What I’ve learned

In my first zoom in tech i learned that we’re going to be doing a lot of projects. Also I learned that were going to be focusing on Nearpod a lot. I’m very excited and I’m looking for good things to come out of tech,

Final project

my passion project final project is going to be a slideshow. It’s going to be 5 to 6 slides. It’s going to be the timeline of the Celtics and Lakers rivalry. One slide is gonna be about the 1950s.   one is going to be about the 1960s. another one is going to be about the 80s.I am not including the 90’s because neither team was that good during that time and the rivalry was not strong.  one slide is going to be about the 2010s. And one is going to be about now.  I will include pictures of the players, the logos, and other things that connect to the slides.

Obstacles i have faced

Some of the challenges I faced was finding a topic.  First, I was going to research all sports rivalries, but then I narrowed my topic to just the lakers and Celtics.  It was easier because i now had a focus but harder because there was less information.  I am struggling getting written sources about this.  But I did find a three hour long documentary which was very helpful.

What I’m learning about myself

What I’m learning about myself is That I am really into Learning and watching sports. Especially the Celtics and Lakers rivalry. What I learned about myself as a notetaker is that I Take notes that revolve around my sub topics. What I learn about myself as a reader is that I am a very quick reader and I read the whole passage first and then take notes about it.

Progress

So far I’ve been working on my research and I’m pretty much done with it. The resources I’ve used our 30 for 30 and lots of different articles and some books. I’ve been taking notes that revolve around my sub questions. Part of the project that I had to revise was the different sports that I was doing at first I thought I should’ve done basketball football soccer and baseball and then I thought basketball college basketball football and college football then I watch the 30 for 30 about the Celtics and Lakers rivalry And I decided to do the Celtics and Lakers rivalry.

I feel like that the quality of my work is pretty good it could be better but it could be worse.

Resources and notetaking

I started with a Google search on sports rivalries. I noticed that there were Entries from Encyclopedia Britannica on the subject articles on ESPN.com and videos on sports documentaries. My plan is to use all these different sources to do my research project.

Encyclopedia Britannica is a well-known and legitimate source so I feel confident that any information I get from there will be accurate. I do not plan on using Wikipedia which could also be an accurate ESPN is a well-known source.

I think ESPN and bleacher report will be the most helpful because those to only talk about sports and then the other topics like the rivalry’s from sports. I think sports Center will be helpful and Netflix because sports Center is a talk show about the biggest news in sports. I think Netflix will be helpful because there’s a lot of documentaries about sports.I think Netflix will be helpful because there’s a lot of documentaries about sports.

After I read the articles and watch documentaries I’m going to take notes on a Google doc. I’m going to make a note of the source and add information that connects to my topic. That way I can keep track of all the information and where it is from in one place.

Topic choice and proposal.

I sat down and I thought about things I would like to research about. Since I am very into sports at first I thought about football. But then I realized that was too broad. I didn’t just want to do a research project I wanted to do something that had stories behind it. I started thinking why do I love watching sports? There are so many things i like,  but one thing that interests me are the stories behind the teams, including and especially the rivalries.

Once I decided on a topic, it was easy to figure out specific questions on things I wanted to learn more about.  I also decided which sports I wanted to focus on.  I have just decided to look at NBA basketball, college basketball, football, college football, soccer.  At first I thought I would do baseball because there are some really big rivalries there, but I don’t like baseball so I decided to not look at baseball rivalries.

For my passion project, I am going to learn about sports rivalries.  I chose to research this topic because I like sports and like learning about stories relating to sports.  I often watch documentaries relating to sports with my family. I like watching sports because sports are always fun to watch but I also like knowing about heir teams, and the stories behind both.

I plan to research sports rivalries over the history of sports. I am going to pick and focus on a few rivalries from every sport including football, basketball, college football, college basketball and soccer. In my paper,  I want to research when and how the rivalry started, why it started, and look at differences in the story of the team’s rivalries.

Main Inquiry Question

How have sports rivalries developed over time?

Sub questions

  1. What are the greatest rivalries in sports history?
  2. How did these rivalries start?
  3. How do the rivalries affect the players?
  4. How do the rivalries affect the fans
  5. How do the rivalries affect the game playing?

Capstone blog post number 6: working on my final product

I was so excited to finish my final ignite presentation I memorized all of my script. Doing the finial project was not very easy.  you have to do lots of research . I am pretty relieved that I finished my capstone presentation. And I have memorized it. To answer your the whole capstone project was really hard and challenging. For the presentation, we had main inquiry question. The main question was: how do the fitness and nutritional regimens of football and basketball players compare.  For the Capstone, you have to do plenty of blog posts, you make a presentation on google slides, you got to make your script and memorize it. You had a choice to do an ignite, ted talk or a movie. I chose to do an Ignite. An Ignite is twelve slides, three minutes, 15 seconds per slide. The most challenging was working on the script. The easiest part was finding pictures.  I worked on the Ignite for a long time. My favorite slide is the conclusion. The slide recaps all my points.

capstone blog post number 5

Before I started my essay I thought it was going to be very hard to complete, but after I met with Ms. Edwards she gave me an outline to start with. The outline made the essay simple by separating the essay into parts. The essay I wrote explained my inquiry question, which was “How do the nutritional and fitness regimens of professional football and basketball players compare?”.  Below is my essay.

