Earlier this year we were asked to write a book response to our teacher about the book Tiger Rising.
This story is about a boy named Rob who lives in Florida with his dad. One day, Rob was waiting for the bus to arrive at the Kentucky Star Motel (where he lives) while he was waiting he decided to go into the woods. In the woods he saw a tiger. At first he didn’t think it was real until he looked again and it was still there. On the bus a new kid comes on her name was Sistine, she is very stubborn and bossy. Eventually Sistine and Rob become friends. Rob soon showed Sistine the tiger and she said it needs to be released. One day, Bo Champ (the owner of the motel and the tiger) asked Rob to feed the tiger for him, so he gave Rob a bag of meat and the keys to the cage. While he asked Rob he was sweating because he was afraid of the tiger. Sistine found out Rob had the keys and forced him into releasing the tiger. He did and the tiger came racing out of the cage. Rob’s dad saw it and thought would hurt somebody, so he shot it. Rob was very angry at his dad for doing that, but later he knew it would hurt somebody sooner or later so he wasn’t mad anymore and hugged his dad.
One example of a character changing is Sistine. At first when Rob didn’t have the keys to the cage she was talking about how wicked people were here for many reasons including locking the tiger in the cage. Then she started crying which is very unlike Sistine since she never cried in front of Rob. Rob’s personality is very odd. He shrugs a lot and “not thinks” that means he doesn’t think about anything that is in his imaginary suitcase. In that imaginary suitcase he has memories of his mom and other happy things. The point of the suitcase is to keep it shut and to not remember those happy moments.
Overall I didn’t really like this book because to me the characters weren’t very interesting and this isn’t the type of book that I like. I prefer more mystery or adventurous. This book didn’t have either of those genres in it. I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone just because it wasn’t the type of book I like.
