In class we are reading HOME of The BRAVE. What we are talking about now is about Gol.
Gol is a cow, but Katherine Applegate (author of HOME of The BRAVE) also uses her as a symbol. How does Gol represent Kek’s past, present, and possibly his future?
Gol is a symbol of his past because it shows how he used to live with the cattle and it reminds him of his old life in Africa. Also it resembles his family because Gol means family. Also Gol is weary and sad and that is how Kek feels now. He also doesn’t have photos to see his mom, brother, dad and anybody else.
Gol represents his present because it gave him hope about his old life coming back. It also makes his life kind of come back and stay with him. It also shows that he wants to hold on to his old life.
Gol represents his future because he might be happier now that he can visit Gol. This is also a symbol of his future because he can always visit her and remind him of his old life. Kek is also starting over and so is Gol because Gol is starting over at the zoo and Kek is starting over in america.
