Capstone Blog Post #2

For Capstone, I just did my interview. The purpose of an Interview for capstone is so you can get information direct and from a different perspective. This is one of my favorite ways to get information so far. This aspect of research really helps me with my capstone because I can get fresh information.

During the process on who I was gonna interview, it wasn’t that hard to get an interviewer for me because my Aunt Elinor Slomiak is an interior designer. One of the most challenging parts about the interview was finding the perfect questions and making sure your interviewer can answer the questions. An easy part about the interview was finding who I was gonna interview because I already knew who I could interview. My favorite part of the Interview was when she was answering the questions because it felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders because I was stressed about her not being able to answer my questions.

My experience conducting the interview was mostly fun and the most tiny bit stressful. It went just as expected. I gave her my questions and she answered them and then we talked a little bit about the project. Some new things that I learned is that when you meet someone that doesn’t have the same taste as you, you should try to be in their shoes and help them with the designs that they want. Another thing that I learned is that you should always be respectful of other people’s taste in design and not make fun of them because you never know how they are gonna react. You should just think from there prospective and then after help them with finding knew designs, and furniture for their house.

Overall I loved the interview. It helped me with my research and helped me answer a couple of my sub questions that I was having trouble answering with the websites and books. This was one of my favorite parts of this project so far and I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Rube Goldberg Blog Post #2

I have finished my Rube Goldberg! my estimation of how many tries it was gonna take was 21, before we got our final product we changed some things with the lever, and other things as well. The first step was that you get a small ball and it rolls down the tube, then it hit the block of wood, that hit the cereal box, that hit the weight that was connected to a pulley and on the other side of the pulley there was a hammer that was also connected, then when the weight fell it pulled the hammer forwards ad up so it hit the dominoes of books, then that fell on another weight that rolled down the incline that fell on the lever that had a sock that went into the laundry basket. That took me 20 tries for it to work. I think that the hardest part of the project was for it to go into the laundry basket. I had to mostly change the lever part because we made it ourselves.  The part that I enjoyed most is probably when I got the successful attempt because I was so happy and relieved! The thing that i’ve learned the most is that you can always try something if you don’t know if it will work because you never know and it doesn’t hurt to know either. Overall I thought this was a fun project and I would do it again. This was one of my favorite projects so far.

Capstone blog post #1

So far for the capstone project I have came up with a main inquiry question and have came up with some sub questions but I have two cut some of them to make it 5 sun questions. so far I have really enjoyed this project. I think it’s a really fun one and the end project is gonna be great. My favorite part so far was figuring out my main inquiry question to go with my topic, because I thought it was a really fun process. My topic is How have interior design trends changed over the last 50 years and what influences have played a part in those changes? My teacher helped me pick the one that’s just right. Since i’m working on my sun questions right now, I have come up with 8 ideas and highlighted my 5 favorite in yellow. Overall I really am enjoying this project so far and I can’t wait to see the outcome!

Rube Goldberg Blog Post #1

My Rube Goldberg has been fun and challenging. One thing that was challenging was setting up the actual Rube Goldberg. Although I haven’t finished, it’s still very challenging. Another challenging part of the actual Rube Goldberg is the dominos. It kept on falling down, and I at least had to redo it 100 times! One fun thing during this project is designing it and figuring out what you want to add and remove from it. The reason I liked so much is because it was creative and it was free. So far in my Rube Goldberg I have done half of it.

My prediction is that it is gonna take 29 tries. Another fun thing was making most of the steps, I didn’t have most of the things I needed but I made most of the things that you can make, but I still had to get a couple things like a race car, a small car, a rope, and a hook. During the process I sketched a lot of ideas, I also brainstormed a lot. I came up with 3 big ideas and 5 simple tasks. Eventually it took me 2 days to decide.

My final simple task is putting a laundry ball into a laundry basket. After I finished sketching it I made a shopping list so I would know what to get and if we have it or not. Some thing we had to improvise. Like instead of a real rope, we used a rope to a jump rope. We did the same with other stuff too. I am gonna use 3 simple machines, A wheel and axle (The race car), An incline plane ( I made it with a table that’s gonna be at an incline), and A lever made out of lacrosse sticks. My favorite out of all of them is the lever or inclined plane because I made it myself. I thought it was fun creating it. Overall I think this project is fun and I thought it’s very creative and I liked how you could add whatever you wanted to it. This is one of my favorite projects! I am very excited to see the end product.

Reflecting on Creating My Immigrant Interview WeVideo

During my process some things that I really enjoyed were that I really liked interviewing my grandpa. I thought it was very interesting. Another thing that I liked was creating the WeVideo. I thought it was really fun and creative. One thing that I thought challenged me was when I was doing the voice over because the timing had to be spot on. At first before I started the actual WeVideo I thought it was gonna be quick and easy, and all I needed to do was add photos, text and a voice over, but it wasn’t as easy as it sounded in my head. When I imagined the WeVideo when it was over i didn’t think it would turn out like how it did. Overall I was pretty satisfied but the one thing is that I spoke to fast during it. I think I could’ve done a little better but other than that I thought it was good! Click on the link down below to look at my WeVideo!

Immigration Interview Reflection

For my immigration project we had to interview someone in our family that immigrated, and I chose my grandpa. He immigrated from Colombia in 1979 .The reason I chose him because I felt like he had a good story to tell and that I new it was hard for him to finally immigrate and have to leave his family. After I finished interviewing him I reread the questions and saw ways he succeed and in ways he failed, but no matter what he kept on trying and didn’t give up no matter what. He is very inspirational.

Argument and Advocacy Debate (Plastic Bags)

During this process my favorite part was probably reading all of the articles and reading both side of it. My least favorite is probably organizing all of my reasons and picking out 3 reasons out of all of the research I got. It was really fun working with my group and listening to the other side of the debate. Overall during the preparation for the debate it was a fun experience. In conclusion, I really liked the project and listening to the other sides.

Constitution Project 15th Amendment blog post #3

Overall I really enjoyed this project because I liked the challenge of trying to memorizing the script and having fun recording, but there were some struggles throughout the whole process but I fought through it and I had fun! one really big struggle for me was memorizing the script and being prepared for the presentation day. Overall one of my favorite parts of this process was probably making my slide and reading my script. Although it was challenging to memorize my slides I still liked practicing my script. One of my least favorite parts were probably finding the right resource and making sure you can trust it. If there one thing I could change it would probably be having more time to memorize and prepare for the presentation.

Constitution Project Research #2

While I was in the process of doing my research what I found most challenging was finding the right website and if it didn’t have good information we would have to look for other websites, and it was hard because you don’t know if you can trust some websites or not. Another struggle was making sure that you can trust the website and making sure it’s reliable. Some things that I thought were really fun during this process was reading and watching videos or articles it fun fun to learn about history. It was very interesting. Overall this part was fun and it was very interesting you got to learn about things you never knew.

My Constitution Project Research Question

The reason why I chose my question “How did the 14th and 15th amendment change lives for African Americans in this country” is because I felt like it was really interesting learning about how it was for African Americans back then, and how they suffered and how they thrived. I also was really interested in the question because I can’t imagine how it must of been like for African Americans back then, and I really want to try to understand what it must of been like for them.
