Immigration Interview

For this project, we had to interview an immigrant who came to the U.S. We could do a family member, neighbor, friend, anyone, but they had to be an adult. I was thinking that I could do my mum or dad. Finally I chose my mum.

To prepare for the interview, we had to think of some questions to ask our interviewee. We had to come up with sensible questions and ones that wouldn’t just be a yes or no question. First we had to come up with 20 questions, then we chose the best ones and narrowed them down to 10-15 questions. I did 14 questions. After that we had to make sure our questions were good and not just yes or no questions. With a partner we looked over them and made sure they were all correct.

When the interview came, I wasn’t nervous at all because it was my mum. It didn’t take very long, and during the interview I took notes on a google docs sheet. I did the interview in person at my house. The interview went quite well. I learnt that when you do do an interview you need to be polite and not make the person wait a while while you write the answers down. Because it was my mum, I already knew quite a bit about her and what it was like. My family moved to the U.S together last year, so I knew a lot about her experience.

Overall, I think that this is a fun little project and I am looking forward to making my WeVideo.
