Colonial America Book Reflecxion

Our teacher told us to make a colonial america blog post. First I put the top three topics I wanted on a index card and Mrs. Rickard narrowed it down. Then, once I got my topic, I researched about my topic and found information. Then I wrote the information in my reading notebook. After that, I put together a plan on what we were going to do for each chapter. After, I wrote the information on index cards. Then I wrote a first draft of my chapters on a notepad. After that, I put the chapters on a google doc and revised them. Once I had all my information on the doc, I started to copy and paste my work onto slides. Then, I worked on my glossary. Finally, I got pictures and gave them captions and made my bibliography.

My favorite part of the project was chapter three. I liked chapter three because we got to be creative and make a journal entry or letter from a person’s perspective that has to do with our topic. Another part I liked was chapter two because we got to research on different subtopics.

Chapter three was also challenging because I had to come up with two people and create their different and similar thoughts. It was also hard to come up with the way each of them spoke.I settled that that native would use improper English, and the settler boy to speak old English.

When writing this book, I figured I was a writer  that likes to use lots of fact, but only use fiction when necessary (like in chapter 3), and as a researcher, I usually look across many books for one part of a topic, and as a reader, I now, because of this project, should look at the table of contents of a book to see if it has what I need.

If I did the Colonial America book again, I think what I would do differently is the organization of the chapters. Chapter 1 first, then chapter 4, chapter 2 and then chapter 3. I what to do this so I can show the readers right away why colonial boys had and important role.

This is my colonial america book. Enjoy!

  1. I thought your blog post and your Colonial America book were great! I really liked how you put two perspectives in your chapter 3. I also liked how you put what was challenging for you and what was easy for you in your blog post. You did a great job!

  2. That was an amazing book! I liked the chapter 3 the best!!!!! I liked it because the colonist boy wanted to see his native friend and the native wanted to see his English friend. It was amazing!