How do the nutritional and fitness regimens of

professional football and basketball players compare?

by Chase Kantor

Do you know why JJ Watt and Lebron James are so buff? Well, their training and nutrition are important reasons why they are so fit. But, how do the training and nutritional regimens of professional football and basketball players compare? Read on to find out!

Some ways that football players train is by using box jumps, medicine balls, push sleds, tire flips, and bench pressing. Box jumps increase strength and muscle tone and builds lots of upper body and lower body strength.Aaron Rodgers’ workout routine is bench pressing 300 pounds, body weight squats, less weighted exercises to put less stress on your body, cardio (boxing drills, 400 meter sprints, going on stationary bike and rowing machines, pushing 3000 pound car, walking lunges, farmer walks), and yoga.

Some ways basketball players train is by using stationary bikes, treadmills, rope pulls, and lifting barbells. The difference between basketball training and football training is in basketball training there is more cardio and in football training there is more weight lifting. Russell Westbrooks’ workout routine is squat jumping, box jumping, stiff leg deadlifting, walking lunges, and russian twists.

Usually football players diet to gain weight while basketball players diet to lose weight. The Jets players go through large amounts of food daily including: 34 pounds of chicken a day, five pineapples a day, 18 pints of strawberries, a case of mangoes, and five cantaloupes. Lou Williams, an NBA player on the Los Angeles Clippers, has an egg white omelet, hash browns, chicken and turkey sausage in the morning. A 7 foot center would have about 6000 to 7000 thousand calories a day, while linemen and defensive tackles eat about 9000 calories a day. Defensive tackles and linemen have to eat a lot because they need to be big to get past the offensive linemen and sack the quarterback. The reason why basketball players eat a lot less than football players is because they need to be more agile and jump higher.

Training affects football players physique by increasing strength and muscle tone, core strength, strength in the glutes, hamstrings, quads. Both sports lift weights and have special diets.

Some ways training affects basketball players body is  development of lean muscle. It  helps develop your lower back, neck, deltoids, traps and core muscles, triceps, abdomen, shoulders, and calves. The difference is the training makes football players big, strong, and muscular. For basketball the training makes the athlete lighter, faster, and slim. I think football players have bigger muscles than basketball players but I think basketball players can jump higher.

In conclusion basketball training and football training have similarities and differences. Basketball stresses cardio.  Football emphasizes strength and power. Football players want to maintain weight. Basketball players want to have stamina and not be that fat. Training makes basketball players slim but not very slim. Training makes football players strong and muscular. Both sports spend long hours training with weights and both use special healthy diets to help the athletes gain peak performance.

Capstone blog post #4 – site visit

I just had my interview with Anthony Goenagga and then we started the site visit. I was so excited. First right after the interview, and right oustside the hallway there was a room where Kevin Knox was and I said hi to him. After that Anthony took me into the courts. In the gym there was two courts on one of the courts  was the Knicks best player Denis Smith! He was shoting while sitting on a box. It was crazy because making every shot. While he was working I was looking at some equipment. And then Anthony said I could do some of the excersises there was on excersise which was two. The two were a resistance band which was attached to the wall and I had to get to the logo but I couldn’t. The second excersise was a verticle jump  I got pretty high and it was fun. After that Anthony took me in a room where the players get there muscles relaxed. In there I saw another on of there players Mitchel Robinson! We had a little conversation it was cool. I also got something drilled on my arm that felt really good. After that Anthony took me to the locker room with three players! Mitchel Robinson, Kevin Knox, and Dennis Smith. It was sooo cool. I had a conversation with all of them, I also was a little shy. After that Anthony took me into the gym. The second I got in my heart was trembling. I hadn’t seen as many weights in my life. There were like tenthousand. Anthony took me into a room with like 8 treadmills. One of them could take as much weight off of you as you want. If it took most of the weight off you, you would feel like your in space. Another treadmill went thr speed you did, like if you went 10 miles per hour the treadmill would go 10 miles per hour. If you stop the treadmill. There was a box that could get as cold as negative 300 degrees. After that Anthony took me into the food court. The food court was pretty normal. It was reallly healthy in there the most unhealthy thing in there was cofee. After that it was all over. But then Anthony said he had something for me. I was super excited and curios. When he brought it in I screamed of excitement it was a signed pair of shoes from Noah Vonleh!
