For week nine’s technology blog post we were required to write a post about physical properties. We have been learning about physical properties for the past week and today we were assigned to watch a How It’s Made video of our choice and record the physical properties of the object. I chose skateboard wheels. If you don’t know How It’s Made is a show on the science channel and they also have a YouTube channel with many short videos.
Skateboard wheels have the physical property of mold-ability. I know this because when constructing each wheel, a computerized machine creates two metal molds that fit into each other. Then a worker will fill the molds with freshly mixed polyurethane liquid. The definition of a mold that we learned was a hollow container used to give shape to molten or hot liquid material when it cools and hardens which is what happens to these skateboard wheels.
Skateboard wheels also have tensile strength – how much you can pull it apart before it breaks.
Thanks for reading my post!
