenging. Now I will try to grow in solving word problems. I also want to be able to write using more powerful words. I want to do this because I want to make my writing stronger. Another goal I would like to achieve is to settle in to America and to have several friends by the end of the year.
Something I enjoyed this year was going to Northern Westchester BOCES challenge course. I enjoyed this because we did many challenging activities. Also I liked going to the Northern Westchester BOCES challenge course because we had to work together as a team to compete the activities. When we worked together we were able to finish the course faster. I think I learned a lot from this experience. I also loved going to BOCES because it was super fun.
Another thing I enjoyed this year was to be able to go to the Westchester Board of Legislators. I liked this because we got to see a legislator that represents all of my town. His name was Benjamin Boykin. I also learned a lot from this experience. I liked how we were able to pretend that we were legislators and we were able to discuss the topic. I also liked this experience because we were able to learn a lot about how a law was made.
