Martin Luther King Jr.

Monday is Martin Luther King day. We will celebrate everything he has done for us as a civil rights leader. He has done many great things. One of his best accomplishments was his “I Have a Dream” speech. He has done other great things like becoming the first president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), joining black college students in a sit-in at a segregated lunch counter, he won the  Nobel Peace Prize, and he organised a historic five day march with his wife, starting in Alabama, when they marched 54 miles to the state capital of Montgomery.

In it he talks about how the framers wrote the constitution, promising everyone’s freedom, but blacks are still not free. He says how there is still so much segregation. I completely agree with him. Back then, there were so many buildings saying “For Whites Only,” and even schools and water fountains were segregated.  This was not fair.

He also talks about how no blacks are satisfied, and no blacks will ever be satisfied until there is freedom for them. They will never be satisfied until there is liberty and justice for every american. He was not only talking about how blacks should be free, but how every american should have the right to religion, because it wasn’t so obvious. People used to believe in segregation.

He also talks about how he has a dream that black children will play with white children, and that he dreams that every man, woman, and child will be created equal, and have the same freedoms.
