3rd Grade – History of Typography

3rd Graders,

When we are typing we are entering our text using a particular font, or style of writing. But fonts aren’t just fonts, they are “typography” or the art or technique of arranging type in order to make language visible.

Before computers there were typewriters and before that, handwriting. In order to make writing universally legible there needed to be typography.

  1. I learned that a long time ago that people had to write with hand. Calson is my favorite style. The style of the video is cool.

  2. That there us to be diffrent types of typography.I liked the pixel type.I think the style was really cool and awsome.I did like how it was animated.If I watched it last year I would think it is more awsome then this year.Yes something did stand out.

  3. I learned that there are many people who invented different types of fonts. I remember that there was Helvetica, Gill Sans, Modern, and Old Style. My favorite type is Gill Sans. I like the style of the video and I really liked the paper letters. Yes, I liked the way the video animated. No, I didn't see the video last year.

  4. I learned that there were many different kinds of writing.
    I remember Roman type and I think that kind is my favorite.
    I like the style because they made very cool designs and there were no people in the video.
    I like the way the video is and how it was animated.
    I didn't see the video last year so I don't know.

  5. I learned that there are a ton of fonts in the world. My favorite typography name was the Pixel font. It looks very cool. I thought that the person's hand was magic because it kinda spit out letters from the hand. I like the video a lot because the fonts are beautiful and the video was very creative. I liked the way the video was animated so it looked like it was magic. I did not watch this video last year but last year, I was not interested in typography because I thought it was pretty boring just staying in 1 font because last year, I didn't know how to change the font so I just stayed in 1 font but when I watched this video, it got me interested in typography.

  6. I learned that a lot of people invented different styles of typing. I remember the one was Old Style, another one was Gill Sans, and Modern. My favorite one is Gill Sans.
    I think that the style of the video was nice. I do like the way the video looked and was animated. I don't think the way I liked it would of changed much.Nothing new standed out to me.

  7. I learned that the computer changed all of the type ways and you can create your own type style. One of the type styles are Modern. My favorite part was that it said you could could create your own style. I think it was pretty cool that the hands moved a lot and typed and lots of other ways to. I liked the way because that guy had to learn a lot about typography. Well, i haven't seen this video last year. Something new did stand out to me that there were lots of styles to type.

  8. That there are different types of typography from different people. My favirite tipe is itacs. I think my favirite style of the video is its awesome. I loved it beacuase its so cool. No I have not.

  9. I learned that there are more than 10 types of typography. I remember the slanted type and old style. My favorite was the slanted one. I think the style of the video was fast and cool.I do like the way the video looked and was animate. I thought it was a little to fast for you to understand. But over all I liked the video.

  10. I remember about the modern type style. My favorite was the modern style. I think that the video was pretty interesting because of all the type that where made. I thought that the video was pretty cool. I like the roman type it was pretty interesting.I think the video looked good and was animated good.I did not see this video last year.

  11. I learned that all types of letters have a name and that any time you want you can make your own kind of letters. The names that I remember are Modern,Black letter,Italics,pixel,gill sans and Futura. But I like modern the best. I think the video was good because he showed you who made it,what the name is and what it looks like. I like how it looked when he grouped the letters at the end and the set up. I did not see the video last year,but some of the words like modern I herd before so it stood out to me.

  13. I learned that people from all over the world made different types of typography. My favorite type of typography is Helvetica. I thought that the video was interesting because I got to learn about who made the different types of typography and what they were called. I liked that the letters were paper,I thought that looked cool. I think if I saw the video last year I wouldn't have understood it as much so I think I would have had some other thoughts.
