Recording an interview is alway a good idea. It allows you to
- review the interview at a later date, and as often as you’d like
- focus on listening in the moment instead of taking notes
- you can take notes on the recording later
- allows you to review the feelings, inflection, and tone in the voice of the interview subject
But, as with anything involving someone else, always ask permission to record first. Some people may not want the interview recorded, others may be ok with the interview recorded but don’t want their voice/video in your final project, others may be ok with you using the interview in any way you see fit.
Regardless, always ask permission, and always respect the wishes of the interview subject.
