Just checking in!

Hi! Lately at home we have been a bit bored but usually keeping ourselves busy with work and games outside the house. Wellness week was a great time to relax and really reflect on the past month. Hope everyone is well!

Materials Inside & Outside the House

These past couple of weeks have been tough for everyone but I hope we have all been able to be busy with schoolwork and other things. Around my house, I was able to find  screw driver a hammer and a drill. I was also able to find some smaller objects like hot glue and twigs outside. I also have access to drawing apps and a camera on the iPad.

Week 3 Reflection – 3

Last week we concluded the third week for tech. We did many fun activities and it was very fun. One of the activities we did was measure and cut the top and bottom of our boxes. When cutting, we had to be very careful so that we didn’t mess up. I thought that it was actually very easy and that there wasn’t much too it. I finished quickly and soon went on to cut my wood. I used the miter box saw and a regular one. I thought that the miter box saw was much easier since we just needed to do one simple motion. We also couldn’t cut in diagonal which was really helpful.

Week 2 Reflection -2

Today we are concluding the second week of this quarter. Time flies! Yesterday, we did a very fun activity with hand planers. To be honest, I had never even heard of one before the activity. I soon found out that that they are used to smooth wood out. I think that this is the most satisfying tool ever! Seeing the wood shavings form was so cool! We experimented with a small and big hand planer but I actually preferred the bigger one. It was easier to use and more effective! We also took the role of an architect and started to design our box. It was fun but we had to be very attentive and careful. One wrong number could cause the whole box to not work. We also had to be very specific which at first, was difficult since I didn’t know exactly what I wanted my box to be like. However, later I could start and envision my box. Now that was fun! Overall this was a very fun week and I loved it!

Wood Exploration -1

Hi, last week was the first week of technology in 7th grade! It was so exciting, we did many fun stuff including the wood exploration activity. Each table was given a box containing pieces of scrap wood, screws, screwdrivers, etc. We were told to do whatever we wanted and that we were supposed to explore. I though that it was challenging at first to find the screwdriver that fit the screw but a bit later I started to get the hang of it. I liked putting the screws inside the wood and found it very relaxing. I also thought that it was challenging to create new holes in the wood so that I could fit in the screws. After a few tries, I started to become a pro at it! In conclusion, I thought it was a really informative and fun activity to do!
