Capstone blog post number 1 – Choosing a topic
In fifth grade starting in May ending at the end of the school year you do a capstone project. A capstone project is one of the biggest projects in fifth grade where you eventually present a slideshow. For the capstone you have to choose a topic which you will research for two months and do your project about. For my topic I chose Athletic Training. It was a little challenging to chose my topic but after my parents gave me the idea I agreed to do it. I didn’t really know to much about the topic so I am pretty interested in learning and researching about it. Also I knew what I was going to do for my interview and my site visit. I am pretty confident about my topic. In school we were supposed to make a chart with questions that we would be researching about. On my poster I put nine questions. The question I chose was “What are the differences about basketball training and football training”. I am really excited and confident to do my capstone on Athletic training.
blog post number five – final product
Since we did the immigrant interview. We were assigned to make a Spark Video of it. The Spark Video is supposed to be a story told about the immigrant. We were supposed to use narration, text and photos. My teacher said if we have no text on the slide, and just have voice recording then we have to at least have a photo. For the voice recording for the video I had to listen to the actual video to get it together.
The video had to be three minutes long minimum with some what like 20 slides. In Spark Video you can use something called a theme. I picked the” focus” one.
It was easier than I thought to do the slides. I had to find a specific picture that connected with my voiceover. Overall, I am having fun doing the immigrant slide show for Spark Video.
This is a YoutTube video of my Spark Video.

Rube Goldberg #4 – going to the the hardware store
After our second meeting we realized that we didn’t have the materials to successfully build our Rube Goldberg. So, we took a trip to the hardware store. There, we found some useful items like tubes, tape, rope, we found multiple tubes like styrofoam tubes and plastic tubes. We were happy what we found so we went back to my house to try them out.
The first time we tried using the materials we failed a bunch of times. We couldn’t figure out how to connect the tubes so that a ball would go through them. We also couldn’t figure out how to get the ball in the tube. By the end of the day we cut a whole in the cup and taped it to a tube, we had one more step. But we didn’t know what would happen after the ball went through the tube, and we weren’t one hundred percent sure that the ball would go into the cup, we realized that the cup had to be placed slightly under the table. We made progress but we only had half of the project done.
Rube Goldberg #3 – Meeting number two
After the first meeting, my group was very anxious to meet for a second time. Since we only accomplished two steps in our first meeting we had to do a lot in our second meeting. While we were working on the project I had an idea that the car should hit a cup. And then Reece said that there should be a ball inside the cup. So we made the idea that the ball would go into a tube.
We were getting a little bored so, we decided to take a break and play some xbox. After we finished the break we worked on the project a little bit more. We all decided for the last step that the ball coming from the tube should hit some little football figures that go into a soccer goal. After we finished we were super relieved. We didn’t even care that we haven’t even tried the Rube Goldberg out yet but, we were so happy.
Kindness challenge blog post
The kindness challenge is when the teachers explain to the class different ways to be friendly to other people. One way to be kind from the kindness challenge that I succeed in was saying thank you to a carpool driver. Another act of kindness that I succeed in was holding the door open for a friend. These are both acts of kindness because they involve thinking about the feelings of another person and showing you appreciate them. I want to continue the kindness challenge by including other kids who may want to play with me at recess. I would do this by going up to them and ask them how are you, do you want to play with me? Over the weekend I plan to do some more acts of kindness.

Learning From our Differences
This morning from learning from our differences Dennis Oehler came to our school. His dissability was that he lost his leg. The story behind it is they were getting back from a hockey game late at night and his car wasn’t moving than he went into his friends car and that car wasn’t moving either. There was a car behind them that was getting angry so Dennis got out of the car and tried to push it to the side so the car could go. When there was just enough room for the car to go and the car went and there were other car behind the car that just left and the other cars didn’t see Dennis and they drove into him. Dennis said his knee really hurt and then he collapsed When Dennis woke up he was in the ambulance and then Dennis got hurt badly and the people in the ambulance couldn’t help Dennis so they had to take his knee of.
Since Dennis Oehler got his leg taken off he entered the Paralympics the Paralympics is the olympics for people who have dissabilities. Dennis was amazed of what people with disabilites do so he tried track and field. 1989 was the year he got the record for track and field for the Paralympics.
Colonial America Book
In fourth grade we do a Colonial America book. At computer lab we set up our book on are google slides. This is how we set it up first side was our title page. Second slide is the table of contents. Third slide chapter 1 All About Colonial Life. Fourth slide blank. Fifth slide chapter 2, my chapter two was All About what Crimes and Punishments in colonial times were like. Sixth slide was blank. The seventh slide was chapter three either journal entry or letter I chose journal entry. The eighth slide was blank. The ninth slide was an essay. The tenth slide was a glossary and the last slide was a bibliography. Before we do any of the research we have to choose a topic. The way how you do this is you get an index card and you write your top 3 choices, and before we did all of that we got a piece of paper and divided in into 4 parts one was daily life, one was trades which means jobs, one was slavery, and the last one was government. We wrote topics for each of the parts that it fits into so it was easier to choose. I got crimes and punishments which was in government. Then we researched for our chapters one and two. We had books, articles, and websites to research on. The research part was not that hard. It was only hard when we still had a lot of research time left and we checked out every book, article, and website that had to do with our topic. We only had to research chapter one and two because those were the only informational chapters. After we researched our chapter one and two we organized our facts on indects cards. After we organized our chapter one and two on are indects cards we wrote what we had on the indects cards on our notepad. After we wrote our first drafts of our chapter 1 and 2 on our note pad we started typing them on our google doc. Our chapter three which was a journal entry or a letter I chose a journal entry I think chapter 3 was the hardest chapter. I had to pretend I was the fictional person that I was writing about. The last chapter was an essay, we have done so many essays in the past so it was fairly easy. After we finished our first drafts on our chapters 3 and 4 I typed them in my google doc. After I finished my google doc I started gathering pictures which was easy. I had about 5 pictures. After I finished gathering all of my pictures I copied my writing from my google docs into my google slides I first copied my chapter 1 in my google slides and then chapter 2 and then chapter 3 and last chapter 4. Then I did my glossary, I had a few words in my glossary. Then I put my pictures in the blank slides so the blanks slides would be useful and I put captions for the pictures. Then I read my book over and I found mistakes. And then someone read my book to find mistakes and I read their book to find mistakes too. Then I did not have any mistakes. What I learned about myself as a reader writer and researcher is that I am pretty good at all of them. If I could make anything different in this project I would make my subtopics for chapter 2 better
