Title: It’s A Boy! Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Welcome Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor

Source: Dogo News

Article Date: May 10, 2019

News Type: World

Summary:

Did you know that almost a year after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married, they had a little baby boy? May 6, 2019 was the birth of the new baby. He was 7 pounds, 3 ounces, and very healthy! People found out about this on Instagram on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s account. This news was also revealed on a sign posted on the front doors of Buckingham Palace. The name of the royal baby is Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Archie is a nickname for Archibald. Archibald means bold, genuine, and brave. Archibald’s second name, is Harrison, which means “son of Harry,” is named after Prince Harry. People thought Archibald’s first name would be something different than it was because most royal babies were named after important British people in the past. A lot of people guessed the baby would be named Alexander, Spencer, James, Arthur, and also Theodore. But Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were happy with what name they chose. They didn’t stick to the tradition of naming the baby on a previous British person, they stuck to other traditions to make up. One of those “other traditions” included showing the baby to Archibald’s great-grandmother, 93-year-old Queen Elizabeth II, and her husband, 97-year-old Prince Philip. Archie is the seventh in line for the throne. He’s after Prince Charles, Prince William, and his three children, and Prince Harry! Though prince Harry is not likely to ever be king, they put hime in the line anyway.

Title: Diet Drugs Seem To Make Mosquitoes Less Thirsty For Human Blood.

Article Date: March 28, 2019

Source: Dogo News

News Type: World

Summary: Female mosquitoes get food from our human blood. But they are also responsible for illnesses like yellow fever, Dengue, and Zika. Researchers have found quite a few solutions to this. A research team at New York’s Rockefeller University has an amazing new solution to keep away mosquitoes. They fill their stomachs with diet drugs to make mosquitoes less hungry for our blood. As the scientists studied, they used Aedes aegypti (ay’ dee’s agipti) mosquitoes to test on. The research team did a lot of testing on the female mosquitoes. They found out that once mosquitoes have had one serving of human blood, they don’t need it again for a little while. Later on, the team did a lot more studying and found out that the diet drugs only had a temporary effect on the mosquitoes.

Personal Response: I chose this article because I thought that it was really cool that drugs could temporarily stop mosquitoes from biting people. Also, I HATE MOSQUITO BITES!!!!

Article Date: February 6, 2019

News Type: World

Summary: Romeo is a Sehuencas water frog who has a cool pattern on his skin, an orange stomach, and giant green eyes. Researchers think that Romeo is the only frog of his kind. Now they have just found Romeo a Juliet just in time for Valentines Day! Romeo started calling for a mate after about 12 months living in an aquarium at Bolivia’s Natural History Museum. Romeo has been calling out less, and less which makes people worry that he has lost all hope for love. People are helping Romeo by putting his profile on a website called Match.com, a matchmaking website. It didn’t attract any other frogs, but they raised $25,000 to help search crews look for a mate. On January 15, 2019, scientists finally found what they were looking for. Researchers were about to give up before they checked one more creek, which was where they saw a frog jump, which turned out not to be Juliet. It was another male Sehuences water frog. The researchers found a few more frogs, one of which, turned out to be Romeo’s age, so it was named Juliet. Now researchers are still searching, hoping for new discoveries.

Personal Response: I chose this article because right when I looked into the eyes of this super cool frog, I knew I wanted to do this article.

Title: NASA’s  NeMO-Net Will Give Scientists A Valid Excuse To Play Video Games

Article Date: January 20, 2019

Source: Dogo News

News Type: World

Summary: Coral reefs are really colorful and really important to Earth. Scientists know where reefs are, but they still don’t know how many different types of coral are out there. NASA is trying to excite people by making a fun video game. Ved Chirayath and his team now have a camera, the FluidCam. It can be attached to very small drones to take close-up pictures of coral systems and make 3-D images! If you play NeMo-Net, you start by learning how to map limits and textures of lots if coral, organize it, and move around the reef. To level up, you have to do a good job with the level they are on. You will soon be able to play NeMo-Net on your I-pad or phone.

Personal Response: I chose this article because I thought it was really cool that scientists are able to play video games while they are researching because I love technology. What do you think of my article?

My Personal Essay About How I Hate Being The Oldest Sibling

Hey you guys! It’s me. Here’s my personal essay about how I hate being the oldest sibling in my family:

You’d probably think that being the oldest sibling is the easiest job to be in a family, but boy, are you wrong. I’m expected to be the responsible one, I don’t have someone in front of me who has done it already or can give me advice, and younger siblings give me the blame instead of taking it themself. Sometimes people say that I’m an amazing older sister and that I must love the job, but I never believe it, because it’s not true!

