@home Projects

For my @home project, I decided to make something out of Legos because I have a ton of them so I am able to make many different things with them. What I realized when going through all my legos is that I found a set that was broken and some of the pieces were missing. It was a car, so I just needed some wheels and stuff, and I should be able to make a decent car. I didn’t have the book with all of the directions with it, so I sort of put together the pieces of the set as well as others to make it seem ordinary or natural. Also my past experiences also helped me to build it as well.

Building the wheels was simple, found a long rectangle like piece and attached wheels to it.

Started to build on top of the rectangle piece and building the middle part of the car

In the end I finished up the top and added some details to parts that seemed off or weird.

Hi

For the past few weeks, other than doing the E-Learning assignments, I have been putting more time in doing other activites. Such as, practicing my instruments, playing soccer, reading, and doing somethings that I usually don’t do. Sometimes though, I feel kind of bored at home, and I’m actually missing school a little. A problem that I have with the whole E-learning thing, is that sometimes when Schoology goes down or something, I’m unable to do some assignments. Also, the thing that really bugs me the most is that sometimes there is an assignment that might be posted late and I don’t see it.

Blog post away from school

For the most part, I’ve been doing stuff like practicing my instrument, playing soccer, doing some school work today, and reading books. Being away from school is kinda boring, because there isn’t a lot to do and I read most books in my house. Also, the school work we get assigned I don’t really want to do for I am extremely uninterested and not motivated too much. Some of the material is a little more confusing than before, and it takes me a longer time to complete the assignment. Staying home for almost the whole day indoors, males me kinda tired all of the time with not much to do. We already built the whole Hogwarts Lego set in 2 days which had a total of 6000 pieces! I guess I do have more time to do other things, but I’ve been a little lazy in my activity and hopefully the e-learning assignments will help me be more concentrated.

Technology 7 week 3

This week, we started to make measurements on a plank of wood, then cutting it according to our dimensions. We either used a saw or a mitorbox saw to cut our wood. My top was supposed to be way bigger than I needed it to be, but the difference from my height was 1 inch.  For measuring, we used a ruler to first make a mark on where we want our line to be, then we used a T-square to make our lines as straight as possible, using the 90˚ angle which the tool has. I think this week was a little difficult, because when we made our dimension and messed it up, our box would not work, for some pieces would be either to small or too big to be used. Next week, I plant on sanding my pieces of wood to make it less rough, and then we will glue our pieces together. I really enjoy Technology so far, the project is very interesting and engaging, I also like learning about new tools and how to use them.

Technology 7 week 2

This second week, we started to do more activities and we were introduced to a tool and how to use it. I am starting to be more engaged into the class activities, because there was something I could do and it found it interesting. The first required assignment that I worked on, was making a design on Tinkercad that included your name in it, like a name tag. I forgot to finish the activity the first week, but for my  name tag I didn’t put in a lot of effort but I made sure to make something that satisfied me enough.

The main activity, or probably the most important activity this week, was when we worked on our box plan. I found a little difficulty making the design, and thinking what I was going to do, but I eventually found a design that I wanted and I was able to start my design. The design on paper looked simple, but it was a little difficult to make it for you had to put in a lot of thought to make sure you box would work. Also, you had to be careful that the box wasn’t small enough to the point were you had less than 1/2 an inch of space for an item to be put into the box. I think this activity was important, because if you didn’t do this correctly, it could mess up your whole box.

The last activity that we did on Friday, Ms.Giroux  introduced us to a simple tool called a hand planer. The hand planer was used to smooth out the surface of a piece of wood, and to make sure all of the sides are even and not slanted.

Technology 7 Week 1 post

So far in tech, we have gone over some safety rules, some things we will do, and an activity  that required for us to get a screw into a piece of wood. During this activity it was very easy to get the screw in as well as out, and it was even easier when we used the vise as a third hand to hold the wood in place when I was screwing in the screw. At first I did have a little difficulty keeping the block of wood stable, but I eventually found a solution as well as many others to make things easier for us. The awls I realized had a sharp point, which is why its purpose is different from a screwdriver if though it looks similar to one. Also, I did realize how some of the screwdrivers were actually magnetic to the screws, which was sort of entertaining to find out. The screw that we had to get in were easier to get in if they were smaller, but if they were larger it was a little more difficult to get in. Some of the screws that were really long, were actually a little thin but despite their small size in width, the fact that the screw is very long requires for more effort to be put into getting it in. The pieces of wood we used, some of them were really thick and hard, when some were thin and it was easier to get a screw in for those pieces of wood. The wood that was thick and hard, it took a little longer to get the screw in and out, but I found a way that made rotating the screw quicker and more efficient, that made it not as difficult as I though it would be. To get the screw in was a little harder, as we had to get the screw in before we had to start, when we took it out it was easier for we just had to rotate the screw to the left.

Technology week 9

For about two days, everyone in the class was finishing up their flashlight projects, and those who were done just either worked on their blogs, helped others, or did another thing or something. On wednesday, Mr.Calvert introduced us to automatas, or things that run by themselves, but the ones he showed us required you to use a lever of some sort. He also showed us many unique and interesting ways to make one, and I was interested in the topic. The switch I am going to make, is going to have a lever ,that when you rotate it, it will make a thing go up and down. The person I am going to have going up and down, is Big chungus, who is basically a really big rabbit, and I am going to have a really fun time making it. There are many steps that I would have to do to finish this, and I would have to do a lot of measuring and cutting to do it. I hope to start it very soon, because there isn’t much time left in the quarter, and I want to finish the project.

technology week 8

I finished my diagram in like ten minutes, and I was able to do everything else fairly quick. The annoying thing now is that I have to wait for Mr.Calvert to help me get my switch and light bulb into my flashlight. I waited for a long time trying to do it myself, but was unsuccessful, and Mr.Calvert was still helping other students. Eventually he was able to help me and then I was done with the project. Now we just got to test it if it will last in water. I enjoyed the project, even though I had a little rough start, in the end it was all good.

Week 7 technology post

This week we started on a project, which was to build a flashlight that was 7 3/4 in wide and 6 in tall, that could fit in a box that size. Not only did it have to be that size, but it also has to be able to work underwater. At first we had to make a diagram, which is the step that we are still on, but so far I had to redo it once, and we are supposed to finish them tomorrow, and my second diagram doesn’t really have anything on it at the moment. I hope to finish my diagram on Friday, but there is a lot of work I have to do before I can finish it. What I want to do during this project is to build the flashlight, and I want to do it soon.
