Capstone blog post #4

We finished our blog posts. For mine to present it, I had to screen record the slideshow while talking to the screen recording. It took a lot of tries but in the end it got better. Once it was finished I posted on YouTube and presented it to my class.

Here is the link to my presentation: https://youtu.be/PnYEtoHGxl4

I can’t believe capstone and the year flew by so fast. I am so excited to go to a new school but sad to leave Heathcote. But I am looking forward to the drive through graduation

Capstone blog post #3

For my Capstone project, I chose to do a slideshow. The slideshow explains all the research I’ve done over the past month on Hamilton.

In order to make this presentation, I had to first make a script template. This basically said what would be saying during the presentation and how long each slide was going to take. After the script template was done, we had to start making the real slideshow. This meant putting our pictures on the slide and fixing the formatting. Then, I had to memorize most of my script.

Some challenges that I faced making the slideshow and script was making sure what I said made sense and making sure my slides were clean and consistent. Something that I thought was a great part of the process includes choosing the pictures and making them interesting and connected to the script and my voiceover. Memorizing my script really challenged me, but it wasn’t too hard.

I’m definitely sad this is the last project we’re going to do in fifth grade. I think this was a great experience, and we all worked really hard to get our final projects to where they are now.

Capestone #2

I finished my Capstone interview. For my interview, I interviewed Aisha Davis. She is a very successful producer and helped answer a lot of my questions I had about the Broadway. These were my questions:

  • What are some productions you have been involved in?
  • Have you seen The Broadway Hamilton?
  • What has being involved in entertainment contributed to watching shows?
  • What do you think makes it special?
  • Do you like Lin Manuel Miranda as an entertainer and why?
  • Can you explain how you think Hamilton is so successful?
  • What makes people want to watch Hamilton?
  • What would you change about Hamilton?
  • Is Hamilton The most successful play?
  • Do you think that the success rate is higher because it is made by Lin Manuel Miranda?

Overall, she was very helpful and will definitely help me in the process of making the presentation.

Capstone blog post #1

In class, we have started our Capstone unit.  A Capstone involves choosing a topic to study and coming up with a main inquiry question to answer.  The first thing we had to do for this unit was brainstorm topic ideas. At first, I didn’t know what to do but then I decided to do the Broadway show, Hamilton. This is a topic that I know a lot about and that interests me. Once I found out what my topic was I had to find out what my main question was.  After a Zoom call with my teacher, I decided to make my question, ”What are the key elements that make Hamilton successful?”  I decided to pick this question because it focused on all of the things that I want to learn about. After we found out what the main question was going to be, I had to make my sub-questions.  Sub questions are questions that help me figure out the answer to my main question. Since we have finished all of these steps the next thing we have to do is study our sub-questions and research more on this topic.

Doing this project has made me learn about myself as a learner by showing that I can learn a lot more about a topic if I am asking a question and looking for an answer, instead of just looking for facts about the topic all around.

martin luther king jr

Martin Luther King was born on January 15, 1929. Dr. King made a lot of speeches about segregation and racist remarks.

One of his most famous speeches was “I Have a Dream” His speech took place in 1963 at the March on Washington protest. This speech is one of the most famous speeches in history. Martin was a very strong influencer and changed the way people thought about segregation.

Martin luther king not only wanted his generation to be equal but also everyone in the future to this is shown when in his speech he says “I have a dream that my four little chi1dren will one day live in a nation \Where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character”

Altough he wanted all blacks to be treated equally, still not everyone ecepts them today and there still a lot of racists people and remarks.

Rocketry #1

This week we have been doing rocketry in class. So far we have made inspiration boards our rocket design.

When doing our inspiration board we had to do a lot of work. We look up any helpful quotes including the laws of newton and the famous quote of Neil Armstrong “ This is one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”. Next we did 2 rocket diagrams. The first one of a real rocket, The second one of a paper rocket. The only real difference is that the real rocket has an engine and the paper rocket uses a pump to produce air pressure to make it go through the pipe  to blast it off.

Once we finished the inspiration board we made a rocket design. The rocket design included four fins, and the nose cone. We did this on google drawing and used the different shapes provided to make our rocket design. Then we had to build.

When we were building we had to make the body, nose cone and fins we put this together with hot glue and electrical tape. Our team didn’t work together as good as I wanted to but in the end our group got it together and made the best rocket we could. Then we prepped for the launch.
