Passion Project #2

Since my last blog post, I have been planning my next step out. I think that I have enough information to create my DIY exploding box, so I have done some research and created my instructions. I created my instructions based off of the Troom Troom video on youtube. I have also been thinking about one specific question, “How do incorporate my family tree into an exploding box?” Well to answer my question, I started by looking on google. I searched other peoples exploding box’s and found inspiration there. I will put different names and stories in each layer, and the further you look into the box, the further my ancestors go. I can’t wait to begin my box and will be starting very soon.

So far I have used these resources for my exploding box…

If you would like to create your own exploding box I would suggest that you start with youtube.

Passion Project #1

In class I have started a new project called a passion project. For the project you study something that you want to learn. The first step that I did was create a letter to my teacher explaining what I would like to study, and how i will present it. I chose to study my family tree, and present it by making an exploding box. An exploding box is a DIY greeting card box. When you take the lid off, the box falls flat, and their can be information, or even gifts inside. I will be naming many of my ancestors and stories about them and fun facts about them. Recently I’ve been doing interviews for part of my research. I have interviewed my mother, my father, my grandma’s, and my grandpa. When I interviewed my grandma, I learned that one of  her great grandmothers lived to be over 100 and that my family owned a whole chain of stores! I have also been researching what materials I will need to create my exploding box, along with how to make it, and the other day I finally went to get the materials which means that as soon as I am done with my research I can start making my exploding box. I have already tested how to make my exploding box so I am read to start creating my box soon! If you would like to hear more about my project, just stay updated with my blog, I will be posting about my project about four times a week.

This is what an exploding box looks like on the inside…

Passion Project Reflection 1

I am doing a Passion Project on cooking. The first part of the process was coming up with my idea. Whenever I get a chance to do something like this I would normally do it on something like singing, dancing, and things like that, but this time  I realized I needed something different that I could learn a lot about. It took me awhile to decide on what I would do it on, but I finally decided I would do it on cooking. I thought this part was fun and easy.

The next step of the process was developing my idea. First I made a web. My web was where I started to develop my thoughts. Next I had to narrow down my topic, but I just couldn’t so I kept my topic the way it was. I really thought I wasn’t doing it right, but when I went to school the next day my teacher said I was doing great.

The next step of the process was developing questions. At first I was having trouble doing this, but then I got the hang of it.

The next step of the process was research. This was really hard for me because I felt like I didn’t have things under control and that I wasn’t doing it right, but once again when I went to school the next day and showed it to my teacher she said I was doing even better than expected. During research I realized  that the reason I was having a hard time was because I had to big of a topic so I tried to narrow down my topic again. This time around I did narrow it down. I narrowed it down to cooking throughout generations and that made thing much easier.

I can’t wait until interviews and the final project. I’m sure that will be fun!

Passion Project – Initial Thoughts

In class were doing our 2nd Passion Project and we need to do it on a problem in our classroom. I think that I might try to solve the problem of disruptions in our classroom. I think that I have some really good ideas for that. One idea I have might be whoever calls out gets some sort of a consequence.

Another Idea I have is to try to solve the problem of how we don’t get a lot social studies or science. Maybe I will try to make a weekly schedule and try to fit every thing in at least two times a week. I could also try and shorten some other subjects. Maybe I could help make the schedule every day.

Sincerely, Sabrina
