American Revolution #1

I really like this unit on the American Revolution, but my favorite part to learn about is the Boston Tea Party. I like learning about why King George started taxing the colonists and that he started to tax them on something they loved. TEA. The colonists did not want to pay them and the king started sending over tax collector after tax collector. Until there were a lot of them. The colonists started torturing and being mean to the tax collectors. When the king started to tax tea, the colonists were furious and would not pay. They decided they could live without tea and threw tea overboard.

Final Wonder Reflections

This is the last in a series of reflections on the book “Wonder”

I learned from finishing the book “Wonder” that it doesn’t matter what someone (a lot) of people think about you. If they don’t like that you are you, then they are the ones that are (very) wrong. I think that the precept “When Given The Choice Between Being Right And Being Kind… Choose Kind,” I think this means that if you have a choice to be right about one thing or to be a kind person, not just do one kind thing, choose kind. But, the part that is kind of confusing is that, if you choose kind, you are right, so the kind option is right! So, the other option isn’t important to the precept at all. Because, if you pick the other one, you are the different one.

This is the 3rd in a series of posts about the book Wonder.

August is done with his first day of school. Now, it is halloween! August is very excited.

Why is halloween a positive thing for August?

I think halloween is a very positive thing because no one will see his face. Well, they might. But, they’ll think it’s just a costume.

Teatown Reflection

We went to Teatown, teatown is a nature preserve. It has 3 lakes and a lot of nature and animals!

My favorite part was the sandbox. The sandbox is a box of sand with an Xbox projector. It makes the sand look like the earth. We made mountains and made ponds at the top of the mountains.  We made it rain by waving our hands above it or using the cheat button. We made paths on the side of the mountain for the water to go down.

August has went to homeroom, english, and Lunch so far. In english class August learned what a precept is. A precept is a rule about a really important thing. Here is an example of a precept that I wrote “NEVER GIVE UP!”

In lunch, August was sitting alone, everybody was whispering about him. But then, a girl named Summer came over to the empty table. I feel good about her. She seems really nice and a little bit observant. She noticed the similarities in Summer and August’s name!

Read Aloud Reflection – Wonder – Week 1

This Read Aloud Reflection is the 1st in a series of post about the book Wonder

I feel good about what we read because I think August did really well at school. So far, he only went to one class, but he still did well. Julian is still being mean to August, but teachers don’t know it. He went to Homeroom.

I predict that Julian will keep being mean to August throughout the story

Welcome to 4th Grade!

My 4th grade year has begun! I really like 4th grade.

In 4th grade we have really hard math. In 3rd grade we had math, but i think it was easy.

Also, I get to be in band. I play the saxophone. I practice every day! My saxophone is very heavy.

My teacher is Mrs. Volpi.

We also have something called Dialogue Journals.  We write something we want to tell Mrs. Volpi and she reads it. She answers over the next week.

Plants Blog Post #3

Our manipulated and our controlled are both dead. The leaves were brown. It had no pods. It was drooping. Our manipulated is dead because of the sugar water. Our controlled is dead because of the water. We tried to bring our manipulated back to life before we threw it out. It didn’t work. We did the same thing with our controlled. That didn’t work either. The flowers were losing petals. The soil always stayed the same. Our manipulated died of the sugar water. Our controlled is dead because of the water. We tried to bring our manipulated back to life before we threw it out. It didn’t work. We did the same thing with our controlled. That didn’t work either.

We learned that photosynthesis is basically just making glucose. The leaves make glucose. They use water, air, and sunlight. Water+Air+Sunlight=Glucose.

We also learned that pollination is when an animal that pollinates flowers comes inside the flower to get nectar. It rubs the pollen from the inside of the flower on its body an when it comes to another flower, the pollen rubs off in the flower.

We also learned about the parts of a plants jobs. So, the pollinater rubs the pollen on the flower and the pollen goes down a tube called a pollen tube! The ovule holds the eggs which forms into a seed. And those are just some of the things we learned.

Plants all have some way to get out of the shade of the tree they were made on. It’s how they survive. They need to get out of the shade because if they stay in the shade, they won’t grow right. Because a plant needs sunlight and water. If they are in the shade they won’t get any sunlight. And the tree above them will get all the water. Also, if all the seeds the tree makes are right under it they will all fight over water, sunlight, and air. And plants do not like to share.

Plants

We are doing an experiment with plants. We are doing it on a controlled and a manipulated plant to see which will grow better. We added sugar to the water because trees eat a sugar called glucose. We grew tulips and they bloomed on May 31st. Tulips are yellow flowers. But I think the manipulated plant is starting to get sick. I don’t know but that is my hypothesis. I think it is starting to get sick because I know when the leaves get yellow (for some plants) it means the plant is sick. I don’t know about tulips but I think the plant is getting sick because of the sugar water because our controlled plant is getting regular water, sunlight, soil, and everything a normal plant needs and it is not getting sick, so I think it has to be the sugar water.
