3D Printing

The invention of 3D printing has changed the way we produce objects, from tool to toys, and even body parts. Some objects around my house that could be made with 3D printing technology are plates. You could use recycled plastic to make plates. From an environmental/sustainability perspective, 3D printing is good because it reduces the amount of waste and it reduces the amount of transportation it takes to ship it. Something that I could 3D print to solve a problem is that you could 3D print face shields for extra protection against COVID-19.

Timber Harvest

In the 1920’s, the way they cut down trees was by manually hitting it with an ax and hen running away when they thought it would fall. In the late 1940’s, someone would climb up the tree and attach pulleys and cables so they could pull it down. They climbed up by attaching a string around their waist and the trees so they could propel themselves up. We don’t do that anymore. Instead, we have machines to pull the trees down.

Building

To build something means to construct something with materials. It looks like a bunch of parts, that come together to make one structure. One time I built a bookshelf with my dad. I felt excited to see it all come together, but scared that something would go wrong. I enjoy building things because I like to see how it ends up. I like the thrill of being able to create things. It makes it different from the activities I do enjoy because one of my favorite activities is running, but when you build, mor work goes into it. You have to measure draw and cut.
