What stood out about our second rocket launch is it went SO HIGH! Also what stood out is that the nose cone was tilted again. What stood out about the classes launch is that all of the launches went so much higher than the first launch. My job for the 2nd rocket launch was pumper. I didn’t really like this job because it was boring. Personally I think it is the worst job. This time the colominating was fun because I got to clonominate a groups rocket that went really high. I think this launch was a lot higher than the first launch but when we graphed it we only got 3 feet higher on our second launch.

Our rocket went 36.5 meters and 121 feet. For our next rocket we are going to change our nose cone to a lot taller. We are going to keep the body, and fins the same because we can only change one thing. We are changing the nose cone because the group that won had a taller nose cone.

During the launch we were speaking nicely. We were not screaming and saying “you messed it up”, why did you do that.” Because we spoke respectively nothing got messed up and our rocket went really high. Our goal for the next rocket launch is to get 150 feet or higher. I really liked rocket launch 2.

Rocketry Blog Post #3

When we first started discussing what we what would change, we initially wanted to change so many things, for example the body, fins, and the nose cone. But then my teacher said to my group that we could only change one thing. “Ok” I say disappointed. I wanted to change more than one thing. We discussed that we wanted to change the fat and stubby fin to a skinny and tall fin which would weigh less. In my first blog post, I wrote about how important it is to have a low weight for a rocket.

When we started building rocket 2, since we already knew what to do from rocket 1 we started off really well. First we took the skinny tube and rolled the paper around it. Then we took the fin template and did a skinny and tall fin. Then we got our nose and made it straight this time. We worked really well together. I was praying that our rocket would win.

What went well was building our rocket. Our communication also helped. Communication is really important because if you don’t talk then you can’t make suggestions. We thought everything was perfect this time. The body was perfect, the fins were perfect, and the nose cone was perfect.

Similar to the first rocket building, our group also handled the disagreements really well this time because we compromised. This worked because instead of arguing and screaming at each other we compromised and stayed calm. I have high hopes for the next rocket launch.

What stood out about our launch is that it swerved side to side the whole way up and every other group their rocket went straight up. This happened because our nose cone was completely tilted. I knew this was a problem but my group did not listen to me. My job for the 1st rocket launch was countdown master. I really this job because I love screaming. I was also really nervous because as soon as I said release I was thinking is our rocket going to succeed or fail. As soon as I said release I looked up and saw our rocket and go so high but it was swerving back and forth. I knew it was a problem but I did not care because it went so high. When I klonominated it was a bad experience because I klonominated the group got 5 meters. I hope for launch 2 I klonominate a groups rocket that goes really high.

I thought our rocket was one of the best but when we converted it to feet we realized we got 4th and fell short of the winner by 74 feet. I was upset but it made me determined to win the next launch. Because the group that won had skinny and tall fins we decided we wanted to change our fins to that. Originally we had stubby and fat fins. We thought this was a really good idea because if it is taller and skinnier it adds less weight.

During the launch we spoke really respectively. We were not screaming at eachother we were not saying bad things about each other. When we were graphing we were surprised it only went 118 feet. We were sad we only got 4th but we knew for the next launch we would get at least 120. Well that is our goal. The graphing was really fun. Overall rocket launch 1 was really fun.

Maglev final blog post

Our first design was a really bad fail because on our track was 1 north strip magnet and 3 south disk magnets across the track but we did not think about what would happen when train was going to levitate above the track. But then we realized that the disk magnets are really bad. On our train we put 2 south disk magnets but to mention again disk magnets are not good and disk magnets are to heavy so it was not levitating so high and that is not we want because then it won’t get it across the track which is what we want to accomplish. The other thing that happened was that trains two south disk magnets attracted to the 1 strip magnet on the track.

We had multiple problems but our biggest problem was we had way to much tape train and it was tipping over so it was not levitating or floating to the other side this matters because we were not accomplishing our goal. Some of our other problems were the disk magnets were not working also our track was not what it was supposed to be at the beginning.

Our final design worked because our track was what it was supposed to be and our train levitated above the track and with a tiny push it levitated with 6 passengers safely across the track not tilting at all. Now our train had 2 strip magnets on the side of the train and 4 strip magnets stacked on top of each other on the sides.

During maglev I was excited because I wanted to see what it would be,happy because I will be an engineer for the first time in my life, and nervous because we had a lot of problems.

