In class we are reading ” Refugee ” by Alan Gratz. This week we were talking about the theme of the book which is power.

In Josef ‘s story Hitler and the Nazis had power from taking over Germany. And could even kill or  Josef and his family when ever he wanted. Nobody could stop Hitler and the Nazis. Soon after everybody( actually meant Jews ) voyaged to Cuba and Hitler and the Nazis lost power. But they were denied by the Cuban government. Now Josef had the power because ten men wanted him to talk to the captain because he had a tour and new the way. now Josef is demanding the captain to turn the ship back to Cuba and away from Germany. But the captain the captain can not obey that but the captain said he would send them to France and not to Germany. Everybody was agreeing with the captain but Josef didn’t but he could not do anything so he just agreed. when they went to France they lived a normal life except Josef had to be in kindergarten since he did not know any french. Soon after France had a war and Josef and his family left France.

In the begging of of Isabel’s story Fidel Castro had the power because he could arrest Isabel’s dad . But once Isabel’s dad heard that  he and his family decided to leave his country.When they left Fidel Castro started loosing power. After that Fidel Castro let anyone leave. Now Isabel and her family had the power since  they left Cuba they felt free and that they could do anything.

In the begging of  Mahmoud’s the war had power since they could destroy or kill anyone they wanted at any time.  Once Mahmoud’s house got bombed they decided to leave to go to Turkey. When they arrived at the turkey border they started feeling power, solders started shooting Mohmoud’s car and that’s when the solders started getting power.Then they took a boat to Europe , then a storm came causing Mahmouds family to drowned  they had to give up Hannah. then the people who had Hannah had the power. Soon after his whole family got arrested and then lost their power.
