Yesterday we started learning about wood and continued this unit today. Redwood trees are 2,000 years old in average, a young age for this type of tree is 350 years and reach old age at 1,500 years. Insects and fungi do not hurt redwood trees and they are fire resistant. The only question I have is, Have any lumberjacks died by being squished by a tree?

heres a link on a interesting article I found about redwood trees: http://www.takepart.com/feature/2016/04/18/racing-save-ancient-redwood-forests-climate-change

  1. Hmm. Yes, I’m afraid to say that yes, lumberjacks and tree workers have indeed died in accidents while cutting trees down. It is a very dangerous task, and people need to go through a lot of training before they should try it!
However, those accidents happen a LOT LESS now, since tree workers have better tools and safety gear, and now that they use machinery and not just hand tools!
