Tech Blog Post #6

As promised, I will tell you more about the flashlight. It was a great experience and I am so happy I’ve done it.

The whole class started off with a sketch of what they wanted it to look like, including length and width. In the sketch, we had to include all the PVC pipes and the pieces that I had chosen. The pieces that I chose had to fit in with each other like a puzzle. Next, once I was done with that, I started getting the pieces/ PVC pipes that looked like the ones that I drew out, the pipes came in all different sizes so I sawed the pipes to the measurement I had drawn in my sketch and made sure all the pieces fit together. As Mr. Calvert gave more demonstrations, the more I understood. We used a giant drill presto put different size holes in the PVC pipes. 1. A hole to put the switch trough. 2. Another hole to put the actual light through. Finally, the last and longest, hardest step. I got wires, cut them to the right measurements, and stripped the tops of them, then curling the stripped part of the wire. I attached then soldered them all. 1. One to the light, 2. Another one to the battery, 3. The last one to the switch. They’re all connected, now its time to put all of that inside the flashlight, putting it into the right place. It had turned on first try.
