Rube Goldberg #2

Rube Goldberg #2

http://blogs.scarsdaleschools.org/Skeusch26 and I met for the first time on Wednesday, I went to his house right after school. The first thing we did was gather materials we gathered everything we thought might be useful. For example Skateboards  and Dominoes. Next we just experimented we tested building blocks and a marble. We actually created a catapult by tapeing a triangle building block to a rectangle building block, and dropping a football on one side that sends a marble up.

I feel that Skeush26 and I worked okay together the first time we met. I just felt so free, like their was no boundaries. What I mean by this is that the possibilities were endless we could do anything and it was so hard to choose what to do! I hope it will be easier next wendnesday.

Rube Goldberg #1

Rube Goldberg #1

My whole grade is doing the Rube Goldberg project in school. The Rube Goldberg project is when you complete a simple task in a really complicated way. For example turning on a light switch or opening an umbrella… Rube Goldberg was an inventor who did wacky things like, completing a simple task in a really complicated way.

If you still don’t understand than watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rozV07bwebE

Or you can watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iemItSAT9Ew

Or check out http://www.rube-goldberg.com/

I Decided to my Rube Goldberg project with a partner. I did this because I felt that if I did it alone my parents would of ended up helping out. Then it would not be my project it would be my parents project! I Decided to work with http://blogs.scarsdaleschools.org/Skeusch26/ We plan to meet every wednesday after school. I chose http://blogs.scarsdaleschools.org/Skeusch26/ to be my partner because I never really work with him, and because I know we would each be doing an equal amount of work.

Passion Project – Refining My Idea

The problem I choose is I have to stop lying down in class. This matters to me because even though it helps me write better it really ennoys people. Some ideas I have been thinking about to experiment is to try different things everyday like one I’ll try sitting on a table and so on to see what works best. Some idaes I have been brainstorming to  is mabey there could be a place in the room where I could lie down and it won’t ennoy other people. Or could the sulltion be that I could sit at tables and still be okay.

Passion Projects- Initial Thoughts

My Teacher gave us an assiment to change a problem in the classroom.

  • Some problems I have been brainstorming is I need to stop laying down in class.  I know thatit is very enoying to other kids that I lay down, but it is hard for me to write neet sitting chirs cross apple sause. I do wondor if I can sit at tables and write neat and not be ennoying to my fellow classmates, orf could the sullution be that I can get counsiquince?
  • Another problem I have been noting is that my class takes to much time going over the directions again.  My teacher a number of times a week. Mabey if our teacher only would only say something once those kids would learn there lesson, or could the sulltion be that those people who ask what to do will not be talked back to?
  • Another problem I am noticing is that our room is a mess. Loseleaf pappers are everywhere. Maybe if we did more stuff on the cumpture it would be less of a mess.

Rocketry Experience

Rocketry Experience

The rocketry unit in Mrs. Cooper’s classroom has been an exciting and a learning experience.

The five groups (the T.F.B, The Galaxy Squad, The Guardians of the Galaxy, The Space Grandmas, and The Superstars) had a lot of fun times while they researched, designed , built, and launched the rocket.

I learned a lot about science during the rocketry process. We had to think about drag force and Newton’s three laws of motion as each group designed and built each rocket. All the groups also learned how to work as a team and cooperate.

Personally my favorite part was launching the rocket. I was very surprised of how high my groups first rocket launched. Although I was happy with the first launch my second launch is not something that I am proud of. When my group pressed the button to launch our rocket barely went off the launch pad! So my teacher had us try it again, when we tried it again our rocket got at least higher than todays attempt #1 but did not go higher than launch #1. Although my groups second rocket did not go that high launching the rockets was still my favorite part of the whole experience.

Personally my least favorite part was compromising. My group had a lot of ideas and with a lot of ideas we had a lot of arguments. It was not fun arguing and disagreeing. But finally at the end of every argument my group had a compromise. I think that agreeing was my groups least favorite part of the experience.

Here is everything my class did in the rocketry unit. The first thing we did was research, each group watched videos, read articles, took notes, and even studied photos to help them later in the process. Next each group created an inspiration board. On the inspiration board they put quotes, images, and facts. Mostly things they researched. After that each group made a design for their first rocket. They either made it on paper or google drawing. Also they had to put why they choose anything on their design. For example one thing my group put on our design was why we decided to have a thick body. Than we built the rocket. My group decided to have a 12 inch. Body that was made of construction paper, with 3 foam paper fins that were in the shape of a triangle, lastly we had a paper nose cone that was pointy, and we brought everything together with tape and glue. Finally it came time to launch I was both excited and nervous. There were four readers that measure the angle, degrees of how high each rocket went. The last thing my group did for rocket number one was graph the rocket, figure out how high it went. We did this by taking the angle that the kilometers readers got and then turned it into meters using a special chart.

The first rocket process was the same as the last. Except my group new how high some other groups went and how low other did, and we new what things on their rockets made them go so high or so low.

When the rocketry unit was over my teacher had us do a slideshow about the process. In the slideshow my group included what we did in the process, why we did it, and how we did it. For example on one slide I said “We decided to use three foam paper fins so that our rocket would be lighter and consist of a perfect amount of drag.”

