Tech Blog Post #8

This is my last technology blog post. Sadly, we only have tech for one quarter of the year, and that quarter is over in a week. In this post, I’ll look back on all the projects we did this quarter.

The first project was our introduction to tech. Jewelry. First, we used pliers to create the frames and cut the metal. Then, we used the soldering irons to stick the metal together. This was a great introduction to tech. It was fun, because I felt like they were treating us more responsibly. In elementary school, they sometimes wouldn’t even let us use big scissors. But now in tech, we were using 800º rods to melt metal. It was a great project and I had a lot of fun doing it.

The next project was switches. It was kind of the project that showed us all the different tools in tech. We used the scroll saws, drill presses, pliers, awls, and mallets. It was also a pretty fun project because we were able to play a game with the switches.

The biggest project in this quarter was the flashlights. There were two parts to it. The blueprint and the actual flashlight. We learned how to draw to scale, and we also learned how a circuit works with the blueprints. With the flashlight, we used saws to cut out our own PBC pipes at the right length. We also used soldering irons to solder our circuit together. This was probably the most fun project, and the best part is now I have a working flashlight!

Our last project in the quarter is laser cutting. We got to use vectornator, which is a platform for drawing on our iPads. There are a lot of tools to use, and it was fun getting to know them all. Once your design was finished, you hooked it up to a laser cutter, and it cut everything out neatly. It was a really cool project. Using the laser cutter was fun and my design turned out really well.

Tech was a really fun quarter, and I’m sad it’s over. I’ll always remember all the great projects, and of course Mr. Calvert was a great teacher. Bye!
