Rube Goldberg Blog Post #2

Rube Goldberg Blog Post #1

A few weeks ago my teacher assigned us a Rube Goldberg project. Well, you might know what a Rube Goldberg is from my other blog post but if you don’t, a Rube Goldberg is a machine that does simple tasks in a complex way using chain reactions. I will be telling you about my resources, final sketch, and video.

For my resources, I used Joseph’s machines, Past students’ videos, and Pulleys at Work by Dawn Lamacchia. Joseph’s machines’ videos were so cool that I wanted to make my machine cool. Coming up with ideas was hard for me. I kept thinking that all the ideas I wanted to make Rube Goldberg were taken because I wanted mine to be unique. So I chose to turn on the faucet which later became annoying. My friends were also helpful when coming up with ideas. My mom was amazingly helpful because she gave me great ideas of what to do and how to do it because she had to help my sister do a Rube Goldberg in the past so she knew what to do

My final is different from my first because it’s a lot smaller and it only does one thing. For example, I was giving myself soap but I didn’t have time so I just chose to turn the faucet on. Another way my sketch is different from my first is because I made changes to make sure my Rube Goldberg would successfully work. In my final, I had printed out the steps and had put a number for each step so in my drawing I could put the number which step is what.

For my video, I had to do it in two days. It was also hard to edit because I had 48 attempts. So I had to choose between all the attempts. I didn’t put that much music in because I wanted them to hear all the domino effects in the recording. I also put a picture up and narrate it and explain what it was and what I did. Editing for me was the most challenging. But I enjoyed it. I am proud of the video even though it might not be the best quality.

In conclusion, this was a really fun project and I am so excited for the next science project. I am also really proud of myself for making my Rube Goldberg. I hope you will make your own and if you do enjoy it!
