Atoms

Atoms consist of the nucleus and the electrons. The nucleus is both the protons and neutrons. The nucleus is surrounded by the electrons. The nucleus is incredibly small. For instance, if the atom was the size of a full-sized football field, the nucleus would be the size of a marble.

You start with a ball the size of a grapefruit. This grapefruit is filled with atoms. In order to see the atoms within it, you must make the grapefruit the size of the Earth. Then, you can see the whole world filled with the atoms within the grapefruit. Each atom is the size of a blueberry. Although, you still can’t see the nucleus, so you enlarge one blueberry to the size of a full-sized football field. Then, the nucleus is the size of a marble.

Electrons are negative, protons are positive, and neutrons are neutral. The neutrons create a buffer that allows the electrons and neutrons to coexist. The neutrons allows the protons to exist. Without protons, atoms couldn’t exist. Without atoms, nothing could exist.

Tech Breakout

Yesterday in tech, we were tasked with opening a lock box with our group. We had a large group, so teamwork was vital. Everyone had to cooperate, contribute, and compromise. Whenever someone had an idea, you have to let them speak and test their theory.

There were many clues hidden throughout the tech room. We found several papers that allowed us to open some of the locks. There were three locks: A letter lock, a number lock, and a direction lock. One paper spoke about what was right and wrong, another spoke about the rules, and yet another paper that stated that safety was “first priority.” The last paper was a maze through the rules. These papers gave us the codes for the locks.

I think that the breakout was a lot of fun. I thought this for a lot of reasons.

  • We were permitted to work with our friends.
  • We could think out of the box and try out ideas without getting graded or pressured.
  • We don’t normally get to do breakouts, so it was a surprise.

I wish that we could do breakouts more often, for they are a sort of break from all of the hard work and assignments.

I am excited to start making projects, because we never got to do a class like tech in elementary school. Also, I love making stuff, so I think that tech will be a fun class. Unlike other classes and academics, we don’t have to do confusing worksheets to learn. We get to learn by doing hands – on projects and lessons. I am so excited to have tech as my quarterly (finally) and I can not wait to start our first project.