One reason that it’s hard being the oldest sibling is because I’m expected to be the responsible one. One time, me mom told me and my sister to watch over my baby sister. Then one of them got hurt. My mom and dad blamed me for them getting hurt, even though I wasn’t the responsible one! See what I mean about having to be the responsible one? I wish I was the middle child.

Another reason that I don’t like being the oldest sibling is because you don’t have someone in front of you that has already done it, or can give you good advice. No one can help you, No one can tell you what to do, and no one would be there to teach you.  I’ve been good at tennis for a long time now. A while ago when my sister had just started tennis she probably asked me to help her swing and hit forehands. I told her, “Do this, and then this…” so that she knew how to do it. I could help my siblings with soccer, softball, tennis, hockey, art, and anything else that they could have needed help with. But since I’m the oldest sibling, if I was the first one to try-out lacrosse or something, I wouldn’t have anyone who could give me advice on how to do it. It must feel amazing to be the youngest sibling.

My last reason for why I don’t like being the oldest sibling is because younger siblings give you the blame, instead of taking it for themself. If your sister breaks something expensive you get blamed, if she hurts herself badly you get blamed, and if anything else bad happens to my little sister, I’m the one one who gets blamed. Of course my parents believe my younger sister for everything, so I would get in trouble. I hate getting blamed so I hate being the oldest.

Now do you get why I don’t like being the oldest? It’s so frustrating! I’m expected to be the responsible one, I don’t have someone in front of me who has done it already or can give me advice, and younger siblings give me the blame instead of taking it themself. Now you feel bad for me!

Colonial America Summary

Hi guys! It’s me. Now in school we have to post something about a passage that talks about Colonial America. Here’s mine:

In the passage “Colonial America” the main idea is that living in colonial times was hard. Every tribe spoke a different language and had their own way of living. When the Europeans came to the Natives’ land, they had a different way of living so that made it hard for the Native Americans. Native Americans also didn’t believe in what Europeans believed in. When more settlers came, they took native land. This caused arguments. Soon, things worked out and cities were made.

Did you like it? Was the passage good? Let me know. I’ll keep posting. Byeee!!!!!!!!!!

Hola World, I’m Back!!!

Hola my sweet world! I’m back. It’s Annabelle and now I’m in fourth grade. I’m 9 years old and I go to Fox Meadow Elementary School in Scarsdale NY. I have lots of super amazing friends at both school and camp! In my time when I am free I watch TV, play on my Wii, and my favorite math game, Prodigy. I live with my family, 2 sisters, and my parents, in a house with our pet fish.

I have a favorite sport too. I love tennis. I don’t  remember when I started doing tennis, but that doesn’t really matter. I take tennis lessons at Tennis Innovators Academy all year and, in the spring and summer I play at Fox Meadow Tennis Club. The order of ball levels is red, orange, green, and then yellow. Yellow ball is mainly only for adults and the best players, so I’m not yellow ball yet. . . But I’m really close! I’m green ball! I take tennis with one of my best friends from school. I hope you like tennis too!

I love pizza! When I moved to Scarsdale we had dinner at a pizza place called Frankie & Fanucci. I loved it from first taste. I always got excited when my parents told me and my sisters that we were going there, we would both get excited and jumpy. Soon, my mom and dad started to give us a different type of pizza because they said F+F, “traveled cold.” I think that is a total lie. Whoever invented pizza, I think that person is a genius. Pizza is the best food that ever walked (or maybe that was on) the earth.

I am writing this blog about a lot of things. I will write about sports (tennis), food (pizza), school, camp, and much more. I am looking forward to posting more to you. I hope you like my blog! Byyyyyyyyyeeeee!!!!!!!!!

Doctors

Hi! I’m back! And this time I have something special to show you. I’m going to show you my persuasive essay that I worked on in school. Here it is:

Doctors are amazing in a lot of different ways. They heal us when we get injured. They keep us healthy when we get sick. Whenever you get nervous at the doctor’s office, the doctors always find some way to calm you down. Doctors are too special to not be thanked. Have you ever thought about thanking them? I think we should thank doctors more often.

