The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe #2

The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe

In the book, “The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe” by C.S Lewis, Edmund has been supporting the White Witch, despite the fact that his siblings and Mr and Mrs. Beaver have all said they knew the White Witch is bad. I think a reason Edmund has been helping the White Witch at all is because he is power hungry and wants to be more important than his siblings.

I think Edmund’s power hungriness is turning him into a more selfish and spiteful person than he already is. One example of this is when Mr. Beaver was telling his siblings and him about Aslan and how he had returned, Edmund decided to betray his siblings because he wanted to be the king, have more power over his siblings and eat more Turkish Delight. He would do this to get back at his siblings for calling him names and being mad at him. Edmund also wants to follow the witch because of Turkish Delight. He is still under the witch’s spell, but it is weakening with the return of Aslan. I think the author chose Edmund to be controlled by the White Witch because with all the commotion about his siblings being mean to him and him being mean to Lucy, he has reasons to get back at his siblings with the witch. Edmund has a personality that works for this story.

Edmund is really not only power hungry, but his traits bring out his inner dragon, too. For example, Edmund’s spitefulness is shown when he is mean to Lucy and decides to betray his siblings. Edmund is also shown being evil with his betrayal toward his siblings. I think Edmund was really the “mean” character in this book.
