Capstone #1: Choosing A Topic

After a lot of thought leading up to the deadline to choose a topic, I finally chose “Designing Sneakers”. I’ll give you a rundown of my previous options: Greek Mythology, Koenigsegg cars, McLaren cars, shoes, sneakers, and finally designing sneakers. To try and help figure out what topic we were going to choose, Mrs. Edwards gave us some worksheets. The first worksheet was many questions about topics that were kind of related to Capstone. The second one was a “Curriculum Wheel”. I started to answer that with shoes. But at night, I thought about it and changed it to sneakers. Although, in the morning I decided that “sneakers” was too vast of a subject, so I decided on “Designing Sneakers”.

If you’ve read some of my other blog posts, there is always SOMETHING that goes wrong.

Of course, at around 1:30, I asked Ms. Edwards if she approved of my main inquiry question. She said,”Your topic is too broad.” We had a long discussion about it and she said that I should do my Capstone on Under Armour Footwear. I said okay and got to work researching. That did not work out either. I just had to ask my teacher if I could go back to “Designing Sneakers” but the line to utter a single 10-word question was about 13 people. Some of the people in the middle of the line I recognized have been there for at LEAST 30 minutes. Luckily, we ended Capstone time and she said she and I would discuss it. Turns out I was going to talk to our aid, Ms. Gleaves for help. She said I could do my original plan, but we needed to tweak my inquiry question,”How are sneakers designed and if they are different types, how are they designed differently.” Even though we were out of ticks from the Clockman, she said we could work on it tomorrow because the question wasn’t due until next Tuesday, 5/10. What other fiascos and problems will Michael Marks have and how will he solve them? I’ll keep you “posted”.

  1. I enjoyed reading your detailed and humorous post about how you narrowed down your topic, Michael. You did a great job recounting the process!