This is my Groups Slideshow:

My group all worked on memorizing our lines and when we finally did we had our parents come in and we did the slideshow for them.

This is my groups Performance:

Overall the rocketry unit in Mrs. Cooper’s class has been an exciting learning and a cooperating experience. And now that it is over I wish I could do it again.

Passion Project Reflection (Shake Shack)

Shake Shack

First 2 Weeks

At first I wanted to study Italy, because I always wanted to learn about a country. My teacher told us we had to narrow down our idea. In other words narrow down what we are studying. When I started thinking of Italy I thought of pizza and I decided to study how and why is there an impact on pizza from Italy. While I was thinking of pizza I was also thinking of pizza restaurants, but then I got this idea how do you run a successful pizza restaurant. After that I thought to myself why should I do pizza, I want to study how do you run a successful restaurant. I was thinking of money and how much you pay your workers and commercials and secret recipes. The only problem was that there are so much restaurants and it still was such a big topic. Then I narrowed it down again and chose Shake Shack to be my example and that is the story of how I got from Italy to Shake Shack. I learned that this is how the thought process goes.

How I develop questions. This part was kind of easy because there was so much I could wonder about and follow up on. I had so many questions because I  did not know that much about Shake Shack. I was lucky that I picked something that I am very passionate about and willing to do. I’m willing to visit Shake Shack and do work. My questions were so much different than my classmates. I did not know if i had the right questions. But, my teacher said that there is no such thing a wrong question. I have a different topic than anyone in my class. There was no other kid in the class doing something on a business. My questions ending up working out. It was a good start because it pushed me to research different topics and helped me to organize what I needed to do.

Doing the research was easy at first because there was so much information on Shake Shack. But, when I later tried to do some more research the same articles kept popping up. Then I decided to buy the Shake Shack Book that tells all the recipes and stories and when it came in the mail I was safe again. The book tells everything from the plan in the beginning to how and why they are a worldwide phenomenon. It took me awhile to figure out doing text structures on the computer. It took me a long time to do it on top of that, but once the teacher showed the class an example of what it should look like I got it.

My teacher always said take it one step at a time don’t think about the end process. She was right. I was thinking about doing a video of Italy but it all changed now i’m doing Shake Shack and have all of this research. I don’t know what I would’ve done if my teacher did not show me the thought process.

Next two weeks

The second two weeks were the eassist for me because I scooped it out I made a plan it my notebook it was like this for site visits I could go to the shake shack in yonkers, for making things I could make the burgers, and I could get an interview with someone that works at the shake shack in yonkers.

What I ended up doing was going and eating at the shake shack yonkers and getting an interview with susana the manager at that shake shack. Coming up with the questions was easy I just used what I wanted to know about shake shack. I ended up making the burgers Which tasted so good. The recipe is in the video. This was so easy and fun.

Final two weeks

The final two weeks were Easy then chanling for a while then easy again. At first it was fun learning how to do a wevideo but then it got very changing, it took so long I kwas making the video one step at a time which took hours for one topic. So I decided to write a script I wrote everything I wanted to say then recorded  it and added images to go along with it now it was easy again.

Here is my note book

Book Partnerships The One And Only Iven Jot 3

The book I am reading is The One And Only Ivan by Katherine Applegatemy partners are Pj and Sam.

Here is My 3rd Jot..

I have been noticing that Ivan has been wishing he could  talk to people. I think that Ivan wants to help people with their problems. Such as when Ivan wanted to cheer up a boy that was crying. Also I think Ivan is a very kind and humble person, and is always caring about his freinds, just like how he felt so bad for his best freind ruby he made up a plan to try getting her to the zoo where she will be happy. I wonder if this is because he can hear people but can’t talk to people.

Book Partnerships – The One And Only Ivan – Jot #2

The book I am reading is The One And Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate my partners are Pj and Sam.

Here is a Jot I wrote…

I pattern I am noticing about Ruby is she asks a lot of questions. She is always asking Ivan deep questions that is hard to answer, and he does not really want to.Maybe she ask so many because she is very interested in a lot of things? Or could it be that Ruby is so young that she does not know that much information? I wonder if she is use to living in the jungle she does not know that much about being in a circus? Ruby is also pretty scard because someone like her an elephant in the circus that had the same job as Ruby just died in her cage/domain. I think that Ivan is a good friend, because he is always making/telling his friend into doing the best thing possible for them. Think back to when Ivan helped his friend get to the zoo.

Book Partnerships – The One And Only Ivan – Jot #1

My first book I am reading is The One And Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate my partners are Pj and Sam.

While we are reading we have to jot down our ideas on Padlet. My first jot was:

Ivan is very humble, kind, and gives encouragement. to Stella. For example he said to Stella “You would have made a great mother.” I think Ivan very nice, encouragementive, and humble to Stella because he knows how much pain she is in. Even though Stella told Ivan no, he still kept on giving encouragement and saying stuff like ” You would have made a great ____.” Think back when Stella is helping Ivan fall asleep. Envisioning that I am Stella: I am being told by my best friend  that knows me so well that I would have been great raising a family. It warms my heart and I fell touched. Even though I know that it is harder than he thinks.
