Fire?

On September, Friday the 13th it was a perfectly normal day at Heathcote Elementary School in Scarsdale New York. Kids were waiting in the halls for the bell to ring then they heard it. It wasn’t the bell it was the fire alarm.

A 5 grader here at Heathcote  Morgan Greco says “ When I got to school I saw the teachers and students flooding out of the school I thought it was an assembly or something but then I heard the ringing and saw the flashing lights.”

The cause is still unknown. Some students think that someone must have pulled the fire alarm while others think that since it was Friday the 13th it was just bad luck. But some students don’t think it was any of those things 5th grader, Kaitlyn Shadroff thinks “ It must have been smoke coming from the kitchen or something, I don’t think it was bad luck or a student’s fault.”

Many students thought that there actually was a fire in the school, 5th grader, Sara Mayer says “ I wasn’t really sure but the expressions on the teacher’s faces shoed this wasn’t planned”

Well, this was one strange event here at Heathcote elementary school ( in Scarsdale N.Y) that left everyone to dumfound. And looking for answers.

As Morgan Greco says “ this one a crazy event though we will get over it.”

How I Chose My Topic For My Passion Project

I chose climate change for my passion project because that one of the problems that I am most passionate about.  I think that everyone should know about what is happening so that we can stop it, we can stop climate change if more people know about it and how bad it is if we just sit around and do nothing nothing will change and I think one of the biggest things that we need to change is climate change. When I was writing about it in my notebook, I got so so angry with how bad people were treating this earth and making climate change so bad and there are some people that don’t think it’s real! and boy they will be sorry when it hits them. and there I go again getting angry, you see what I mean. I don’t try to, but it all comes spilling like lava out of an erupting volcano out of me so what’s better then that! , and when I got really angry my words started to look like this. So I thought if this is going to be a passion project I should be passionate about my topic, right? So that’s how I chose my topic for the passion project.

My First Literary Essay – “Those Shoes”

Guess what?! Now I am a literary essayist! I just made my first essay. It was a lot of hard work editing, revising, adding the right punctuation,  spelling all of the names right,  making paragraphs when I went onto a new example, remembering to add my thesis statement in, finding the lesson learned for my Conclusion and much more. As you can see I did a lot of things to make  my essay the best it can be! I really really hope that all of my hard work paid off.  You can be the judge of it.  I hope you like it, I worked really hard.

Here it is…

Those Shoes

By Maribeth Boelts

In the story, “Those Shoes” by Maribeth Boelts I know that Jeremy changes from being selfish to giving.

For example in the beginning of the story grandma said there is no room for want around here only need, but Jeremy doesn’t care. Jeremy would rather spend all of their money just to be the fastest runner in school again. This matters because he is only thinking about himself and not anyone else. He is being selfish.

Another example why Jeremy changes from being selfish to giving is in the middle of the story Jeremy gets shoes that don’t fit him. This matters because he uses all of his money just to get shoes that are super tight on him and don’t fit him at all. Jeremy could have kept Mr. Alfrey’s shoes but instead he buys shoes that don’t fit.

Jeremy changes from selfish to giving because in the beginning he sees Antonio’s shoes with a piece of duct tape and he knows that Antonio needs them more than he does. In the text, he says, “I’m not going to do it” three times.  This is important because this is when Jeremy changes from being selfish to giving. Jeremy runs across the street to Antonio’s apartment and puts the shoes by his front door. This shows how he became giving to Antonio.

In “Those Shoes” Jeremy changes from being selfish to giving.  He feels really happy that he finally gave the shoes to Antonio.  In the text, it says Antonio is smiling big in his brand -new shoes. Jeremy says, “I feel happy when I look at his face.” Jeremy learns that you should always be giving because it makes you feel good too.

My Expert Book – Fire Island

I am now a published author! I have written a book about a topic I am an expert on.It was really hard with editing and revising. Also, picking to make sure that the pictures went with the writing. It was a long hard two months it was really really fun , but the hardest thing was finding the right topic. My book is about Fire Island. I chose this topic because I know just about everything about Fire Island.  I started going  every summer when I was six, and now I’m almost nine! As you can see I have been going for a really, long time.I love going to Fire Island and now it’s like a home away from home to me. And it has a very special place in my heart. That’s why I wrote a book Fire Island.

Here it is…

To The Store

Every summer (at fire island) since I was 5 I had to go to the store with an adult, until last summer. This year my grandma gave us some money and a list of things that we needed to get. We rode our bikes down to the store and collected all the things we needed.

“Bananas! Check! Cereal. Check! Bread. Check! Pasta. Check!” We got everything we needed, but we had some money left so we bought Oreos and fudge stripes.

When I stepped out of the wide open doors of the store, I saw tons of bikes cluttered on the stand. Some were big and some were small. They were in all different colors,it took a while but Roan and I finally found our bikes. We hopped on!

I said I wanted to carry the bag of groceries home. Roan said, “O.k.!”

But… the second I got on my bike and started riding home I knew it was a huge mistake, I could barely ride back home, the whole time I was thinking I will never do that again.

I was exhausted when I finally managed to get home. It was the  worst ride ever !Well to look on the bright side I got a good wor out I told Roan, next time you will carry them home but after Roan saw me suffer he wouldn’t budge.

Meanwhile… mom, had realized it was Sunday and she sent us back to get the Sunday Times.

“Not it!” I said touching my finger to my nose.

“Oh come on!” Roan said hitting his palm to his forehead as we jumped on our bike kicked up the kickstand and rode off to the store.