Doctors always heal us. Whenever I fall and get a scrape, the doctor always washes it off and makes me feel better. There has never been a time when I’ve had a bad sickness or infection where the doctor wasn’t there for me. Doctors also heal you when you have broken bones. For example, one time my friend was jumping on a couch in her house. She kept pouncing until she FELL OFF THE COUCH!!! She was only 3 when she broke her left arm! But the doctors still made her feel better by taking her to the hospital. Then the doctors gave her a cast and my friend was able to go back to school. After a little while, my friend was all better. The doctors had saved the day once again.

Another way doctors heal you is by giving you medicine. Whenever you get sick, the doctor always gives you medicine and heals you. Like the one time I had a really bad cold. My mom took me to the doctor’s office so that they could check me out. Soon, my mom had to take me to the hospital to get an x-ray because the doctors needed to know if I had something like pneumonia. I had the x-ray taken and the doctors found out that I didn’t have anything very bad. Only a horrible cold. We went back to the doctor’s office and the doctors gave my mom the medicine I needed. Soon, my cold had gone away and I could go back to school again. The doctors had healed me once again. That’s what doctors are for.

Doctors also keep your body healthy. One way they do that is by giving us shots. Once a year, we go to the doctor’s office to get a flu shot so we don’t get the flu. The shot may hurt, but the doctors do it to keep us safe. Usually, I am a very good patient at the doctors office. But when I was getting the flu shot for this year, I TOTALLY freaked out. Even before the shot I was squirming around everywhere. I was moving around so much that my mom and the doctor had to hold me down! In the end, I finally had my flu shot. I cried a hole lot, but I survived. Another reason that doctors keep us healthy is by keeping our eyes healthy. For example, this year I got glasses. My mom took me to a place where I was going to get my eyes tested. The doctors tested my eyes a lot. Finally, I was told to go into a room with a ton of glasses. Once inside the room, I was told to walk around the room and pick out the glasses I wanted. Soon, my mom and I came back to the office to pick up my glasses. Now, I can see perfectly fine! Without doctors, I’d be as blind as a sloth!

Some people might think that doctors shouldn’t get appreciated because they get paid at least $77,280 a year. However, you are wrong. Just because doctors get paid that much it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t thank them. I believe that doctors should always be thanked not just because they never get thanked, but also because doctors are always on the lookout for you and for others. Even though doctors are paid so much money a year, doctors should always be thanked and appreciated.

The last reason doctors are so important is because whenever you – or anyone – is at the doctor’s office, the doctor always finds some way to comfort the patient. One way they do that is by talking to you as they examine your body. Doctors always keep us distracted with nice conversations. Doctors also make you feel better in the office by giving you a lollipop on your way out of the doctors office. I always leave the doctors office with a lollipop griped in my hand There hasn’t been a day in the doctor’s office where I have left unhappy. Everytime I pass the doctor’s office, I see a patient walking out the door with a huge, bright, smile on their face. It’s a good thing doctors are very nice and entertaining, because if doctors were as quiet as snails, then we’d all die from boredom! Doctors are important in many ways. All the reasons I just mentioned is why. And now you have finally finished reading my last reason. Now all you need to do is read my conclusion. C’mon! Move it!

Ah. I see you’ve finally reached my conclusion. I know you have already read a lot but please, just read this! Thank you! Doctors are always on the lookout for the world. They heal you, make sure you are healthy, and keep you happy and entertained. Just remember, next time you go to the doctors office, thank the doctor that just helped you. Every doctor would appreciate that.

How was that? I hope you thought that it was good because I worked hard on that. Next time I have something cool to show you I’ll post it. Promise. Keep reading my blog!

Hello world!

Hi! I’m Annabelle. I am eight years old. I am very excited to be writing my first blog. Here are some things about me: I go to the school Fox Meadow. I love to sketch, write, and color. I also like playing the piano and learning the recorder and violin. Some of my favorite sports are tennis and swimming. My favorite foods are pizza, ice cream, and of course, I love taco night. I have two siblings that are younger than me. I also have two wonderful and caring parents. My favorite subjects at school are reading, writing, and recess. I don’t have any pets but my baby sister sure acts like one! Every night at dinner my baby sister Julia always comes up to our seats and she begs [ well, not really, but it’s like she begs ] for a little bit of our food. My five year old sister can sometimes get on my nerves a bit.  Now that you know so much about me and my family, I bet you can’t wait to read more of my blogs. Well, I’ll keep posting! Come back soon!