Our Controlled plants are really interesting because they keep on growing throughout each day. They are growing buds. Day 8, One of our plants is 20 leaves 10 buds and 11 cm.Day 9, One of are plants are 22 leaves 10 buds 15 cm. Day 10,one of are plants are the same as day 9. Day 11,one of are plants are the same as day 9,10. Day 12,same as day 9,10,11. Day 12,one of are plants are 26 leaves 10 buds 16 cm. Day 13,one of are plants are 26 leaves 6 buds 19 cm. Day 14,one of are plants are 22 leaves 13 buds 13 cm. Day 15,one of are plants are 22 leaves 5 buds 20 cm.

Our Manipulated plants are really interesting because they keep on growing throughout each day. They are growing buds. Day 8,one of are plants are 25 leaves 6 buds 13 ½ cm. Day 9,one of are plants are 23 leaves 10 buds 16 cm. Day 10,one of are plants are plants are 16 leaves 6 buds 14 cm. Day 11,one of are plants are 18 leaves 8 buds 12 cm. Science blog post #3

When we started pollinating our flowers we used a Q-tip. We used the Q-tip by going around to other plants touching the pistil and coming back to our plant and then touching our pistil. In a few days something started to happen. The thing that happened was our plants started growing seed pods. They look so cool.

For our controlled they are growing really tall. Day 14, one of are plants are 25 leaves 6 buds 19 cm. Day 15, one of are plants are 22 leaves 13 buds 20 cm. Day 16, one of are plants are 21 leaves 7 buds 20 cm. Day 17, same as yesterday. For our manipulated. Day 14, one of are plants are 10 leaves 6 buds 14 cm. Day 15, one of are plants are 16 leaves 4 buds 14 cm. Day 16, one of are plants are 8 leaves 5 buds 14 cm. Day 17, one of are plants are 15 leaves 0 buds 13 cm.

I think our plants seed pods in a few days will look like beans.

Here are my seed pods

Plant Process

I thought the plant unit was going to be really hard but  it turned out it was really easy. This is how we made the plant.  We had a quad which is a foam square with four cells. We had two quads manipulated and controlled because at one point we were going to make one change for the manipulated and see if it grew. At first we needed to put the wick through the bottom of the quad so the plant could get water easily. Then we put a little bit of soil about a quarter of the way up then we put fertilizer. Then we put a little more soil. Then we put in the seeds. Then we put soil to the top of the cell. Then we watered it. I was really excited.

These are my plant observations…

Day 1 Manipulated nothing Controlled nothing

Day 2 Manipulated nothing Controlled nothing

Day 3 Our tallest plant in Manipulated is is in cell 2 with 8 leaves 2 and ½ cm tal our tallest plant in Controlled is green 11 leaves 6 cm

Day 4 Our tallest plant in Manipulated is green 11 leaves 6 cm. Our tallest plant in Controlled is green 13 leaves 6 cm

Day 5 Our tallest plant in manipulated is green 13 leaves 5 ½. Our tallest plant in controlled is green 16 leaves 7 cm

Day 6 Our tallest plant in manipulated is green 14 leaves 4 ½ cm. Our tallest plant in controlled is green 18 leaves 6

Technology is…

Technology is something made by humans to make life easier or that solves a problem.

My object is technology because it solves a problem.

My object an ice tray solved a problem by holding ice.

The ice tray made life easier by instead of holding ice you can put in the tray.

My object is made out of plastic, rough, blue, rigid, light ,hard, flat and rough.

Maglev blog post #2

We made it levitate high and with a push it did not go from one side of the track to the other because it was tipping over. In the middle of the track we placed a total of 4 disk magnets on the track and 2 disk magnets next to each other on each side. We put all of the disk magnets on the track north and and all the strip magnets on the train north so it would levitate.

What we did that failed today was we put way too much tape on the train and it was too heavy so it was not levitating as much and it was also tipping over and last but not least when we pushed it went nowhere. What we learned was to take the tape off so it was not as heavy. Also what we learned was if we took the tape off it would not tip over. What we changed is put more strip magnets on the track and put 4 disk magnets in the middle of the track so it would levitate really high. Since we took the tape off the vehicle was not tipping.

For our next design we are going to try to make it levitate smoothly and carefully to the other side of the track so we can put the passengers on and if it does work we will go into the improve phase. Also we going to try to make it levitate higher. I am really excited to see what it looks like at the end of maglev.
